I only got "good" at the Civ games when I started playing multiplayer.

But if you don't really enjoy the gameplay then there's no reason to go good I guess.

I should love CIV and grand strategy games in general.

I can't tell you how many games of Risk I played as a kid. But there are just so many rules to these games I just end up getting lost.

Same kind of thing happens in RTS games, I'll focus on either the base building or sending a squad out to kill but I can't multitask both. My brain just doesn't work like that I think.

I haven't tried a tutorial. What I did in the past was just put it on the easiest difficulty and the smallest map size with the in-game instructions on. it didn't help much

I don't really have the time now though. the full time school/full time work hustle is all consuming

Civ has never been that type of game, even Alpha Centauri wasn't that type of game.

BE wasn't as much of a leap as I wanted it to be, but I still played it quite a bit and there are great things there.

If you ever try it again, just follow along with a YouTube tutorial, it's much better than the in game stuff.

I remember playing civ 2 when I was little and I learned the hard way that rushing the Great Wall instead of anything else is a poor way to deal with barbarians

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV and Master of Orion were my TBS jams as a kid (and I think my first strategy games).

We rented ROTTK4 from Blockbuster when I was like -- 11 or 12 or whatever -- not even really being sure what the fuck it was, but we figured it out and ended up playing it hours on end.

Yes, they are fucking amaaaaazing. Insanely complex though. Managing contracts for MS r&doing, guiding the wars, trying to keep peace between earth and space dwellers, managing resources transported amongst colonies, etc. They're exhaustive.

I don't understand the outrage over Avril. Her stuff doesn't seem any more dumb than a lot of the other shit out there. I think she's cute. I like sk8r boi.

edit: er, she married nickelback, which is really disgusting, but other than that I don't hate her

edit2: I love her sk8er boi performance on letterman, especially because of how creepy letterman acts at the end
