Apart from that non-binary character: how’s the game?

None of the darkness and grit of the original games. Terrible writing. No real conflict amongst any of the characters. Combat is grindy and enemies are unnecessarily spongey. Terrible writing. Relationships are hollow and never fleshed out. The MQ comes to a halt if you intend to do all of the side quests. Terrible writing. Level designs are pretty to look at but nonsense to traverse via ziplines. Story has no weight and impact. Terrible writing. Romance is boring and disjointed. Terrible writing.

Agreed.

Also looks terrible (subjective) in game puzzles are insultingly easy, no real sense you have any weight on directing story events.

So you are trusting reviewers again?

Well I guess that's your problem, then. Enjoy the sanitized media that has replaced actual good entertainment.
I don’t enjoy bad writing so am not playing it.

You gave specific reasons why game is bad. Hence the reply.

I wouldn’t be surprised if reviewers were wrong about multiple things in that list.

The reviewer I watched backed up his claims with game footage. It is uninspired and lacks grit. It is safe and aesthetically pleasing for a generation of people who have no idea what good writing and powerful conflict means.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.

How’s the writing though? Any opinion?

I don't feel that is a bad thing. Sometimes I am in the mood for stuff like the nihilism from games like Nier Automata and movies like The Thing, and sometimes I'd rather watch dumb stuff like The A Team or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Gotta give my brain a rest every so often from the dark and serious stuff.

That is an absolutely reasonable behavior. I feel that way too. However, they took a series that started much darker in tone and have taken it far enough away from that in design and talent. I don't know that that's the right direction for Dragon Age. Had this been a new IP or perhaps in a different medieval universe, it wouldn't face the same scrutiny. Maybe that's Veilguard's problem in the first place. It should've just been Veilguard instead of Dragon Age.

To highlight “no conflict” more - you cannot be mean, Rook is always a hero. This is supposed to be an RPG.
