Does anyone else have the sinking feeling that the BBC are are starting to push Doctor Who into more of an American thing? Stories set in the US involving the US president, premiere screening in New York...I get the feeling we're only a few steps away from 'BBC Worldwide and Starz presents: Doctor Who' set predominantly in the USA.

I don't feel that way at all. It's good to see episodes shot in other countries once in a while. The TARDIS can travel anywhere in space and time, but it spends most of its time in modern day Britain. New vistas and new stories based around new surroundings are always welcome.

Sure, but why not go to France or Japan? They keep going to the US for their 'Doctor abroad' stories.

[edit]Except the Van Gogh episode, I suppose.

Give it time. The Doctor has been to America a number of times before over the course of a number of series spanning as far back as classic Who. It just seems in this one he's going to be spending a bit more time there.

Not really, they did a big launch in the US last year too. Doctor Who is getting more well known in the US, and BBC America had some cash to go towards the production. They filmed 2 episodes in Romania last year and Planet of the Dead in UAE.

Well, just don't come bleating to me when Matt Smith regenerates into Matt LeBlanc and the series moves to filming in Seattle.

I'm good with LeBlanc, as long as he uses a terrible British accent. Seattle would be terrible though.

In fairness, british shows trying to appeal to american audiences tends to ruin them.

Just look at Red Dwarf.

I think it's less that and more BBC Worldwide realizing this and Top Gear have a big American fanbase already - one that would prefer not to wait to see new episodes, and part of which will go through - ahem - other means to get them.

So why not do everything you can to reduce or eliminate the wait, and at the same time make your primary American outlet more appealing, which brings in more money to BBC Worldwide, which can filter back into these shows?

I don't think money from Worldwide goes directly back to the shows.

4 more Episode title's revealed:

Episode 3:
The Curse of the Black Spot
by Steve Thompson
Episode 6:
The Almost People (formerly Gangers)
by Matthew Graham
Episode 7:
A Good Man Goes To War (formerly Demon's Run)
by Steven Moffat

Damn, I liked
Demon's Run but I guess a Good Man ties into the River story line.

NewWho stories set for a significant portion in other countries (assuming other parts of the UK don't count, otherwise there's a few Waleses and Scotlands in here)

Dalek (US)
The Girl In The Fireplace (France)
Daleks In Manhattan (US)
The Fires of Pompeii (Italy)
The Vampires of Venice (Italy)
Vincent and the Doctor (France)

It seems fairly evenly balanced to me. Although it *does* appear that the Daleks hate America.

All the Episode titles we know:

Spring Series - Starts April 23rd
Episode 1:
The Impossible Astronaut
by Steven Moffat
Episode 2:
Day of the Moon
by Steven Moffat
Episode 3:
The Curse of the Black Spot
by Steve Thompson (Sherlock: The Blind Banker)
Episode 4:
The Doctor's Wife
by Neil Gaiman (The Sandman, Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods, Coraline)
Episode 5:
The Rebel Flesh
by Matthew Graham (Doctor Who: Fear Her, Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Spooks)
Episode 6:
The Almost People
by Matthew Graham
Episode 7:
A Good Man Goes To War
by Steven Moffat

Autumn Series - Starts September?
Episode 8: ??? by Steven Moffat
Episode 9:
Working Tile supposedly 'What Are Little Boys Made Of?'. Could change to 'House Call' or 'Night Terrors'
by Mark Gattis (The League of Gentlemen, Sherlock: The Great Game, Doctor Who: The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern, Victory of the Daleks).
Episode 10:
Rumoured to be 'The Green Anchor'
by Tom MacRae (Doctor Who: Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel)
Episode 11:
The God Complex
by Toby Whithouse (Being Human, Doctor Who: School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice, Torchwood: Greeks Bearing Gifts)
Episode 12: ??? by Gareth Roberts (Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Code, The Unicorn and the Wasp, The Lodger)
Episode 13: ??? by Steve Moffat

I'm rather curious about Matthew Graham's episode. On one hand, Fear Her was pretty awful. On the other, though, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes was *so* good. Hopefully Fear Her was the aberration in that.

There's an awful lot of 'The' titles, aren't there?

I bet one of the unknown titles is simply "Silence"

Wasn't Fear Her thrown together as a replacement for another episode that season? I'll give him a second shot considering what else he's produced.

A nagging feeling that it was in place of the episode Stephen Fry was supposed to have produced.

I would seriously like some kind of among the Barbarians type deal, or a story set in China or Japan or... something

You could always check out some classic Who serials for China or Barbarian themed stories.

Yeah, anything from the first series or the second series up to The Chase.

Or is that Barbara episodes?

Sounds about right. They're worth checking out anyhow because the First Doctor is awesome.

Just read an interesting "rumor". The old Tardis is, in fact, the 8th Doctor's Tardis & he shows up in that energy orb thing. I mean, it kinda makes some sense. Why else would the BBC commission a new costume & sonic screwdriver to be created JUST to promote the radio show? Perhaps the 8th Doctor is from the end of the Time War & needed a more "battle-ready" outfit?

Uhh... I'm pretty sure I started that rumor earlier in this thread. LOL

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure the 8th Doctor's new costume had nothing to do with the BBC. That's something McGann had designed himself. I know the screwdriver was apparently done by Weta.

I liked
Gangers
as a title, but I guess they thought people would think it was about
Gangstas
rather than
Doppelgangers
.

The problem with this theory is that they would need to get eccleston back as well, and I don't think that's very likely.

You never know. Eccleston had issues with the production crew and RTD which prompted him to quit. They've all gone now.

If they managed to get McGann and Eccleston for a regeneration shot I would be impressed they managed to keep it secret.

Got any more info on that? I've never really looked into why he left.

I don't have a link but i remember when it first came out it was released that he didn't want to be typecast. He eventually came out later saying that was bollox and that he had issues with the crew.

Lol, what did they do? Stick their cocks in his brew? Ahh well.

I think it'd be awesome if they got Eccolstein back too. If we saw the regeneration between them it would be great, especially if they did some kind of nod to the first episode of new who where it seemed like the Doctor was seeing his face for the first time in Rose's house. I just think it would be an awesome thing if they did it.

What I really want is another "Three Doctors" tale.

Good old meet yourself from a previous regeneration stories. You never get old!

Yes. Get Sean Pertwee to play the 3rd Doctor.

I want a Pertwee, McGann, Smith story.

Pah. Moffat's already done a "meet yourself from the *same* regeneration" story. Twice. Blinovitch be damned!

I don't know if anyone remembers, but there were some old RTD scripts posted in the old thread. One was of his final episodes - or the beginning of his final episodes. I don't suppose anybody still has those links?
