Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

Just went through the first bonus dungeon and tried my hand at the boss. Wiped out my party in 1 turn the first time, in 3 turns the second time.

Is any of the post game stuff different from the PSX version? I completed everything on the PSX version, so I think I might just start Builders and come back to this later, possibly never if nothing is different. Seems like I'll have to grind for some time to be able to finish it.

I love how in its own long-winded fashion DQVII really subverts the formula, I've been playing through blind and I just got up to alltrades abbey;
where upon selecting a vocation you're sent below to toil without your abilities, get stomped in two battles, fight tooth and nail to get through two dungeons only to be greeted by an arena.

I am loving this game so far, worth every penny.

So I'm in aeoleus Vale at the moment and beginning to wonder how far I am, I'm level 30 for the main character 28 for ruff and lower for the other 2. 30 hours in and I'm kinda feeling the burn with the cycle approach to the story

Postgame might be worth it if you want to find out a bit more of the world, yeah.

Afaik, there are 2 bonus dungeons each with a boss at the end.

For the first one, make sure you are very prepared and you bring your best equipment and luck cause that boss can be reaaaaally tough. You'll have to pray to the RNGeezus
to win 3 battles in under 20 turns of nonsense
. 2nd bonus dungeon should give you no trouble. I'd also recommend having Mulitheal on Maribel since Druid doesn't learn it for some reason. And that healing dance is awful, never want to use it.

So I tried this guy.

That lightning attack is fucking devastating and it's all up to RNG whether you'll get a change to heal or he'll just decide to spam it again.

Yeah I'm satisfied leaving the post game dungeons incomplete.

Also a little salty because I just spent a couple hours maxing out Champion on Aishe and Mervyn so I'd have 3x Blade of Ultimate Power for the boss.

Yep, the bolt from the blue is ridiculous. I realized I'd have to grind at least 20 levels to beat him thanks to that single attack (would need tons of HP to ensure it's survivable plus surviving afterwards). Everything else is survivable. So I decided to just quit.

Where the heck can i find king of buccanham in the present so i can enter the beacon?

What's the best way to win at the casino?
What i did was
Get 100 tokens
Keep spinning the reels until you make enough to spend 90 tokens consistently in the 2nd tirr slot machines
Once u can use 900 tokens consistently go for the 3rd tier machines

Just got to the first part of the game I really didn't like. I don't really think I'm spoiling anything story wise but it's the part where you have to repeatedly go up and down the mountain between the village and the church. That was really tedious and annoying.

Wow, Cumulus Vex is really bringing it.
Only Maribel had multiheal and I don't have her at the moment
so it looks like I'll have to get some classes up with other party members. Fastest route to multiheal?

After 8 hours plus, I have finally made it to Mechaland! Love how the robots look in the remake. Love pretty much everything about the remake really. So good.

Currygan

at last, for christ's sake
so I forgot to switch and level up jobs, had only Maribel as sage, then replaced by Aishe,
Mervyn
as dancer and Rolf and the hero as warriors, got to Cumulus Vex and he unceremoniously destroyed me. Took me two damn days of grinding basically from scratch to get my guys to Champion, Hero, Pirate Captain and Sage and sent Cumulus to the trash bin in four rounds. Feltgoodman

ps game is incredible. it's sucking up my life, can barely even surf Gaf anymore

I never had an issue with that boss tbh @o@ ...and I had 2 Hero classes and 2 Tier 1 classes for the remaining 2 :v

You should have found a healslime heart at La Bravoure, assuming you didn't use it on Maribel.

Tier 8 to unlock the spell, and it's only 160 fights.

Guess I'm ready for some final thoughts. Time played ended up being 73:40 of which maybe 20 of those hours was fun regular DQ romping? DQ8 was about that long without any of the making you do the same places over and over again thing so I gots no prob saying most of 7 was filler/padding/fluff/whatever!

Even the endgame had it out for me. Sir Oldguy (aka Sir Mervyn)
being plotted out of the party for the final 4 or so(?) dungeons leading up to the final one sucked! Made him fall behind in levels and vocation!
Instead making ya use The Nag (formerly known as Maribel, thanks name changer guy!) who I had no intention of using ever again and was behind in levels was annoying. Not ta mention still reusing dungeons with still the same baddies. Kinda surprised
ya never visited Estard Island in the past
.

May just trade the game in since I gots no intention of ever replaying the story. Is the post-game tablet dungeon crawling any fun? Doesn't seem like the game has neat loot to hunt after, nor other things 9 has going for its post-game. So I dunno.

Trade it in. Move in to something else. There are other games to play

any idea where the frobisher people went?
can you find them again before the ending?

I lost out first time as well. Ended up with Paladin, Gladiator, Paladin, Martial Artist and took him out with strength alone. Got lucky that he didn't use his big wind moves too much. Most of the time he was using up turns summoning helpers.

Hey guys, I'm really stuck and have no idea where to go next.

When I ask for guidance, it says there are two tablet pieces
in the present day in an ocean whirlpool
, and one in
King Maximo's Mansion
. Now, I figure I'll have to
trade for the third (currently have 49)
, but I have no idea where the
whirlpool
is. I found an
ocean cave with a waterfall showing an ancient city
, but there's not really anything I can do there.

The last two major story events I did were in
Nottagen and Providence
, and I just
revived Sir Mervyn
. The journal sounds cryptic when I look up
Nottagen after the worm attack
, like I should still be doing something there, but there's nothing
going on in the present
. It's driving me mad what to do next! I'm a little over 40 hours in, and I don't want to drop it, but I feel like I've exhausted every world I have available so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question for anyone who's finished the game, as I don't remember from the PS1 days (it's been years): I just defeated
Gracos
-- roughly how far in would you say I am? Have I hit the halfway point yet?

It's a very long game so it's hard to put into perspective but half way seems about right.

What's the CS in the Vale that causes the end-game bug, if you don't see it?

I just done with the scenario but I can't seem to trigger any extra CS.

What's the CS in the Vale that causes the end-game bug, if you don't see it?

I just done with the scenario but I can't seem to trigger any extra CS.

Found this from Dragon's Den.

3) GAME BREAKING BUG! At the end game, after unlocking the final dungeon
at least one person reported that in entering Aeolus Vale in the past,
Maribel exited the party, and it went from 4 to 3 party members. Maribel
was stuck on top of Aishe (or whoever the party member left in Maribel's
room would be), and when selected could only be traded out with someone
active in the party. Upon entering the final battle, the game crashes.
- Very likely both versions would have whatever triggered this.
- Apparently the user who triggered this failed to see one of the last
FMV's in Aeolus Vale, and in doing so may likely have created the
conditions for the party make-up checks for the point in time that FMV
was triggered. So I'll put up a special Bug list just to account for
FMV viewing.
Cause: Potential game check upon entering Aeolus Vale that doesn't
account for the game's progression from Maribel not being present
while there. Meaning the game assumes she's still with her father
in her room, as it was when the scenario started.
- More than likely it's because the game has two separate arrays
keeping track of party makeup. One being character positions at
distinct points in the story, the other being party make-up. I'm
guessing when visiting Aeolus Vale at the end-game, and
triggering the final cutscene, the game had a sudden check for
Maribel at the time the cutscene is supposed to trigger, and she
is stuck in Pilchard Bay, while at the same time keeping track
of having 4 actual party members. Essentially creating a GHOST
Maribel within the party. Upon entering the final dungeon, a
check for party members is made when using the Amulets to
progress to the final battle, and that there are 3 actual party
members, and 1 ghost Maribel present, as two separate position
checks are made for Maribel, the game can't handle it and
crashes.
Fixes: None, but I would assure that all FMV sequences are seen after
completing each area. So double check each town to make sure
that there are no special FMVs you haven't seen yet.
- I'm going to emphasize this point: When in Aeolus Vale, MAKE
SURE TO CROSS THE RIVER AFTER THE VICTORY CELEBRATION, AND
BEFORE LEAVING.
Patch: NONE as of yet.

Finally figured out why I wasn't leveling my vocations. Looks like I'm too high leveled for each region I go to or right at the level limit. I'd go to a new region and get a couple points for vocations then level up and be over the limit, it's happened the last three continents I've gone to. Probably didn't help that I was killing a bunch of metal slimes in the region with the bridge ceremony. This sucks :-(

Nothing happens??? There is no CS after I cross the river. I even tried leaving the zone, going back to the present and the going back there, but nope, the characters are stuck in the same place and no CS.

The only CS I got after the ending was
Fidelia and her grandma,
but it's obligatory if you want to proceed since you get a key item.

Custom made tablets have no level cap, iirc, if you want to grind vocations.

All my monster tablet grinding seems to have paid off. Gabo and the protagonist are heroes, Maribel's a druid, and Sir Mervyn's a paladin. Just beat Providence, going to be hard to justify Aishe when she finally joins.

Yeah, that boss is pretty bullshit but with enough perseverence you can prolly be done with it in an hour or so with good luck.

When I fought it, I had my party at Level 40+ with:

Hero: Champion
Aishe: Champion
Sir Mervyn: Druid with Multiheal
Maribel: Druid with Multiheal

My strategy was simply spamming Multifists with my champions, summoning That Special Summon with Maribel first turn with her attacking and healing and Mervyn being the main healer. Oomphing is a waste of time and putting up defneses may or may not be worth it if Wave of Ice isn't spammed so much. It took a few tries, but I managed to get the 3 mysterious fragments.

Maribel is garbage, I'd rather use a Slime as a companion.

Peace out.

Terrible opinion man. She's pretty hilarious and probably the main reason I pop party chat. The rest of the party is admittedly pretty boring and one of the most boring casts I've played in an RPG.

Just finished the game...Man, what a crazy long game. Clocked in at 118 hours, mastering all classes for all characters. The difficulty level seems way easier, compared to the PSX version, that the last boss, wasn't as hard as he was in the original. Debating on doing the bonus stuff, but now, I can put this HUGGGGGEEE game to rest. Now onto DQVIII hopefully January 2017 :p

What am I supposed to do after going to
Grotto del Sugillo for the second time? After the guy in the coffin gives wolf boy the ability to talk.
Not sure where to go.
