What do you all think of the Magick Archer? I'm leveling up Fighter right now, then gain a few levels in Assassin for STR and STM increases. I played Assassin on PS3/360 and thought that was a really fun class.

Magick Archer is god mode for BBI. Absolutely destroys.

It also has a neat ability where you can shoot a ball of light to light up areas and damage undead enemies.

Bitter Black Island is the most evil place in RPG history.

I love the place.

While it is pretty nasty it doesn't have traps every two fucking millimeters so it's not as evil as Durlag's Tower (Baldur's Gate 1 expansion). Those ridiculously OP giant dogs that show up randomly after killing enemies are the worst.

But yeah the density of that place is so much more interesting than the open world. It makes it hard to just suck it up and go back to the main storyline, but I'm not going to get much farther in BBI as a low level so I might as well.

Hey everyone, I'm super early in the game still (just got to Gran Soren) and changed my vocation to assassin. What skills should I be investing in most? Should I be using Daggers in stead of a Sword? Should I invest in shield skills, or just focus on my bow?

Lastly, are there certain pawn vocations that are more appropriate to have based on your character's chosen vocation? My created pawn in a Strider, and I'm still using a pawn I automatically received at the beginning of the game (he's a Mage named Rook).

On another note, I started a random escort quest from the bounty board in the Gran Soren Inn and I completely forgot about it. The guy I'm escorting is a lot higher level than me, and I've been going into areas I'm clearly not strong enough for, and he's been good enough to allow my group to survive. I even beat a Cave troll lol (though there are two more in the area I was in)!

Take your pick, any you like.

Striders are generally good pawns to have, but mages are great too.

Most will say use whatever weapons you like. Assassin gets skills for all 4 of those weapons (including the shield). I personally use the dagger and bow. Its great damage, fast paced combat with some good ranged options as needed.

Support mage pawn is nice for melee classes but you can use anything for your own pawn and rent the classes you need. I'd drop rook soon and use some gaf pawns for your two pawn slots.

Thanks for the advice! Would you happen to have any advice on if I should be investing my money into buying weapons and items for my character and pawns, or should I focus on finding those in the field? Lastly, how important is it for me to keep my pawn's equipment upgraded?

How do I find the Gaf pawns? Are there links in this thread?

You'll find good stuff in the field, only start upgrading when you feel like you are hitting a wall.

Can I play NG+ on easy mode or is it like the Souls games?

I already placed a crystal infront of Grigori's place. how many mandatory quests I need to do before fighting him again?

pleas tell me that BBI weapons aren't that expensive -__-

They cost RC to decurse, so it depends on how well your pawn is being rented. The weapons sold range from anywhere from 50k gold up to around 3 million gold.

True. Durlag's Tower was quite something.Especially when party max level is 8-10 and you face many high level threats.

I've done the hand in idol quest with the bronze idol. Can I still give the silver idol to caxton? Do I have to sell it to him or something?

Just switch whenever you want to change your playstyle. Your basic staff skills carry over to those classes too.

you will get more crystals as you progress in the story, they are usually in big story points. I have 4 now, theres only 5 anyway as far as I know (in a new game at least)

you need to rest at a inn for your pawn to update and be "rentable"

Thanks! Still not sure about changing vocations.. I think I'll wait until I hit max mage vocation since there's only one more to go but not sure where to go from there. Can I still use my staff on a new vocation and put new skills on a secondary weapon to start? Or use my staff as secondary? I also don't really have any weapons for the other classes.

Check the icons, they'll tell you which class uses what.
You can use the staff on MK and MA as well, but they don't have access to all the spells, becaues that would make mage obsolete.

Are people killing my pawn?
she keeps coming back with 3 star ratings, and has dropped from 5 stars overall to 4 stars now :'[.

Be kind to pawns people.

They'd be hard pressed to kill your pawn lol. Someone must be throwing her off a cliff or something. Rude.

Am i the only one experiencing framerate drops to the low 40s? I have a GTX970 8gb ram and an FX8350 @4.5ghz

That seems to be pretty common with that cpu. If you want more stable framerate try dropping the view distance. It gets pretty costly especially around gran soren.

Any time a pawn dies, they are sent away with 3 stars as the default. Only way to rate them is by dismissing them.

So people might be getting rid of your pawn by tossing them in the drink, or they've taken them into BBI and Death is insta-killing them.

Yeah, or they simply don't realise that finishing the main quest with pawns actually "kills" them in the eyes of the server.

Oh, no. Don't think I have you on my list, actually.

Add me and I'll give you some stars:

Yeah I know, I make it a point to run from death if I have no means to effectively fight him, heck I don't take other pawns with me at all if I'm hunting death.

Saw this on the DD Wiki:
Caution Do not gift more than 10 items or equipment at a time. Although it is possible to equip 12 pieces of equipment to a Hired Pawn and gift 1 item, the gifting limit is 10 items.

If the limit is exceeded all gifted items will be lost, no Rift Crystal gained from the rent, and a 3/3/3 review given.

Maybe you are getting too much gifts? XD

what are rift crystals for anyway? I got a ton now

Decided to just roll on to New Game+.

This time I'm doing all of the side-quests for the Hero achievement. Shouldn't take very long at all with port-crystals all over the world.
