So dragon quest 11 is going to be called Dragon quest 11 S on switch. Too bad I don't know Japanese, cause I have no idea what they are saying.

Loving this game. It feels so good to be back actually "playing" a game and having the story and gameplay as the focal points. I still haven't even finished "Act 1", can't wait to get home and keep going.

The only gripe I have is the absence of the Monster Arena :-(
It was one of my favorite things about DQ8.

This game, Skyrim and Witcher all remind me why in a PC gamer. We just have it better.
Well that depends, it great that PC gamers have mods that gives them lot of option but there are still games will not come out on PC like, Persona 5, Fist of the North Star, Kingdom Hearts 3, Catherine Full Body, Octopath, SMTV and Daemon X Machina. If I personally have to choose between these games and Mods then I have to go with games.

Well of course if you can own them all then that’s fantastic but unfortunately some people can’t (like me) so they have to make that choice.

Well I'm about 50 hrs in and having a great time. The gfx are great, I love the colors and style.

My girl loves the mermaids and got so sad for that story, and the queen was pretty. I just finished the Phnom Nonh bit. I used to have a very low tolerance threshold for dumping hrs into a game, I'd eventually just want it to end. But lately going through Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Nier Automata really helped cure me. Man I'm glad I can enjoy muh gaemes again.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'd say this is probably one of the best (if not, the best) JRPG this generation. I'm very picky when it comes to newer JRPGs and this JRPG didn't give me a "toxic" feeling (I got this feeling while playing Persona 5, it's good but I prefer 4 by a long shot).

Currently I'm at the position it's the best DQ game and one of SE's best offerings ever.

I’m caught up on my other games so I just bought this. I’m a huge JRPG fan, but this will somehow be my first DQ game.

I'm in the same boat. My love for JRPGs started late as I never owned a ps2 back in the day. I would say around 2007 I started playing JRPGS. Love them now.

Looking forward to playing Dragon Quest for the first time.

Yup better and costly too. As long as you loaded enough to upgrade your hardware every 2-3 years and okay to buy $60 digital game, why not? 4k/60 and moddable are what the matter most isn't it?

I'm sorry but thats not fucking fair, is it now....They released so close to Spider Man and in a time when everyone is high on Marvel. I personally chose DQXI over Spider Man but I'm in minority here.
But the article is not saying whether the game sold well or not. We'll have to wait and see. I personally think the the initial sales will disappoint Square, but I also think the game will have quite some legs. Word of mouth will help the game as it's getting praised almost everywhere. And to be fair, the praise is justified. The devs catched lightning in a bottle here. If you even remotely enjoy JRPGS, DQ11 is a true must have.

Its only a matter of time till they release the sells, I'm sure the game is doing fine since everyone has given it high scores, and its on PC and PS4. And coming to Switch. People also want turn based jrpgs, and there hasn't been any for a while now.

Oh I know the praise is justified, the games is fucking fantastic and so is Valkyria Chronicles 4 base on demo and most of the reviews but when they release so close to very high profile game then I get scared of these two games get overlooked. These games are too good get overlooked and then SE and SEGA suddenly decide not released the future games for the west.

Well, it's not in our hands. The only thing we can do is, telling people the truth on how good the game actually is. But if we're the minority and the majority decides to like spiderman more, we'll have to accept that. But I think the game (in the long run) will sell decent. Right now, DQ11 is my game of the year, even dethroning the also extremely, extremely good God of War. RDR2 really has to be playable crack to top that.

SE could have done more marketing for DQXI and better release window. Octopath manage sell well here exactly because it had perfect release window.

not sure how it will go down :D but so far 6 hours into it.

I'm not playing with any draconian quest options, but other than very early on I don't think buying gear is too important most of the time. There are only a couple instances (Mostly in the back half when progression isn't quite as linear as the first half) that you can buy things that are stronger than what you can craft in meaningful ways, but even then they're not a LOT stronger, just a little. For stronger monsters, from what I've heard it makes the first half of the game well balanced in terms of difficulty, but the bosses as you get into the second half can start to be a bit much with a high potential for RNG losses.

Either way, enjoy your trip! I'm like 64 hours in now and still loving it. I just realised/learned that you can do some creative manipulation of the skill grids to get access to later skills in certain skill trees and then refund points while keeping that access. Mostly as the grids expand in the second half, things like going through 1h swords or Greatswords on the hero to get the "later" Luminary skill panels, then you refund 1h or Greatswords while keeping the activated panel at the end of Luminary.

i already ran into a few challenging situations early on :D so its making me nervous that i might not manage it... but we will see.

in downtown i had trouble finding Holy water so i had to bribe the guard.
you could not buy it from the fortune teller.

We can let kids in 10 years decide if its the best of whatever. But one things for sure: DQXI perfectly encpsulates the JRPG genre. Which is fitting since Dragon Quest is the quintessential JRPG.

Ah, there was an alternate route if you explored the rafters above you would've eventually found a hole you could crawl through for free.

I think i saw that hole, but when i was there a boy was blocking it perhaps he goes away when the quest gets active... hmm didn't thought to recheck. however thanks for letting me know. - Sacrificed a lot of my items due to not wanting to grind 2000 gold :p, most noticeable was the gold necklace.

I'm not very far in but please tell me I'm not going to be fighting cucumbers and blue poop emojis, and smoke. Please tell me the monsters get way more interesting and cooler looking. I like the windwaker/pokemon leaving on a journey vibe early on, but I am kind of put off by how childish the monsters are. Or is the target demo for this game young kids?

I mean there's a fair bit of variety in the enemy appearance, but there's also a good bit of repaint as you progress. It's mostly a cartoony aesthetic though.

you are not even like 5 hours in the game and complaining? The monsters get harder and you are only fighting the like the beginning ones. Also the monster designs came from akira toriyama

Man, if the design looks too "childish" for you then just go play game that more realistic visuals that would make you feel more "grownup".

Dont worry, mostly of Dragon quest was launched to America and Europe in these 15 years, its hard to stop selling this I.P. only in Japan.

I dont think that the sells are bad, i see a lot of guys that are playing the game, and are more hype for the calification.

Honestly i have this game in my scope, more the limited edition, maybe i gonna pick it in november, or soon as possible

In this case it won't matter because Spider Man still going out sell DQXI. Marvel currently is even bigger than Star Wars.
only people with a PS4 can play Spiderman though, its not like anyone can play it. Anyone who has a PS4,PC, or switch can play dragon quest 11. Theres also people who don't own a PS4, so thats going to cause some less sells for Spiderman.

True but unfortunately interest for spider man is higher and there are people who own PS4 that only play COD, AC or any other latest AAA western games which most likely choose Spider Man over DQ. I want to be wrong and I hope I’m wrong. I want to see DQXI sell crazy well.

No PC gamer ever, EVER, pays more than $42 for a new release, unless they truely do not know how to shop.

don't know from what I remember there are some pretty rare pc games worth $60 or more, and some had like flight sticks or racing wheels.

playing this with the mod feels like having a tumor removed. what a world of difference

can't believe japanese audiences lap this up with no VA and shitty midi in 2018.

They didn't have the run button either. And they had a more cumbersome UI.

Hi – very interesting thread. Some folks are saying DQXI may be the greatest JRPG ever made while others are not impressed. I think we should all be open-minded. Not everyone has to like the game.

While I enjoyed the game (not as much as DQ VIII), I do have some disappointments that I want to share, after 80 hours into Draconian (stronger enemies) – level about 95ish for each character, in post-game but haven’t done anything in post-game.

Some things that I didn’t like very much:
1) OST – the world map themes gave me headaches. I played 80% of the game without music. DQ VIII world theme, battle theme, Peaceful town, and Town Night Theme 2 are singed into my memory, and I still remember these 12 years later. I don’t remember a single track in DQ XI, and I just played the game a week ago
2) Pep – the random nature of Pep ups. I probably used about 10 different Pep attacks / spells throughout my entire play. It was extremely rare for everyone to be Pepped at the same time without intentionally defending/passing up your turns. There’s almost no chance anyone would use all Peps without purposely aiming to do so. I prefer giving the player more control over these things, like limit breaks, for example (without the late-game Pep ups)
3) Story – this is the nature of DQ but I just realized I don’t enjoy it as much. There are too many text dialogues and too few “big-moment cut-scenes” where the game feeds you the story (via CGI), emphasizing key parts of your journey. You get to sit back and imagine a little. I remember like two cut scenes: that dude destroying that Lantern in the desert, and the “big” moment in the forest. There’s also way too many interruptions where you finish talking to a bunch of folks in a house, literally walk outside for another dialogue, and then walk 10 seconds for yet another talk. Ya’ll cool with this kind of story telling?
4) Maps – every dungeon / town / world map was already explored and fully labeled on the maps. It took away that sense of discovery that I think is important in JRPGs.
5) Characters – the only characters that showed solid personalities were Jasper, that wimpy prince (sand slayer area), sometimes Veronica? Minus the occasional speech and facial expression, everyone else just seemed mellow and indifferent. I remember Jessica and Yangus more than these DQ XI characters, though that may just be nostalgia
6) Supply management – there was no challenge in this area? With campfires littered everywhere, your party did not have to worry about running out of potions, antidotes, MP for healing, etc. Why would anyone use the item to cast Zoom when Zoom is pretty much unlimited, for example? A lot of items were pointless (e.g. I did not buy healing or status items after a couple of hours)

These are some my comments after playing the game, and I’d be happy to receive feedback from others.

Back with more mod stuff, figured i'd try making an OP here for what I'm doing

This is an ALTERNATIVE music mod that works in conjunction with the "Orchestral Music Mod" (you must have that installed first)
The aim is to create alternative tracks from youtube videos you can use in the game to replace the default tracks.

First thing I'll be doing is creating a bunch of alternative tracks for battle music, then overworld/traveling music, and then a music switching script that will change audio tracks when you change areas.

First up

ALTERNATIVE BATTLE MUSIC FOR DRAGON QUEST XI (For Orchestral Music mod)

Octopath Traveler - Tension

Nice. The Orchestral music has turned the game from a a 4/5 to a 5/5 for me.
