Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

Uhh which town do I go to to get Mervyn? I've already talked to Pike, mind you.
If you've spoken to Pike,
you learn he sold the stone to a rich man. Go to the various empty mansions of that guy and eventually you'll track him down to his villa that is only accessible by river crossing. Fly over it with the carpet and talk to him there. He won't surrender the stone but will join the party when you leave. From there, you'll need to find the highest tower in the world, which is a location you haven't been in yet- shouldn't take you long to find with the carpet.

I actually did the casino in VIII. I've never done them again and don't particularly want to.

Is there an EG map shard in one? Noticed
Buccanham
present had a shard.

Damn, that slime forest tablet really does break the game if you take advantage of it by grinding there. I spent the weekend mindlessly killing slimes in the background while watching football, and not only do I have a shitload of classes mastered for everyone, but I have like 65,000 gold from selling the plentiful slime hearts for 200 a piece.

I'm currently mastering all classes for everyone. The class mastery is faster compared to the PS1 version. Should make mastering all classes a piece of cake eventually. And thanks for the Tip to grind classes and money now.

With the Sanctum of the cirrus in the present, where's the other Fragment? The one thats described as being on the lower levels? I've looked everywhere. :/

You have to wait to learn them again. However, Monster Heart Vocations abilities are learned permanently, and there is some overlap there as well.

How do the tiers for Monster Vocations work ? I figured it'd just be a matter of getting the heart but there's diagrams showing what seems to be class trees.

God I love the desert scenario.
to returning to present day and having everyone welcome you and throw a party made me smile. It was the kind of thing I hoped one place would do, after saving everyone

Got stuck again and had to rely on youtube vids of the PSX version. The Halo Orb is now renamed as Acolus Orb. I just wish the game would hint to you on what and when something should be used even when talking to everyone in the party.

Kind of stuck at the moment, can't find the
Sunken Citadel
The game tells me to ask some fishermen but I can't find any, even the ones in the towns don't know anything.

Are you trying to get there in the past or the present? If it's the past, it's a questline you can't miss. If it's the present once you've finished it,
there is a whirlpool just off the coast of one of the islands- approach in a ship. If it doesn't take your ship down to the sunken city, ask in the nearest settlements to see if anyone mentions it. I remember an npc telling me about it.

Yes, the game is terrible at this, it has 4 different interaction methods and no consistency in their use (sometimes it's the interact button (A), sometimes Examine, sometimes using the item from the inventory and sometimes just standing in exactly the right place).

I'm really enjoying the game but I Definietely agree here and the remake could have mopped that up. I've second guessed myself a few times over whether I was in the right place doing the right thing or not, although I've not had to head to youtube just yet.

I finished the village
where all the people were animals. Did that thing where I had to find the three women and got the book. On the button screen I can see that I can get a fragment there. Where is it? Was in every house and talked to everyone but haven't found it yet.

If I'm remembering correctly, it's in the back of one of the shops on the right hand side of the map. You'll have to enter via the backdoor.

Of course I could be thinking of another village.

Got busy and couldn't play as much lately; and put a little work in yesterday. Still pre Alltrades-Abbey. At the temple now w/ the Roamers and just drained the lake.

Yes, it was
right next to the bed in the weaponshop.
Really need to spin the camera more often.

This sure is a slowburner, yeesh! Not one I would ever recommend to newcomers to the DQ series. But it is starting to grow on me quite a bit. The characters are very lovable. Just got Ruff in my party, so...yeah, he's cute as fuck! Haven't sunk many hours into it yet, since work is a bit crazy for me right now, and really, the game just doesn't reach out and grab you the way some other DQ games do. But it has just enough so far to hold my interest.

Need to find a Ruff t-shirt somewhere...

I shot people I like more for less.

Might not be remembering correctly, but when you enter, in between the two staircases on the first floor, there's a door you can enter that has four rooms. It's in one of those. Hope I'm not mixing this up with something else.

So I'm at 15 hours and still have not unlocked the jobs lol .

I'm lvl 15 and just completed the island with the
Herb village (sorry don't
remember name
I also went to a cave after that on the same island, not sure if I was supposed to do that but I fought a boss got 2 fragments out of this place so I guess it's good .
It's refreshing to see that not all
story end well also .

Really a great Dragon Quest so far .

OK the game is beginning to feel a bit slow-motion now. The Automaton island was particularly bad, because I had to run back and forth to different locations on the Island quite a bit, both during the recovery phase, and also when I returned afterwards :S At least I had one of my party members pass out on the Boss fight there.
the last one, Slaughtaton ??
. Here's hoping that Island was a sort of one-off.

11-12 hours in, still no jobs in sight :D

I love the automaton mission.

The El ciclo story.... is a shame they didn't use the alternate version of the theme like the psx version

The 'Next Tablet Fragment' option on the menu says that there is one in the Temple Palace in the Present Day. When I go to the room the throne room there are two servants blocking the way to the fragment, or at least where I reckon the fragment is. What am I missing? I just finished up the
architect's tower
in the present day.

I didn't know about the
Slime Tablet thing and got past level 20 during the Alltrades quest
so now I can't level up jobs nearly as fast. Any suggestions for what I should do instead? I have looked all over the internet!

I feel like it's the only way to save some even more insane grinding after the
messenger
boss.

Sounds like we're at about the same point in the game, though I just started at the automaton area. Like the town design so far, and mobs are putting up a bit more resistance. But yeah, the game is VERY slow to get going. Reading through the thread a bit, I know it will still be a while before I get vocations, but storywise, there's still not a lot happening.

I'm done with casinos for now.

I assume
Buccanham
casino offers the best casino item for the game?

The Haven's Casino gets better items once you hit a higher threshold of residents. I have all the DLC tablets residents and all the normal progression residents that you can get without beating the game, and my stuff got upgraded at some point.

How do the tiers for Monster Vocations work ? I figured it'd just be a matter of getting the heart but there's diagrams showing what seems to be class trees.

This I don't know anything about, since I did not touch Monster Vocations in the original. I haven't had a problem swapping to anything I want yet. Just have to have the Heart.

You either use the heart to go directly to the class or you master the prerequisites. Some hearts aren't available until very late and/or take a while to get from drops or the casinos.

Lol (after 4th red tablet)
I decided to do some side content before going into the tower you were supposed to after getting the magic carpet but I forgot to return to the tower later and I apparently managed to do the entirety of Nottagen with only three party members. An NPC said four heroes were involved.

So now I'm going to do the Sir Melvyn thing.

I'm surprised you think there's not a lot happening storywise at this point (I very much disagree), but I'm curious to see what you think after this island because, from this point, the length and breadth of the scenarios start to expand, I think.

So I'm a few hours in; the game is a slow burn you guys weren't kidding. I'm having a hard time being engaged. Just got to the very first island after solving the temple puzzle. Does the story start to take off?

Also, I'm not much of a graphics junkie but I don't think the game looks as fantastic as most claim. I mean the character models look nice, and the 3D is one of the best, but the towns and fields kinda look a bit standard for a DQ game. Maybe it's cuz I'm playing on the bigger N3DSXL screen. I dunno...

This is TBH my least favorite part of DQVII. I had beaten it for PS1, but had forgotten that you literally have like 2 abilites per character for almost 20 hours.
