Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen PC |OT| Wolves hunt in 4K

My favorite vocations are

1. Warrior
2. Mystic Knight
3. Magick Archer

Edit: I take that back. Mystic Knight is number 1... Warrior would be number 1 if it could use 6 abilities.

drake on final bar, just anothr volley or two of Sixfold shot

i get a tail to the face

i'm having trouble getting back to that situation, mostly because i accidentally did the dragon flies away exploit

I wish they retained your equipment set, though. And maybe even offer just rolling with your currently equipped armour if it can be worn by the vocation you switched to because it's kind of a hassle having to re-equip stuff all the time. Not a huge problem but would've been a neat little thing to add in the second re-release of this game.

Yeah I agree, it's strange that they ask you if you want to "change" your equipment after changing vocations when at that point you're not actually wearing anything anymore. Saying no to the question just ends up with the arisen in their underwear.

Alright, just accepted the first quest after
Wyrm Hunting
. About how far am I through the main story?
Probably the 50%-60% mark if we're talking just raw main story without post-game and BBI. Also, be sure to roam about a bit and look for side-quests, though. You only get a limited time to do them and progressing through the story can lock you out of quest chains. The wikia has a spoiler-ish write-up of side-quests and when they are (un)available, but read it at your own risk. Seeing that page made me abandon my ~20h character in favour of completionist neuroticism and start a new save.

Yeah, this game is so unforgiving for the completionists, so many missable things. But it's kinda normal in JRPGs though. Sometimes I forget that this is a Japanese game.

Thanks guys. I've been doing a ton of side quests too but I was just wondering if I was making a dent in the story.

Thinking about BBI is souring me on the rest of the game lol. Its that good. Im not sure if thats a good thing or not.

And I loved the main game, dont get me wrong. But yeah, BBI is making me wish it was all like BBI. Its so tight (from what I've seen so far) compared to vanilla. I mean, when people though DD would be like the Souls games and then it wasnt, BBI is probably the game those people imagined. It almost feels like its from a different team.

Then again I did say as I was playing that the game needed more places like the Catacombs so I was already feeling like that. BBI really blew my expectations tho.

How are people going about the route to dlc?

I am up to the final mission - should I finish before heading to the Isle?

Just used Holy Furor for the first time. Wow

Kinda useless since it drains the entire party's stamina, but at least it looks awesome!

Sure. Finishing the game
doesnt actually finish the game.

that's the magic of dragon's dogma- it manages to perfectly capture the feeling of an adventure out in the world in the same way a d&d session does (or the way the lord of the rings/hobbit movies do) while also having BBI to account for the dungeon diving aspect of very tight design/enclosed spaces and whatnot

that the game is a "30%" game is pretty notable once you've drained the game dry of content to do but man holy shit it does that stuff well.

also to note iirc BBI/dark arisen's team actually was different from the vanilla game's team. the director isn't itsuno and is the guy who is currently head of dragon's dogma online and the design guys credited are different too

I think that stuff is a tad obnoxious, to be honest. I mean I love this game a whole lot, but I wish it made that stuff a bit more clear to the player. It's nice to have some obscure side-quests like the one with the female bandit camp or those in The Abbey you might only catch upon replay, but stuff like locking yourself out of a fair share of the Witchwood quests just because you happen to do that first Pawn Guild task (which you are immediately given as part of the main story, even) a bit too early reeks of intransparent quest triggers that fuck you over with no warning.

What I do like about that system is that it at least makes the world feel more alive and independent. If, for example, Quina just
waited in the Witchwood to be rescued
for the entirety of the main story until you, the player, feel like taking on that quest it would make it feel more like the world just exists for you. Kind of Dark Souls in that way.

Do it. You can play BBI after the final mission and
you'll just start post-game which makes the world look fucking awesome.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Scored a platinum with zero help from anywhere and got all the quests done on the 1st run as well. I did not please Symone enough to get the gold Idol (or indeed, know she had it available), but I fixed that on my first NG+.

I am admittedly pretty OCD with stuff like that and roamed all the places I considered key locations pretty often when I became aware that someone habited the place, but there is nothing terribly obscure about getting them all done. People just need to learn to listen and read when the game is trying to tell you something.

Oh shit it actually was a different team? Heh I was only half-serious.

Let them do DD2 then :p

Man, I am getting the shittiest of shit drops in BBI. Every piece of gear I picked up today is substantially worse than the gear I'm already rolling with, and I'm still stuck with the dragon items you get from being D1. The 1 good weapon I've gotten was for a warrior, so my pawn is rocking it.

I was hoping I'd have better daggers or a better magic bow by now. No luck at all...

I got the Gold Idol first try, but I hate that kid so I got her dad convicted so she has to live in the slums. Stupid spoiled brat.

I dont have any hopes of replacing those weapons on my magick archer tbh.

Where has the mod scene for this game started to gather? I was just curious if some quality of life mods were available or in development. Specifically I'd love to make item forgeries instant to prevent all the pointless running back to the inn. Also I wouldn't mind a faster stamina regen mod. I know there's one to remove sprint stamina completely, but I think that's too far into the realm of straight up cheating. I'd love it if it just replenished faster, preferably only outside of combat.

I did all the quests except I forgot to buy stuff from Reynard and missed out on that one smh

Warrior only has 3 abilities? Whaaaaaaaaaa

Also Magick Archer isn't as cool as I thought it would be. Sunburst dagger strike thing is awesome but I found Strider Archery to be more fun.

Also the last of the 4 quests the Duke's Captain gave me is annoying, I'm supposed to find the courier near the Fountain Square but there isn't a marker anywhere? Also escort quests suck for a variety of reasons.

That's a weird thing anyway since you have to perform ten completely separate transactions. It's not enough to just buy ten items in one go, you have to have bought something and fully quit out of the dialogue ten times for it to count. Given the fact that Reynard's stuff isn't that useful and most of the time you don't even know where he is it's easy to miss that trigger.

But luckily that's effectively just one quest, not a longer chain you miss. Still means you miss out on the achievement for all quests, if you care. At least if you don't make up for it in NG+.

Thanks for people who used pawn. It helped me get the last RC I needed to wrap up Rowsdower.

I am now 110% done with Dragon's Dogma. Rowsdower is now decked out in Hellfire set (with Blasphemer's Cloak for color difference, and Dragonwing Circlet so the face can be seen), all gold dragonforged.

Time to finally move onto something else...until the itch returns.

Coat of Oblivion, Hellfire Cloak, Framae Blades... nice.

Love playing this game and messing around with stuff. Currently experimenting with Assassin abilities (lately, Invisibility). Never actually played Mystic Knigth because I couldn't get into it the first time, but all the positive feedback here is really making me want to try it out. I guess I just feel weird when not playing classes with long range.

BBI is sure the best part of the game but I liked the open world map too. Best DD experiences I had was getting ambushed by Griffins or Chimeras at night or at the worst possible moments, or when night is coming and you're still far from Gran Soren (this was more with vanilla when you didn't had the infinite teleport stone).

The bad part is that when you're high level it becomes useless, and also enemy places being fixed hurts too. If they could make the big bosses scale with your level and make enemies have more randomized patterns it would be more interesting IMO.

2 questions:

1.
I accidentally accepted an escort quest and it's honestly too hard for me. Can I quit the quest and pick it up from the notice board once I'm strong enough? Or does the quest fail for good?

2. Whenever I start the game it says "starting in offline mode". Why is that? I have also never come across any of my friend's pawns. When I'm in the rift, searching for friend's pawns or highly ranked pawns in general is greyed out. How can I be online and have access to other customized pawns? I also want my pawn to be available to everyone.

Oops, poor Lady Konzo got petrified in BBI.... xD I re-hired her and dismissed her with a gift, hope you still got some decent ratings.

I am rotating out GAF pawns... but no one on GAF is hiring me. ;_; I guess my pawn is probably OP for most of you guys and too weak for those late into BBI.

I didn't remember that in BBI
Death shows up so early? He was right in the first big room, the one with a gorechimera. And it wasn't after I killed the monster either, he showed up right away. From my recollection he only appeared like, after the evil eye thing.

Also got a Garm showing up while I was fighting the Cockatrice, but it got petrified, and I insta-killed it. xD Got all its loot too!

Also I tried the online Ur-Dragon just for kicks. Hmmmm nope. Not even making the slightest dent. It's only generation 18 too. Sigh. Fuck this thing.

Time for some random cool shit you may have not noticed:

Someone here mentioned that a Warrior can just bash the shit out of the mining nodes and pick up the ores from the ground instead of picking at them with pickaxes, making the process much faster. But a Sorcerer can do AoE mining! Some of the Sorc spells, mainly Bolide and Seism, have a powerful physical component to them. Those big-ass explosions do the same thing as Warriors weapons.

I seem to remember you could also repeat the feat by chucking an explosive barrel at the nodes.
Yup. I was curious and tried it, after reading about the greatswords smashing them, and it worked. Pretty cool.

  1. I'm afraid you can't. Or at least, I don't know how. But when I was caught in a similar situation I just did a mad dash to the quest goal ignoring the actual NPC and just hoped for the best. Worked out. They get teleported back to you after a while. So I guess just do a backup save and haul ass, set pucker level to max and hope the NPC survives until they get warped to you. Check KainXVIII's post below.
  2. You just have to set online connectivity back to "Online" in the Options > Gameplay options. I think if the game loses connection to the server once, it sets that to offline and keeps it that way until you reset it manually.

I think it's around level 78? I honestly forgot... He's a sorcerer at the moment. Pawn name is Servilius.

Oh I forgot to check if the inclination is still OK. They got fucked up at some point and he had Nexus as secondary, WTF? I fixed it to Scather/Challenger, hopefully it remained stable.

You can cancel escort quests from notice boards and take them later.

Ok, so I just
killed the dragon
how much more Dragon's Dogma do I have to play? Hearing about
"the post game" and BBI and seeing so many "unknown enemy" listings in my pawns bestiary
makes me feel like there is a lot left. I love this game and never want it to end.

Post-game itself isn't that much. It's a good chunk but not like ~20h or something. BBI is fairly long, though. Just make sure to not accidentally end the game and miss out on BBI. Since I'm not really done with BBI myself yet I can't say how long it'll last you exactly, but I already spent more than ~30h with this game after doing the """final""" mission.

Just making sure, but if a pawn dies while on a quest (fell of the ledge) everything I have on him automatically goes back to my bank/storage right ?

Currently cheesing the fuck out of the gorecyclops in Midnight helix/BBI lol. I've managed to get it thinking that I'm mounted on its back so it's just trampling the same spot and trying to shake me off. Only 5 more health bars/probably 10 minutes to go.

omg I just beat an Ancient Dragon

Such a looooong fight. Went through 3 wakestones, 50 potent greenwarish, 20 large mushrooms. Had absolutely fuck all for the last 2 health bars. I managed to cling to its heart and my main pawn goes down but I held on for dear life impotently slashing away at its chest so I could get a stun. Finally did, picked him up, jumped back on and on the next stun he wiped it out.

These strong BBI enemies are starting make me feel like shit. All the damage is coming from my pawn when he can finally fully enchant a spell. The damage that my arrows and bow are doing are pretty much imperceptible ;_;

Most stuff in BBI is weak to holy, so taking a mage along with you that will give you that enchant will help with Gorecyclops (among many other BBI critters).

It's a scaling issue with how defense handles damage output. Effectively since the game has the ability to negate damage, certain enemy defenses can negate all damage if your output isn't high enough. Once you get some BBI gear, particularly weapons, most enemies just fall over to the extra damage output. Not a bad idea to farm a bit for a BBI Level 2 Weapon and then dragonforging/rarefying it. Makes the rest of the content pretty reasonable (though even with the best armor in the game it's difficult to mitigate enemy damage output, since they'll always outclass your defense stat, even at max level).

edit: Whoops... double post, sorry!
