I can't believe there are people that actually think this.

Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone, The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang, and The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon are all easily better than all of the other episodes that Moffat has written save perhaps Blink, imo.

The Wedding of River Song has been his only real blip in 6 years of writing, and even that was competent and enjoyable, despite its shortcomings.

Pandorica Opens and Impossible Astronaut I will give you, those are four of my favorite episodes of the new series, but Time of Angels just did not do anything for me.

I started watching Doctor Who about a month ago after seeing so much about it in various GAF threads along with other sites. Really enjoyed what I saw (started off with series 5, will likely go back to 2005 series) and after viewing the Van Gogh episode, I figured my wife would enjoy it as well.

So I got us Netflix streaming and started re-watching all the episodes with her again. And minus the weeping angels creeping her out, she's really loved the show as well. We're now about half way through series 6.

Trying not to spoiler myself, so I've only skimmed some of this page and felt safe. The River Song reveal blew our minds, but by and large, I see what people are saying about series 6 being convoluted.

Hopefully some more of our questions will be answered by the end. Unfortunately, my cable provider only offers BBC America as part of a 'variety package' and even if I subscribed to that, it's not even in HD. Will probably have to stick to Netflix viewing.

Love the show though, it's quite fun.

I like that Eleven is getting a new costume, keeps things fresh - especially since there was a gimmicky run in reference to clothes across the Pond era.

I wonder if this will be him sort of 'growing up'? Not 'not silly' just a bit less so.

Clara having a bag with her is interesting. Not sure why, but still different/not seen before.

I don't suppose there's a chance we'll ever see Jenny again?
Didn't Moffat ask RTD to have to regenerate at the end of that episode? If that's the case I would be surprised if we didn't see her in some form at some point before the end of his run.

Yeah, I'm surprised they haven't brought back a character from 1964.

Susan is not exactly a hard character to describe, and they did bring back a character from 1975. I'm not surprised that they haven't brought back Susan, but I don't think it would be that hard to describe who she is for new viewers, and the episodes with Susan in them were among the most viewed in the history of the show, so it's not like she's an obscure character.

I think bringing Susan or Ian back for the 50th anniversary would make a lot of sense. It would be nice to have someone from the very beginning of the show involved in the anniversary.

This fucking show... I just watched The dalek invasion of the earth... The doctors Speech to susan. Made me cry, thats not right. You just think about how many times hes had to say goodbye and then the fact that this is the first.

and then i watched this video

http://youtu.be/d941hp6VKgw

and cried again. a show should not make me this emotional.

One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Goodbye Susan. Goodbye my dear.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
So is that canon or not?

I don't know anymore. It's rather difficult to declare what's canon and what's not. From what I can understand, non-canon = dumb shit 96% of the fanbase hates. Such as the half-human Eighth Doctor, or Dimensions in Time.

Great fan video!

Let's all rank all the Doctors we've watched.

I've only watched the Bakers and the modern era, so:

Tennant > Smith > Tom Baker > Eccleston > 2nd Baker

I know I'm probably alone haha

So is that canon or not?

Generally speaking for all televised works of geek-dom (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, etc), nothing is canon unless it has been filmed and broadcast. That means video games, short stories, novels, and comic books are not canon except in the rare instance that the original work's authors or producers specifically say that it is canon.

As an example, all the Star Wars novels and comics and games do not qualify as canon (except for a couple rare instances). And even then there's a couple filmed projects that have been expunged from the canon (Star Wars Christmas Special and probably the Ewok movies).

The Doctor Who timeline has been completely re-written so many times that it doesn't really matter what is and isn't canon. Though I'd hardly expect Matt Smith to show up next season talking about the rollicking good times he had with Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise.

For me its Eccleston > Tenannt > Hartnell > Smith

Not to say i dislike Smith, i just love everyone of the others more.

Let's all rank all the Doctors we've watched.

By no means a definitive listing, but off the top of my head it'd probably be something like:

Baker
Smith
Ten-Inch
Pimpwee
Baker II
Hartnell
McCoy
Eccles
The Trout
McGann
Davison

I haven't really seen enough Two and Five to properly judge though, which is why they're down the bottom with Eight (who I also need to check out some more via the audio dramas).

So my sister made quite the discovery today. She saw one of our local Antique/Gold Buyer stores. She saw a sign for baseball cards and thought maybe there'd be Marvel/Comic Book cards (a few months ago she found a binder full of Marvel trading cards at another local Antique Store)

And well apparently this place is a treasure trove of old comics. She actually found a vintage X-Men 21 (from June 1966!)

She also made out with these (and another, newer X-Men comic) all for $10

and before you ask, no these didn't have any kind of protective sheets, these were as is.

Star Trek is a TV series in Doctor Who (for example Rose mentioned Spock in the first season, Craig talking about Star Trek transporters in the last season). Of course it's not canon.

It sounds kind of silly, but technically the existence of The Land of Fiction introduced in 'The Mind Robber' has the potential to make anything like this canon.

I don't know if I can pick between Troughton, Smith and Davison
Then Sylvester and Tom Baker
Tennant
McGann
Eccleston
Hartnell
Pertwee
Colin Baker

The Trought (not so underrated then :p)
McCoy
Smith
McGann
Tennant
Tom Baker
Eccleston
Colin Baker
Davidson
Hartnell
Pertwee

Smith I think would come number 1 if this were 'best eras' sort of thing as he by far has my favourite TARDIS team; thought McCoy/Ace are very close.

Pertwee I just really dislike as The Doctor.

God tier:
T.Baker
Smith
Troughton: definitely underrated, i think people over look his era because of the black and white, and so much is missing. Some of his best is the best Who ever.
Eccleston: only one series, but a great one. great actor, best regeneration story.

Good:
Tennant: fell off over the years for me due to some awful RTD episodes, re-gen was awful.
Pertwee: Not a big fan of his era.
Davison
Hartnell: hampered by some bad early episodes and scripts.

Meh:
McCoy
McGann

Carrot Juice:
Colin Baker

God Tier:
Hartnell
Pertwee
Tom Baker
Colin Baker
Eccleston

Demigod Tier:
Davison

Amazing Tier:
Troughton
McCoy
McGann
Tennant:

Meh Tier:
Smith

If I had to pick just one favorite, it would be Tom. I can rearrange the orders of the Doctors within my tiers on a regular basis, though.

Hmm...

Tennant
Baker
Eccleston
Smith
Troughton
Davison

Haven't seen enough of the others to judge. I still think Davison was good, he's got a special place in my nostalgia, the others are just better.

For me to definitively rank each Doctor in significance and other criteria would take ages to decide, so much that my brains would be racked beyond all hope. Instead: let me say that bringing back a jaded Susan, unlikely to reconsider her feelings for a Doctor who abandoned her, would be one of the coolest possible things Moffat could possibly do for the show.

I just wish Ian Marter was still alive to play Harry again.

Bringing Susan back is such a cool idea that I fear it'll never happen.

And I know that the mystery is part of the charm, but I still hope that someday we'll learn how he came to have a granddaughter. Who knows if they'll ever go there, though. Might be sacred ground.

You know I said this before-but for a while, my thought was that The Doctor and River were going to knock boots and produce an offspring-which would in turn be Susan (Or Susan's Mother) and we would see The Eleventh Doctor put her in the care of The First Doctor...

-edit- Wibbly wobbly is hurting my head trying to wrap itself around how that would work.

I've been saying much the same thing for a long time. There are a lot of problems to work around though.

Whoa this is the 10,000th post. This thread is amazing. Im rewatching the latest season on Netflix right now and a Good Man goes to war is still one of my favorites.

I've wondered the same thing as well. Not sure if River will be involved, but I do think that if they were to re-visit Susan, there's a possibility she'd be related to a relationship we actually see play out.

With the Doctor being a Time Lord, Susan just popping into his life when he was the First Doctor, explaining who she is, and traveling with him isn't all that far-fetched a scenario.

Have to admit though, I'd nerd out if they broke tradition and actually gave us a Zeroth Doctor for a few years...but I doubt that'd ever happen.

I'd rather Susan's origin remain somewhat a mystery, much like the Doctor. Carole Ann Ford is still alive though, so an older Susan could make an appearance (assuming someone wants to create an explanation for her being alive, post-Time War) if he wanted to take a trip down memory lane.
