Damn, what got up Float's butthole today.

boredom and sexual frustration mainly

in all seriousness though, I don't care about this too much. Peoiple can do whatever they want so long as it doesn't get in my way. I'm just kind of puzzled by the phenomenon.

so she didn't have dave matthews?

actually I don't think she was ever into it. She was big into Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, NiN, Soundgarden, etc etc.

All I wanted to do was hear some Pump up the Volume!

okay you were right about the good music

I was just making a joke based on your music, specifically hootie and having things called "jock jams".

I was very sheltered and very geeky as an adolescent. Nothing about me was cool. I wore sweatpants to school.

I started out school that way. Up to the a certain point the only music I listened too was Simon and Garfunkel and I had zero care about what I wore or how I presented myself. Always read a book instead of wanting to interact with anyone else.

I'm also glad we all got over the idea of "Pop-Punk" as a slur at some point.

funny thing is i used to think of emo as a slur and didn't want my FOB and Paramore associated with it :p (also i didn't knwo JEW was emo at the time)

gotta say. I really enjoy arguments about nothing

That's why Seinfeld is so popular right?

Also ya, I used to jealously guard my favorite music from being labeled Emo even though they were emo (well, post-hardcore but whateves), getting confused when people called Tegan and Sara pop music, and just generally being a poophead about that stuff. I wonder if kids these days (I'm old) feel the same way.

I'm not sure if genres have names these days

its like
indie/hipster music
pop
rap
hip hop
I guess electronic based music is disputed since it made its way into pop and there was stuff like dubstep that were awful
oh and country but everyone can agree that real country died years ago

also i guess its just a matter when bands stop being indie and start being pop

I'm being a total shill for Valve right now in my research paper

Working at Valve means that instead of receiving a desk and a set of instructions from a manager the employee instead does not have a manager (Knight, 2012). In the employee handbook at Valve it explains that having a traditional hierarchy is great for maintaining predictability, repeatability and managing large amounts of people (Knight, 2012). However, the way Valve sees it is that by telling an employee to sit behind a desk and do one specific task it robs ninety-nine percent of the employee’s value (Knight, 2012).

considering you said shill I'm assuming you didn't mention how the free for all increases the time it takes projects to get done(HL3) and prevents undesirable jobs ever from being filled(customer service)? :p

Wasn't there some article a while back about how horrible it was being a grunt at valve

but there isn't any grunts at valve, they're all equal :)

my paper is about the pros and cons of a flat organizational structure.

Valve is a pretty good example of this I think in both regards.

gonna get to the cons later

it sounds like valve is best at cramming random employees into a sardine can and telling them to get stuff done while they don't have room to move their elbows.

I'm going to make it mine
Yes I'll make it all mine

I've done nothing today. I put together a spreadsheet/email about how the stuff I do was the best it's ever been last month and then sat here staring blankly at my computer.

I actually do like the idea of that sort of structure. just not on that scale. its weird to me that a company like that is handling a large marketplace storefront

there are several large companies that utilize a flat or non-hierarchal structure. W.I. Gore for example has 10,000 employees.

see: https://hbr.org/2013/11/hierarchy-is-overrated/?

I guess more specifically its also related to the reports i've read on valve that i find concerning. it very much sounds like work on whatever you feel like and work however you feel like which doesn't work if everyone is acting as individuals which is sorta how it sounds

the W.I. Gore's style seems pretty good. it actually reminds me of some of the work places I've worked in (I've actually mentioned that my current place doesn't entirely have management and at one point definitely didn't)

The latest Skeptic's Guide to the Universe podcast has a great discussion on Free Speech vs. Social Justice and I'm thinking of making a thread about it but then I'm also thinking that that thread would be a shitshow... decisions decisions.

Anyone else listen to that podcast?

"SMH" at the geniuses in gaming who think Unity is a shit engine because there exist shitty/buggy games that use it. Yeah, it's the engine's fault, not the devs.

never get into engine debates especially with people who don't know what the fuck they are talking about lol. never ending headaches and stupidity abound.

No but I just downloaded it and will listen to it on the drive home. You are responsible for my ride being entertaining.

If it is not, I will have scathing words with you later Marrec. Be warned!
