bad gameplay lol
Speaking of Alex Kingston, she's going to be on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson this Thursday, January 6th. Also on that episode, they're going to air the Doctor Who Cold Open dance number, having recently gotten the rights to use the song.

The doctor is getting married to his own daughter!

how is primeval? never watched it - family friendly for a 9-year-old boy?

Oh and for Dr. Who, can we have one season where a 'recurring portent of doom' isn't rammed down our throat every episode? Bad wolf, cracks in time blah blah. How about something less subtle than a sledgehammer. Bad things are coming, we get it. Actually not really - they are never really much worse than whatever is happening that week, so its just a distraction. The season will end on a cliffhanger, we know.

family friendly yes! but I'm not sure what's right for kids in the way of being scared or dinosaurs charging at some one! I don't remember anything gruesome in it really

...did you just ask if a 9-year old boy would enjoy a show about dinosaurs?

Seriously though, it's a family show, but if you're worried about him being scared it's pretty much on the same level as Jurrassic park (which I loved when I was about 9) so it really depends on the kid.

Just caught on that "Silence Will Fall" is in the last line of the song....

I watched the Xmas special last night with friends and was listening for this.

When I didn't hear it, I went looking up the lyrics...

When you're alone, silence is all you see,
When you're alone, silence is all you'll be.
Give me your heart to come to me.

When you are here, music is all around.
When you are near, music is all around.
Open your eyes, don't make a sound.

Meet in the shadow, meet in the shadow.
Meet in the light of your bright shadow.

Meet in the shadow, meet in the shadow.
Meet in the light of your bright shadow.

I would still say it is chock-fucking-full of hints for S6, though.

Aside from the obvious "silence" references, there is the pretty scary "open your eyes don't make a sound."

Additionally, the "shadow" references seem like they could be references to beardy doctor.

Chew on this - Abby's song will obviously tie in to the season, since it wasn't a Christmassy song. The Doctor used the TARDIS to boost the signal through his screwdriver - what if that also sent her song somewhere else?

What if the Doctor created the silence?

I also think the "nobody important" line meant more than just this one episode.

Like I said, food for thought.

I guess with two doctors, it's possible for River to kill one, getting her sent to Stormcage... not sure how the timey-wimey works on that, though.

It's going to be insane, whatever happens.

I'll venture to say that not only will Abby's song play into S6, but I'd say we'll also see Abby herself again before the series is over. There has to be a good reason they didn't show her dying on-screen in the special.

Because it'd be kind of a downer to end a Christmas special with someone dying?

Craig Ferguson finally aired the Doctor Who cold open last night. He also had Alex Kingston as his guest, and it was a great interview. I haven't found clips of the interview online yet.

Another point against Voyage of the Damned!

Well, also there's a very big difference between "She gave her life heroically to save the lives of The Doctor and six billion people she's never even met - now that's the spirit of Christmas and love!" and "She died of a terminal disease mere days after meeting the love of her life." That's why they didn't show it on screen, I think.

I really need to watch more Ferguson. Wish my affiliate didn't bump him back a half hour.
It is funny where I live. The main CBS affiliate, which is channel 3, bumps him back a half hour because of Entertainment Tonight. But the substation, 3.2, plays him at the normal time. It is in SD, but we don't have to wait to watch him. And if we miss the first half, we just tune into the HD station 3.1 and watch it then.

I believe Craig also has the full episode posted to YouTube, legally, the next morning. I think his account is "TVsCraigFerguson" or maybe the same thing with an "ITs" in front.

So Torchwood: The New World is now called Torchwood: Miracle Days (Basic plot details inside)

At TCA press tour, Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies just spilled that the international version of the show is getting a new title, and revealed the show’s plot.

The storyline is genius. Really.

First, the title. Gone is Torchwood: The New World. Now it’s Torchwood: Miracle Day.

I know. Sort of like the first time you heard “The Phantom Menace,” isn’t it?

But wait ’til you hear what it’s about…

“The premise is a miracle happens in the world,” Davies says. “One day, on Earth, no one dies. The next day, no one dies. The day after that, no one dies. The [people who are] dying, keep dying … but don’t actually die. The possibility of death ceases to exist. Which is great for some people. But it’s an instant overnight population boom. The earth relies on people dying … What is society going to do now? Some of the answers are beautiful and brave. Some of the reactions are terrifying.”
Naturally, the Torchwood team is called in to try and tackle this very unusual problem (btw, if you haven’t seen Children of Earth yet, rent it ASAP). The series will air on Starz in July.

What’s your take on the plot?

The idea sounds pretty damn awesome, and I loved Children of Earth, so I look forward to see if Torchwood can improve any further. Apparently, it starts on July the 1st in the UK and the US.

It's basically the plot of Marvel's
Chaos War
but I wouldn't be surprised if they handle it way better.

Yep, sounds epic enough for RTD.

Sounds good. I enjoyed Children of Earth enough, but shoehorning in Jack's Grandson who have never been introduced or mentioned just ruined the emotional pull they tried to get on the ending. It felt so forced that it was just stupid.

Your name is in the OP. Not letter for letter, but still. That's top notch information right there.
I see it pop up now and then. It originates from watching Lost In Translation with subtitles on to see if there is a hint as to what is said. All I got was my screen name, so I suppose it served more of a purpose than I imagined. I do tend to spell it correctly elsewhere, but Xbox Live have a characer limit and I used my gamertag spelling here, given that it's a gaming forum.

The one good bit about Love & Monsters was the callback to Baker's scarf. Also, was it just me or was Eleven wearing a Baker-esque scarf for a few seconds during the Christmas special?

So Moffat is moving the Mark Gatiss story (big headed dolls from the trailer) from the spring season (ep4) into the second half of the season, due in the Autumn.

The empty slot will now be filled by an episode written by Steve Thompson. Although new to Doctor Who, Thompson is an established writer who is best known for his work with Moffat as the author of the second Sherlock episode, The Blind Banker. He won the Arts Council's Meyer-Whitworth Award for new writing for his first play, Damages, in 2004.

Thompson's script will run as the third episode in the series, with the long awaited Neil Gaiman script moving into position four.

Moffat told the magazine the changes are purely to balance out the look of the series and to combat worries in the production team that there was "not enough outside" in the first half of the series.

As the Gattis episode has already been filmed it would seem to suggest that Rory and Amy both survive the mid-season cliff hanger.

Why does everyone love the last 2 Doctors the way that they do, when we all damn well know that:

Was the best of the bunch.

More Tom Baker please!
I'm am very, very, very conflicted over which is the better Doctor.

The current Doctor, Matt Smith, is possibly the best. His mannerisms and timing are incredible. However, Tom Baker is still the iconic Doctor. David Tennant brought a manic intensity to the role, and did it great justice, but he was a bit campy and suffered from bad writing and direction. Christopher Eccelston played an excellent Doctor, too, in a genuine way I have a hard time describing. It was a shame he only lasted one season.

Those four are the best of the bunch. But, which is the best out of them is something I cannot decide on.

(For the record, I grew up watching Doctor Who on TVO in the '80s, so I'm quite familiar with Tom Baker and his crappy successors. Seriously, what the fuck is this shit?)

no, just blame him for his awful acting

I hear that he's quite enjoyable in the audio plays, actually. I didn't particularly care for his episodes, but then I realize that McCoy seemed equally terrible in character at the start, but after they changed his tone and direction, I absolutely loved him. Is it not possible that Colin was told to play the character in an over the top, hammy, jerkwad fashion? The character was certainly explicitly written to be unlikeable in his first episode (remember: "I'm the Doctor, whether you like it or not!").
