Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

I remember the framerate being a bit jarring in the first village, but I haven't really noticed as much since. Perhaps my brain/eyes adjusted.

Like how you adjust to 240p only to go back to anything higher and feel like the 3DS is a fragment of the forgotten past. :p

Does anything actually ever get the stuff from casinos in DQ games? You either need to spend an obscene amount of money or spend hours hoping to get lucky

I spent a good hour or so on the slots yesterday. It'll take forever to get anything from these things. I have no clue how Poker works either so I pretty much lost all my tokens there right afterwards lol

Maturity, bitches.

Well in DQ8 you could game the system so you'd basically win every time.

I got 4000 tokens in ten minutes on the slots. It's a crap shoot, but it's possible. Is it worth it? Not really. Is it fun? Yes it is.

Aw well, won't stop me from buying this game.

I wish NX would be BC though, so I could continue buying 3ds games without feeling like I was playing on a half broken console.

I made it to the first village. It took so long to get to a part in the game where you can fight monsters, I spent a good 30-40 minutes just "grinding" whilst I had the female warrior to heal up my party. I think I'm going to keep this save file separate from now on, so if I ever want to play the game from the start again, I can hop right in to it without the huge long intro section.

My L-should button seems to be broken. But I have a N3ds, can I use the 2nd stick for camera?

My R-shoulder button I thought was broken but mysteriously it comes back to life every now and then.

EDIT:

We just like to have a good time *slurp*.

uh-huh....

Huh, well I tried really hard to open my n3ds to clean it, but It was harder than I remember it being on I think the DS lite?

strangely for me I just hold down the R-shoulder button while opening up the N3DS and booting up and it just starts to work. I've no idea how long this will last tho.

I hate consecutive bosses in RPGs.

Tinpot Dictator - Slaughtomaton
can go fuck right off

I kinda experienced something similar to this during the ygg tree timeline and wasn't expecting the 2nd one....

First boss that wrecks me in the area with two castles. Getting hit by sleep and being destroyed by multi target spells repeatedly sucks, I don't know how I'm doing this without spending a lot in magic resistant gear. I'm leaving this damned place.

I got through it in the end. Weapons and gear are so damned expensive in this game as well.

It's best to just stretch your budget. I'm taking my time on this playthrough but I've finished the 1st island and my Hero still has a bamboo pole. The only thing I've bought so far is a single copper sword for Kiefer. Just buy only when there are big upgrades and prefer stuff with special properties.

The enchanted weapons are also super useful even when they're not the best option for a weapon anymore since you can use them in battle to cast spells. For that area, having enchanted weapons in say Maribel's inventory can be really useful.

I just finished the arc with the roamers. Man, I love this game. Definitely living up to the game that I remembered.

Visit the Grandfather of the guard. He's in the South East corner of the town with the barracks. Talk to the grandfather then talk to his daughter. You will get a fragment. If you got that one then you probably missed the one in the past in the same city. Should be relatively easy to find.

Haha, yeah, but the quillers are so cuuuuute in this game!

I might be crazy, but I remember being able to.

Thank you for the help, I found it!

Hey Aeana,

Got a question for you, do you have a link to what skills go with what monster classes? Or were those not changed like the human classes ? I have the strategy guide for DW7, but this is one aspect that I am pretty sure it doesn't apply.

Also those immigrant town tablets are amazing for monster hearts. Got three in one run first time through the kingfuschia one.

Nothing in English. Just many Japanese pages like this one which lists all of the monster classes at the top and on each page, the ranks and skills on the right-hand table. Hopefully someone will produce something in English soon.

I got to Emberdale last night and saved after finishing the bit where Palmela talks about her vision about the volcano, after I complete this island how much longer until I will be able to unlock the download bar? Really don't want to miss out on those tablets.

Where do I go after Alltrades?

Because I've collected every fragment I can find and the Imp-Thing at the Shrine can't tell what to do...
Did you fight the bandit boss for his fragment?

I think you need to have 3 settlers in the Haven to unlock it.

Pretty soon, 1 more island.

Almost through Alltrades in the past. Can't wait.

Feeling the urge to gimp myself with unorthodox party setups as if this were FF5 Fiesta.

All slime party, let's do this.

Think those text errors will be fixed in a patch?

They are way too minor to justify the cost of producing and distributing a patch.

I'd like for the frame drops whenever new text is displayed on screen to be fixed.

Maybe the budget was super tight on this but it comes across pretty bad.

It would be nice if they at least enabled New 3DS CPU support. Forcing it via CFW fixes all of the slowdowns.

Thank you very much.

What's crazy is outside the class changes, the old strat guide holds up well.

After putting 10 hours in, this seems a lot faster than the last Dragon Quest game I played (VIII). Does this game ever reach the point where you simply have to grind for two hours before every dungeon? VIII on PS2 definitely made me feel like I needed to at a certain point in the game, but that was a few years back.

Amazon France will not let me order this game unless I have a Premium subscription. Did anyone else run into this problem? That's the first time this has happened and I'm really pissed since the other online retailers have the game at 40€ instead of 30 on Amazon.

I think I'm missing something here...
I just got the monster cookies, which should let me befriend monsters. The first battle after it, a Sea Lips appeared after battle, I thought I got him with me. Then I went to the place where they should be, and the monster is nowhere to be seen, even the old man there says I haven't found any monsters yet.

After that. no monster has appeared after battle. Yeah, don't know how I screwed up.

I'm confused about this as well. I have sent back 5 or 6 monsters and I don't know how to see them.

It's a rare chance for them to appear after battle, and they only show up in the Monster Meadows later on in the story (even though you get technically go to the Meadows right now)

That's really how its felt so far. I do some very light grinding (maybe 10 minutes for every new town to get a level up), and I haven't had any members die in the first 15 hours. Story is keeping me going though. Excited to open up vocations.

Welp, just had my first death ~15 hours in, against
Slaughtomaton. Boss battles directly after a previous boss battle are my least favorite thing.
