Enjoying the 2tb hdd on PS5PRO did people forget about that in pricing?

the thing is that because it is so easy to add an SSD the 2TB do not really matter as much as it would for example on the XBox with its insane prices for adding storage.
I am sure that if Sony would have shipped the Pro with only 1TB but would make the Pro like 50-100 Dollar / Euro cheaper, the uproar would not be as bad as it is now. It is a difference if you make the upgrade mandatory instead of letting the people upgrade whenever they want.

The difference between 1tb and 2tb for Sony for a mass produced console is probably peanuts. Instead of 'giving value' of greater storage, I personally would have preferred the drive included with 1TB, and let the user buy more storage if need be. Or hell, make it 2tb with drive and stand for $699, now we're getting somewhere.

Yeah was pretty cool on launch day ro just rack up loads of downloads and just watch them all complete. Added an extra tb from my old Phat . Excellent. Especially with COD game size.

I now have 4tb on my Pro and I'm loving it. OG PS5 SSD is too small if you don't slot in an expansion for people who game regularly.

What does vanilla offer, like 667.2GB of usable space? That's too low. Especially because you don't really wanna fill it completely up as the only and the OS SSD. Pro keeps you from having to buy that expansion ssd.

It ads value but in a way that not everyone cares about.
Personally I don't care about getting 2TB since I've never had any storage capacity issues on my base Ps5. A 2tb drive doesn't feel like it's adding value to the console for me, it feels like it's increasing the price with a feature that I don't care about.

If there was a $600 version with a 1TB drive (or even just the same 825gb as the base one) I'd be more tempted to buy one

2tb is fine really. My launch PS5 has an 1tb NVME, so its approx 1.8tb total and Its enough for me so far. If i'd buy the Pro I would be set with the 2tb + my extra 1. But I would prefer an 1tb Pro for like 600 bucks probably.

The base PS5 had only 800GB for it's first 3 years so most people bought add on SSD storage. Most people who are upgrading from an amateur PS5 to the pro couldn't give less of a fuck it now has more internal storage

If the pro is your first PS5 I guess it's good unless you also want to use discs in which case you have to spend another $100 to get a disc drive and then the extra storage value is cancelled out by the cost of the disc drive

Yeah I would recommend anyone with a PS5 to buy at least an external SSD for all your PS4 content. That way, the internal space is exclusively used for PS5 apps.

Yeah the 2tb is a nice addition. Like most folks in this thread though who added more storage, I just added a 4tb nvme to my base model and moved it to my slim and now pro. I don't really register it since I don't have to purchases a proprietary device (storage card).

I was more shocked by the inclusion of the extremely high quality support pillars they included with the Pro. Sure, I expected them to include those with the Slim...but GD Sony treating us like royalty including these with the Pro!!

shoulda spent extra money on power. you can always upgrade hdd space. come on....
Their games are still going to be strapped to the OG PS5 and I'm sure they considered that. Sure, more power would mean better frames, but that would have come at an additional cost. Imagine the uproar of a $8-900 box just for a faster graphics card than the already much faster one in the Pro!

Unless their stance has changed since the PS4 Pro, I don't imagine games being built on the PS5 Pro and ported down. I wish it worked that way, but I also remember that my needs are minority. As a 3090 Ti owner, I'd love for games to be built around that as a base, but that's not realistic.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Nah.....my biggest gripe about the thing is 2TB over including the drive. I had no issues with space on my og PS5. I'd go back to 1 TB and not think twice about it.

Yep, I think it's a safe bet more people would have preferred a disc drive at the same price point instead of the extra 1TB. Would have made that price a bit easier to digest for them.

It's funny Series X digital with 2tb drive is 600$ and I feel like the 2tb drive is completely glossed over anytime anyone brings up price 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ I was having to delete games to make room for psvr2 and now I have 17 games installed and still a terabyte of free space 😀

Anyone who needed more than 1TB on their PS5 Pro probably already had an expansion drive in their base PS5 that they could easily switch over.

I'd rather the thing had 1TB and shipped with the disc drive for the same price.

More than likely. I didn't see anyone clamoring for more drive space on PS5 especially considering one of the best things about the PS5 was the non-proprietary SSD expansion. Sony basically solved a problem no one seemed to have.

I agree here...ish (based on use case).

I have a large amount of storage in my main PS5 since I can play it offline. I have several of PS5's and that's the only way I can play my games if another one is in use. So I fill the console up with PS4 and PS5 games just in case I wanna play something without needing to be 100% online.

Eh, I certainly didn't like the idea of having to buy additional storage. I was one of few, apparently, that welcomed a 2TB console.

It was rough going from a PC with 6TB worth of NVMe goodness to a measly sub 825GB NVMe that would fill up very quickly. The $150-250 extra I'd spend on another drive was solved with the Pro and one of the big reasons the $700 price was a non-factor.

I totally get and respect that and its for sure I would expect a very popular view. But I'm digital only and I actually really welcomed the 2tb. I'm one of these weirdo's who likes installing their full current library installed. And my 4tb internal M2 was nearly full. So I loved, not that they ditched the drive (others would use it) but that they did give me more storage flexibility. On my OG PS5 I only ever used the drive once and it was just to test it worked.

Honestly, $700/£700 with a 2TB hard drive AND disc drive would have been fine.

In reality it’s $800/£800 though.

Plus, that 2TB Series X is extremely overpriced to begin.

50 bucks of added value isn't worth mentioning really, when the entire system is 300 bucks more than the base model launched at in the US, and ~400 more outside of the US

I can buy a 4TB Samsung M.2 SSD, which would give me 5TB total storage on my current PS5, and still don't fill that price gap

Well i am downloading my games to it right now and i still have 600 gigs left. To me this is big as i am a lazy cunt who canr be bothered upgrading the ssd on my old ps5 .

And its soo much quiter , just for that its worth every penny

They made the right choice. I did not buy more space, I re-downloaded as needed.

Will do the same with Pro but now I have 3x the space. Nice.

70% of game sales are digital these days so the drive doesn’t provide value to most of the audience. Those that buy a pro are more likely to be digital only as well

Disc owners can spend money for an optional accessory without forcing it needlessly on the rest of the user base

What time is it?
Yeah I could see where those would suck, just would of liked to see options to let gamers pick which was more important to them.

I bought the disc drive but would not have bought the extra SSD space

I bet Sony has all the market research in the world behind the decision and we are the vocal minority. Plus, I'm assuming an additional 1TB of storage is more costly than the drive would be.

Those are still a thing?

You must not be a Comcast customer. Without paying $30 a month or renting one of their modems, you get on average between 39-42 GB per day. For reference, my plan is $65 a month and I'd rather deal with managing my data than the cost of unlimited.

Yep, that’s the issue. Most folks who are buying Pro already have a PS5. These customers probably already purchased secondary NVME.

So it’s kind of a forced unnecessary spend.

Edit: Good point on data caps. Got Verizon fiber and fiber was a hard requirement for me when I was buying my house.
