So is blocking just useless in this game? My guard gets crused like every time I try to block.

Absolutely not, though it is recommendable to try to go for those perfect/just blocks to get that extra oomph to them. Similar to souls, your total stamina, the shield you're using and even your augments modify what you can and cannot block.

Get better shields and/or upgrade them.

For you.
I was having that issue when ever Id use a ENB, every since I defeated that hydra, my frame rate dropped to the 20's. Uninstalled the ENB and its presets and now its back to normal.

Even ogres can't fucks with me and my ban hammer of justice.

I saw your post about Shadowplay. How do you bind a controller button to it? I'm trying on the Shadowplay settings but no luck.
There is a red version of that hood, complete with matching leg parts, also much better stats.
Doesn't that one cover the face though? That'd be a shame for cutscenes but otherwise it does look great, I will look into getting that one.

Anyone else getting tons of weird polygons when using Gedosato? It's the same effect as if your card is overheating or something (it's not)

Need help here... looks like SweetFX isn't working. I installed the files here:

Mz0aHmg.png

I get an error message at startup saying that compiling failed.

Which preset?
Open the SweetFX_settings.txt file on the sweetfx folder, and check if it actually contains the settings. One of the presets just give you another download link for the actual preset inside that file. I came across one, in fact.

No, you get the first spell level and the high version from ranking up in a vocation. You get the grand version from a ring in BBI.

I.E. Bolide (Sorcerer rank 6) -> High Bolide (Sorcerer Rank 8) -> Grand Bolide (certain rings from BBI).

Note: there are rings in BBI that increase other skills to a third level. I.E. Scarlet Kisses -> Hundred Kisses -> Thousand Kisses.

However, not all skills have a third ability level.

THIS! THIS!

I was thinking high not grand.

Somebody give this man a star sticker!

I have a couple beginner-ish questions. In terms of progress I've got to Gran Soren, and did the quest in the Pawn Legion basement, and I've leveled the first 10 levels as a Mage, and the next 7 as a Magick Archer.

1. My frame-rate is pretty rough. I've got a Radeon 7870 and a Core 2 Quad Q6600. I assume it's my ancient processor, but I've played a lot of "last-gen" ports just fine, so any suggestions regarding the most taxing settings would be appreciated.

2. How do I know if enemies are too difficult in an area, or I just need to get good? I skipped doing the early quest investigating the healer's disappearance in the starting village the Witchwood, as I thought I was barely damaging the enemies along the way, but then after progressing the story in Gran Soren a bit, the quest became unavailable.

This game has me by the balls. DAMN it is so good. It's like playing an MMO, but offline and without the other annoyances that come with having to deal with large groups of people having to do one thing.

The game has musical ques when you're REALLY in over your head. There are two music tracks that essentially say "Pretty fucking hard fight ahead" and "This is the time to run, so fucking RUN!". But those bandits are beatable right after you receive that quest. You only need to target the weaker ones first and then gank the tougher, shield bearing bandits with all 4 of you. Even chip damage is damage, if you can stum-lock the shitheads. You can also just grab the fuckers and hurl them over the edges instead of trying to carve them with knives.

Went exploring past Gran Soren for the first time... started killing lady bandits, then killed all of them in their base. Their ogre was crippled by arrows, falling from the cliffside to its unfortunate demise

Immediately went to take on a chimera for the first time in pitch black conditions, got it close to dead only to be one-shotted by the snake

This game rules.

Also, Full Bend is so much fun!

I have a slightly factory overclocked 7870, paired with a PhenomII x4 cpu, and yeah my PC is struggling to get stable 60fps. It's doing a much better job with MGS V TPP, which is a totally new game. Regardless, it's still a good port.

I'm around 37 and decided to try my luck in bitterblack isle for fun...surprisingly I'm able to kill things no problem in the opening areas. Haven't found any cursed weapons yet though...guessing those are way further in?

All random, it seems. The trash mobs are pretty easy compared to the late-game stuff starting off. I got my ass handed to me multiple times by the
cyclops that is chained up
, finally had to just leave and move on to other things since I couldn't even scratch him with the group I had.

Played through the main story, forgot it wasn't too terribly long, have started back over on hard mode. Should move along more quickly since I have portcrystals set up all over the place already. Game is so much more enjoyable when it doesn't struggle to maintain 20fps the entire time.

Can someone tell me what us up with these bandits in this first area? They seem way to strong unless if I'm doing something wrong. There are three of them, ones with daggers, others with bows, and these unkillable monsters with swords and shields.

I can take out the first two types just fine but then I'll lose a third a health to these shield dudes. I can understand if they're tanks or something but they seem woefully unbalanced to me. Of course, I could of missed something but it doesn't seem right.

If you find yourself having trouble with the bandits, run past them. The place where you're probably headed to is actually easier than those bandits.

What's your vocation?
If you have a shield, just block their attack and counter or use the shield slam skill to open their guard, it's the easiest way to kill them if you're a shield-wielding vocation. Other than that, try to run around them and attack from behind, or use certain skills as some of the skills bypass shield block. You can also grab them and let your pawn(s) do the killing, or just throw them off cliffs. Lots of options, actually. Focus on the non shield bandits first.

In the beginning of the game, yea, but around halfway, to late game, Ice and Holy becomes the dominant elements.

You know, now that I think about it, I don't remember anything being weak to darkness. Thunder can be pretty useful no matter what point in the game you're at, but darkness...

I guess I'll try to get around behindbehind them. I'm a strider by the way and I appreciate the help!

It just feels so damn awkward and frustrating that I can clear out 8 bandits but two guys with swords just murder me and my whole party. I guess what I'm getting at is that it feels odd that not all of the bandits are this hard in their party.

Are there more groups of mobs like this where some are really easy to take down but a single mob or two can easily cut you down?

I started on hard and that shield asshole would one shot you if you took even a glancing bow when I went through there. I was a fighter, and just had to beat it into my head to keep my guard up, wait for him to attack, and pop off a few quick hits after. I was pretty much able to take out the knife guys with a few hits, so I cleared the trash before I squared off with those guys.

Yeah, in varying ways. If you see someone casting a spell, for example, letting them get it off is a sure-fire way to get murdered. Also, bandits with two-handed swords will wreck your face.

There is one very major figure in the game that is weak to the dark element. And it totally makes sense when you know the whole story.

Apparently you cant start in hard mode anymore? The option is grayed out?

Just remember, undeads can also wield shields.

Are you talking about
the Seneschal
? I guess that makes sense, never tried it though.

If you've already made a game it'll be grayed out. Load your game and select hard to switch to hard mode(it'll restart your game from the beginning).

Try different pawns. That can make all the difference.

When your looking for a pawn to hire, check out their stats before you hire them. No two pawns are alike. So that means there's gonna be good pawns and there's gonna be bad pawns.

As you can see, this pawn is a mage and they have very high magic and magic defence but poor physical defense, so it's not a great idea to bring a mage to a group of bandits where they will close the distance and deal a lot of damage to her.

If your going up against a group of bandits, then you may wanna have more melee characters that can take some beatings and give em back just as well and that can take aggro off you. Like having two fighters pawns, and a healer pawn, plus you if your a melee type, or three melee pawn if you're a mage yourself.

This game really need a quick save functionality and a dedicated map button so I can bind it to the controller.

I keep hitting M on the keyboard thinking it'll bring the map up to no avail.

And yeah, a dedicated quick save would be really, really handy.

I think I've finally got my Sweetfx/GeDoSaTo settings sorted out.

Looks fine at night too, especially with the deband shader on.

This looks near identical to how mine looks right now lol. Mine is a bit less saturated, but otherwise spot on.

You know, Grigori, God's chosen messenger and the chooser of his successor. He is, essentially, an angel, much like his name would suggest.
