I find it kind of crazy how speeding up a fucking UI is enough to make me want to jump on CFW. Need to get a new micro SD to full SD adapter I think!

Another class question:

Looking at old DWVII class guides they mention hybrid skills, are those in this game?

I noticed repeated mention of Sword Dance and how Aishe should learn it when she gets to lvl 5 Warrior because she comes with lvl 5+ Dancer. Is Sword Dance Muscle Dance? If not, has it been moved to another class or removed entirely? Or do I have to go back and fight battles as her already mastered Dancer?

Forget everything you read. There are no hybrid skills in this version.

Aishe gets it through level upping.

I think a few advanced classes get it too.

If it is the same point I'm thinking of, he's in his dining room. You have to talk to a maid to gain entrance.

Just found him.

What a load of horseshit tbh.

Everybody kept telling me to go check the festival, obviously after one hour of going through every house there i went back to my town, dad mentioned donald, went there, couldn't find him.

I never thought about the dining room, it's stupid, nothing mentioned that.

A couple questions about the second casino:

1. Is there a difference between the pair matching tables on the two floors?
2. Any tips on which slot machine to pick here?

I went from Hero's Dad straight into the Throne Room, and his chancellor/minister/whatever told me that he was eating. *shrug*

Did I waste a bunch of money at Balleymolly? I did the entire thing without buying any gear I figured I would find some. Well I didn't find anything and as I was leaving I used all my gold I saved to gear up. Totally backwards. I saved before this should I restart over and skip gearing up and buy stuff at the next town?

After playing through about 60 hours of DQVII up to now, I'm even more excited to see what DQXI will bring to the table with its battle system (just looking back at that fast and snappy 3DS battle gameplay is giving me whiplash).

well there's gonna be new gear available at the next town. maybe not for everybody.

if you can get by then sure, restart. it doesn't matter a whole lot at this point though.

I defeated
Gracos V
yesterday. That was a fun fight. I didn't have Wool Guard so that made the fight a lot more interesting. It has probably been the most challenging fight in the game so far.

Faraday WTF

Sending you back and forth between rooms and other locations several times and having to speak to everyone in one area to proceed. I hope this is a one time thing as the pacing was fine so far. Also the boss fell with one party member barely alive.
I hope this is not the beginning of tedium.

Wow, really? I thought that fight was a breeze, and I had only basic classes in my party. Honestly, I'm about 45 hours in and this game has yet to throw anything challenging my way. I've had just two wipeouts and that was only due to me being lazy and not switching off autopilot. Maybe it's just the linear progression of the story? I played DQ3 (mobile) a few months back and I remember getting my party wiped out pretty frequently

What level were you? Did you use Wool Guard? Did you have
Melvin
?

Actually, now that you bring it up, I did put off that quest for a few hours. I think Hero was around level 27? No Wool Gaurd but I did indeed have
Melvin
. However, if I did do it immediately with my intermediate classes
(Gladiator/Sage/Monster Masher)
, I don't think it would have made a difference. As for the fight itself, I just mostly took my time healing and buffing the party while having one or two characters keep up the attacking. Took a little while but it was a comfortable fight.

DQ3 seemed pretty easy compared to that fight referenced above. LOL That was nearly my breaking point when I played through the PS1 original back in 2010. Very different experiences! :)

Hö! A wipe! The party was wiped in a regular boss fight for the first time! It was
in the sunken city, that frog merman asshole
.
That caught me off guard. The game has been quite easy to this point, not auto battle easy, but also no grind neccesary. This one seems to require at least new job tactics. He slapped me silly, I do not think I can just walk there again with the same level and setup and hope that it will work all of a sudden.

A challenge! I like that!

Well, that explains things. :p

For that fight, I had both the hero and Maribel at level 22. Ruff was at level 21. I didn't have
Melvin

Faraday present now. I completely forgot that
Autonymous somehow managed to fucking reproduce. I was sure he just stayed in his hut being served by ELLIE forever.

Its been about a month since I got a good night's sleep. (Going to bed earlier is not an option due to things outside of my control). Been trying to get through the intro and I keep falling asleep. Its super frustrating because I fancied myself as a dragon quest fan. This game (and Bravely Default) were the reasons why I bought the 3DS years ago. Anyway, I don't know how much longer I have before I get to the meat and potatoes of this journey

Just gave some old guy a book. Can't remember his name because I was nodding off but he told me to get Keifer and come back

Anyone know how much more I have to go?

You're almost at the first battle.

OK, so I've gotten to the town where all the people have been turned into animals and my party is telling me to find someone who can talk to animals. I know the woodcutter on the home island can do so, and I've gone to talk to him, but nothing happens when I do so. So I can't figure out what I need to do to trigger the next story event. What am I missing?

It took me an embarrassingly long time for me to remember that guy was who I needed to talk to.

I think I'm near the end of the game and now I face the most difficult decision:
Choosing the party composition. I think I'm going to stay without Maribel so she can think more about her priorities. The hero doesn't forgive people that prefer taking care of their parents than going on an adventure!!! About the class composition I suppose it will be the three final vocations and armamentalist/monster masher. I don't know which one yet.

It's a bit strange reading about where people are dying. I've died on multiple bosses but usually not the ones being discussed :p. Just recently died to the
cloud boss in the sanctum
, the guy liked killing my Aishe in one hit with his AOE (she was training mage) and I let the adds stay awake one turn to heal and that was the end of Ruff and Mervyn.

I also died early on to that
robot
, but the game had been so easy I just went into that series of fights with nigh 0 MP for sap/healing and I think most of my boss deaths have been like this, charge into a fight with no magic, fall behind on healing, start thinking it is a no-win fight or the boss is doing his late fight spam, and dying while trying to eke out that last bit of damage.

Or the dragon on the
idol statue
who had it out for my (again) mage/healer the first time making it much easier the second time when he targeted my tankier warrior for extermination instead.

But the Abbey bosses, Gracos, etc. all turned out okay for me on first time. IDK, I just think it is pretty variable tbh, especially with how many bosses can kill from pretty high health if they double up just right. Or they can be dumb, but couple that with waxing and waning player laziness, the vicissitudes of class training with different weaknesses and strengths, and things will differ.

I actually managed
Gracos
fine enough first time, scorch with a monster masher was pretty strong. How long do I have to fight
V
? I'm under the impression it's a timed thing?

Yes, in the original game the fight is no longer accessible after a certain point in the story in Disc 2. I don't remember the specific point, though. :(

The fight is entirely optional. Give it a try. You can always use the sands of time to restart the battle if you're having trouble.

I thought
it was the Captain that carried on the family line? That his descendant inherited both the brothers' characteristics (sword and tinkering).

Character spoiler:

So does
Kiefer leave for good? Gonna miss him :(
Yeah.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
At the Emberdale story now...
where is Pike
?

Just clocked in at 70 hours during the Cirrus arc. This is the best RPG on the 3DS and in my top 3 greatest games of all time. I'm so friggin happy we got this remake.

Just reading the responses on how some DQ newbies are getting their ass kicked on some levels and bosses. As any DQ fan would way, you always have to grind at least 2-3 levels per new town you visit so you don't get ass kicked and have money to buy more weapons in future towns. Honestly guys, SE dumbed down the boss fights and made way easier so far. I recall in the PS1 version having to carefully plan my tactics, change weapons, or level up to get more spells learned to beat a boss. That's the advice I can give you newbies.

So it turns out I accidentally bought Dragon Quest VIII on Amazon at first, so I have a nice surprise coming next year. I've finally sourced DQVII and played about 2 hours in.

With DQVII, I was wondering how North Americans cope with all the British slang Keifer uses? He uses quite a few words that I haven't even heard an English person use for a long time. Also, that town where people all talk in Irish accents; is there more of this type of endearing regional flavour scattered throughout the world? I'm really enjoying the game so far, it seems to be bursting with charm and fun.

Now that Squeenix have butchered FF, I think DQ might become my new favourite JRPG series...

I sure hope no DQ fan would say that, since it's not remotely true.
