Doctor Who Series 2011 |OT| Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Stuff

Alright so first impressions:

I like Smith so far, he's a weird one. Kind of weird looking, weird voice, weird attitude. He seems like a little kid, kind of fits in with him just being "born." I hope the character grows to be more of the all knowing, most powerful force in the universe Doctor that I like to see.

Amy is obviously gorgeous and I have a good feeling that she's going to be a great companion. Seems like she's going to be sex'd up a little bit more than the past companions?

I have no problem with that.

This is exactly what I love about Smith's Doctor.

He displays a youthful quirkiness and curiosity that I feel Tennant lacked comparatively, but as his character goes on and experiences his new adventures with the Ponds, he becomes very adult and realizes just how old and destructive he is. He's much much darker than Tennant.

Tennant was the right-man-for-the-job Doctor, the one that was hardly ever unsure of himself. Smith's Doctor is his worst enemy.

The shot at the end of The Eleventh Hour that has all the past Doctors projected with Smith walking through Tennant's reflection and saying "I'm the Doctor" was pretty amazing. Gave me chills.

Only BBC America had it, but for some reason it carried over to Netflix too. I hate it. There are few things in life I love more than the opening teaser ending on a dramatic moment and then that theme kicks in.
They have that stupid message on the last season of Matt Smith episodes down here in Aus. Its a pain we have to get the US eps and not the UK ones. You'd think a country that has shown Dr Who since the 1960's would not need to have a stupid message to let people know what Dr Who is.

Definetly a defining moment. Introduces the Eleventh Doctor and hints at the overall theme of the next 2 seasons-he can just say his name and armies turn and run.

Forgotten was a good read, but the art shift from issue to issue was a little jarring.

OK now I get how bad the Sixth Doctor's tenure was, but how was the Trial of the Time Lord arc? Is it good overall or should I just skip it?

I did a "yes!" and a fist bump when I first saw that. Loved it.

Which is something I never thought about until now. Good point.

How does one in the states go about legally watching DW this season without tv/cable? It isn't streaming anywhere right? I know it's on netflix, but not until the end of the season, I think.

Don't know what I'm going to do if I have to wait this season, will certainly get myself spoiled.

I think iTunes/Amazon will make them available for download the day after they air in the US.

Didn't BBC America air like day of last season or am I remembering that wrong?

Comcast/Xfinity has it OnDemand year round. Somestimes its just a special or two, but there have been quite a few times that entire series of NuWhu will be up. Especially before a new season.

My Entertainment Weekly just arrived!

There is a poll inside where they asked "Who is your favorite Doctor"?

David Tennant won with 59% of the vote-with Matt Smith getting a paltry 16%....doesn't seem right-I suspect shenanigans.

...Was it only a NewWho poll?

I was rewatching "The Wedding of River Song" and I caught this-very cool:

From "Forest of the Dead"
River: If you die here, it'll mean I've never met you!
The Doctor: Time can be rewritten!
River: Not those times. Not one line! Don't you dare!

From "The Wedding of River Song"
River: Please, my love. Please please, just run.
The Doctor: Can't.
River: Time can be rewritten.
The Doctor: Don't you dare. Goodbye, River.

I'll help out if needed with the new thread.

Yeah Doctor Who made the cover of EW and there's a huge article-and then they list 25 other cult shows. You could say Doctor Who is the king of cult shows.

1. Buffy
2. Arrested Development
3. MST3K
4. X-Files
5. The Wire
6. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
7. ST: TNG
8. The Comeback
9. My So Called Life
10. LOST
11. Firefly
12. Twin Peaks
13. Veronica Mars
14. Battlestar Galactica
15. Community
16. Undeclared
17. Fringe
18. Wonder Showzen
19. Supernatural
20. Popular
21. Party Down
22. Farscape
23. Better off Ted
24. Archer
25. Pushing Daisies.

I would remove Popular and The Comeback and replace them with Doctor Who and Stargate.
