The whole point of reconstruction techniques is to save the resources of rendering native pixels and it's supposedly being added to the next 2 consoles on a native hardware level (Switch 2, PS5P)

So .. no ?

The best part of this video is is when Richard says on the finalized hardware specs by Microsoft and Sony:

"....I think it's slightly disappointing/unfortunate that they kind of happened before the need for machine learning upscaling kind of became evident"

So... PS5 PRO needed? Lol.

Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Looks like we're at acceptance.

The way people thoroughly dismiss reconstruction and frame gen techniques kinda bugs me.

They exist and are nearly indistinguishable to a person who's actually playing the game (not pixel peeping). Just use them.

Was both a fail from both Microsoft and Sony to not even consider AI for PS5 and Series X after the past cb render sucess.

Video game was all about optimization and using AI to upscale is one of the best way to save resource, not to mention Ray Tracing on video game was a total disaster. No AMD hardware was trully ready for this and the loss of performance using RT leave consumers almost 100% of the time to use 'performance mode'.

Agreed on the first point, somewhat disagreed on the second point. They exist for sure, but as to how indistinguishable they are, even to someone who isn't actively trying to rub one out for the pixels, really depends on the implementation/game. FSR 1 looks objectively terrible IMHO, FSR 2 is an improvement for sure but still can have obvious issues. Something like Forbidden West looked really nasty in motion in PS5 performance mode at launch (to Guerrilla's credit though, they patched that later on).

But just to be clear, reconstruction/frame generation is great as a concept. Trying to reach native resolutions well above 1080p is usually wasting resources that would be better utilized elsewhere.

I noticed that too - they had mixed opinions about the Pro earlier in the year, most of it pessimistic and most of it baseless in my opinion but seems like they're now realising how good it can be, like the rest of us already did a while ago.

The artifacts and input lag are very noticeable.

They've struggled and failed to not look foolishl and hypocritical throughout the entire PS5 Pro rumor cycle. With the first rumors, Richard erroneously assumed they would again double CUs a la PS4 Pro and said he wasn't excited because "... there isn't any references to machine learning"

When they learned PS5 Pro would have proprietary ML with 300 TOPS of AI performance, somehow he maintained his "it's not a gamechanger" sentiments. Oliver is the only one who hasn't been compromised, which makes sense given his short tenure.

How the turntables turn. 🤔

Now they need Cerny. 🫠

And more than that, they need Cerny AND a live event where Cerny in person explains them shit. 😆😆😆

Reads out to me a bit like 'pls Sony throw us some 🥜 🥜 🥜 ' 🙏🏻🥺

What do you expect their coverage of the Pro will be? I'm expecting 3 scenarios:

- MS forks anti-marketing cash, they cast doubt on everything Mark Cerny says, like they did with 'Road to PS5', only to just recently do a 180 and practically parrot said 'Road to' and tell us 'Mark Cerny was right'. Dunno about this, Xbox just did a facelift to try to stay not as ded and dunno the relevancy of trying to market something that's clearly a 'pls don't forget me' in the face of the PS5 Pro release, but then, DF have always been their 'unbiased' technical marketing Trojan Horse for as long as they have existed and last time, while Cerny's presentation was, for them, full of maybes and we'll sees and doubts, being flown to Xbox HQ for a unboxing, taking apart and Richard LeadBellend being gifted a bespoke enclosure with a transformative Xbox Series X naked die by none other than Ronald McDonald was full of excitement and truths. Is Rich Ledbet still the only one known to have received such trinket? 😬

I don't know, they're still royalty among Xbox marketers, so in the light of recent rumours that MS has cut a lot of marketing for Xbox I can see them dropping waves of zealots, but not DF, so we'll see.

-Just plain run with what Mark Cerny said. Just that, no money exchange from any camp.

-Praising and simping like fuck anything Mark Cerny said a la 'Preach, Brother Cerny!!'. Then you know for sure it was Sony this time who forked the cash.

So far ML tech is used only for upscaling/reconstruction so DLSS/XeSS. At this point it's not really important for anything else.

It's a gamechanger because it will result in much better IQ but it's not when it comes to graphics in general (now, in the future it might be different).

Hilarious how they say gamers are wrong to want 60 fps Avowed on XSX but also say that PS5 Pro is going to have a hard time finding an audience or marketing strategy... They flat out say that 30 fps is fine... whereas they'll nitpick basically anything Sony does.

How these guys have any credibility left is beyond me.

Maybe for PC, but PS5 players have already been treated with ML texture upsampling in GoW Ragnarok and muscle deformation in Spider-Man 2. If anyone's in denial they won't continue to push in other areas outside of output resolution when they have access to order of magnitude greater AI performance via PS5 Pro then they should apply to DF. They'd fit right in.

I hope it will be expanded in the future but I doubt it will be this gen when regular PS5 (and series S in general) holds everything back, they can't make game that require ML hardware. Funnily enough Switch 2 will be more advanced than 2020 consoles in this regard (tensor cores).

All this stuff you mentioned was running on regular PS5 gpu in software, Sony devs aren't pushing tech this gen like they used to (so far). No one would know about this by looking at games if developers didn't point this out - we have Spider-Man 1.5 and God of War 1.1 when it comes to graphics. Only GG is delivering.

It will likely be extremely positive, like 95% of the reviews that DF does regarding Sony hardware and exclusive software.

Nonsense, myself and others were VERY impressed by GoW Ragnarok textures. You will see in a few weeks...

Well, if your PC is powerful enough...

Hahaha, this game has good art but from tech perspective it's just PS4 title, horizon was as well but difference between PS4 and PS4 version was much bigger.

I didn't saw anything special about Ragnarok textures when playing PS5 version. There are games with much better texture quality.

If they make the PS5PRO any taller it will surpass the Lenovo Legion I bought last year. I don't think I can handle any more Tallness in my electronic equipment without ditching my entertainment system completely.
