HOW IS THIS CONTROVERSIAL?!

oh yeah thisisneogaf.gif
Yeah, it's quite amazing how things on gaf like this go from a fireplace chat to whatever you call all that above.

Are you able to say what club changes are being made QVT?

Here's a list of clubs changes, every single one of which a GAF club player suggested to me and I relayed (except for the long term accomplishments and hardcore unlocks which I came up with myself) : http://fifasoccerblog.com/blog/fifa-12-clubs-roms-tweets/

Romily's a cool dude except for his name which is a bit weird IMO

these are all pretty great

You can thank cornballer for reppin' d-mids. I'm told you can now get all the beginning defense achievements as a midfielder thanks to his suggestions :)

We can still abuse friendly matches against each other to level our pros up right? Those were some of the most boring, but also some of my favorite parts of FIFA 11. lol

Played the demo today. Whilst the new defending takes some getting used to, it's fine for the most part. I like the controls this year. Seems far easier to run round defenders than ever before. CPU players feel far more intelligent and make the runs you actually want them to make. All in all I'm impressed. Can't wait for it.

Edit: Also love the quick throw ins.

*high five* I gotta get some of those defensive accomplishments done while trying to protect Ragnar from the onrushing legions of VP strikers with big hair.

I hope they release the new list of accomplishments soon. I'm kinda surprised it isn't out yet.

Well that was a big thing too, while there aren't many new hairstyles or whatever, there's going to be different unlocks for different stuff that should slow down the afro craze.

I don't know, I looked good with the giant white afro.

The only thing afros were good for was making it easy to identify where particular teammates were on the field. Beyond that, it was just a plague of bad hair.

Question du jour: Is anyone going to remap the control scheme when the full game comes out? I was thinking of swapping the contain and teammate contain buttons (i.e. swap [A] and [RB] on the standard 360 configuration.) I figure that I probably won't be using sprint and contain at the same time, so I might as well put those on the right trigger and right bumper, respectively.

I don't think I am, at least not right away. I'm sure Ragnar will though.

Definitely gonna remap my controls...default's unnecessarily clunky, and I don't need guided runs for defense. Me and my mates are gonna jump straight into Clubs...you guys doing the same? =D

What's your proposed remap?

Not sure if Clubs will hammer the servers on the first night, so I might do some versus w/ friends or career mode to level my VP up a bit.

I've mentioned this before but I find it uncomfortable pressing RT to run with my player and RB to call in a teammate press simultaneously because there's a lot of instances where I need to be doing both at the same time (have my cpu teammate pressure a dribbling winger while I move away to mark somebody else in the box instead). So it's just a matter of shifting around three defense actions:

Teammate Press > X
Tackle > A
Contain > RB

The idea is to get buttons A and X function like it has always been in past fifa games (ie standing tackle and teammate press respectively under Alternate controls). I won't be using Contain (RB) at all because I find it redundant. I prefer to manually jockey with LT and the left stick (doing so offers me more control anyway since I get to control the pace and direction at which I'm coming towards a dribbler).

That makes sense, adelante. It's pretty close to what I'm thinking of doing.

Also, did anyone try this out?

You can double tap the right stick and your player knocks it twice as far forward as usual.

Yeah, I discovered the double tap by accident while Awesome and I were playing the demo "together". Works well with a speed player.

You should have left off the quotes so people could think we were doing amazing and secret things with the demo that no one else figured out.

Oh, and sorry about not play clubs yesterday. I just wanted to get off because that kid I was playing against was annoying as hell. And I did not want him to try and impede our clubs chemistry at all...

Sounds almost too clunky to use, kinda like tripple pressing X for a ground cross
I think I'd only use the double tap if I was in a lot of space.

The triple tap X for ground cross is annoying, though. I have trouble getting that to work as it usually doesn't register properly.

I played a few matches where I had contain as L2 and moved jockey to R1 (basically remapped the way you did but flipped jockey and contain). I'll probably end up using that as it worked well for me.

Hmm...I'm starting to worry about AI marking off ball...so many passes across the box are connecting for the opponent because Messi or Iniesta were left unmarked. Also, headers are way too easy.

just played a shit ton of 10 minute games on PC, came in to say this. the big fuck up in this game is pretty obviously the defensive AI

by making it harder on the actual player to defend the attacker, you have to rely on your teammates, which in a normal game is near impossible because they let cuts happen right in front of them, dont mark their man properly on crosses, and overall just look fucking dumbfounded when there is a loose ball

it may be from playing the computer and not a real human, but all the games i have played have had at least 1 goal scored on absolutely stupid shit that i cant control. have yet to play a human so hopefully the playing field is more level because they happen on both sides of the ball.

as of right now, i fucking hate the defense. the computer tip toes the shit out of any move you try to make, possesses the fuck out of you, and pretty much dominates your AI teammates. its really frustrating, but again i think playing a human will make a lot of these things better

it is a better game though, definitely more realistic with the animations and overall physics of it. but please EA for the love of Messi solve your AI problems, they're ruining an otherwise near perfect sports game

tl;dr: fuck the computer opponents, fuck your AI teammates, hopefully playing a human will make it all better

I am not conceding that many goals and most of them is just cause I messed up, but I am only playing on professional.

yea im playing legendary and comparing to my experience with legendary on fifa 11. basically, it feels like the computer has a tremendous advantage, but alas maybe thats the point of legendary

The AI is still just as bad as always, except, there's not actually anything wrong with their ability to make AI gameplay. If we ever had access to the legendary CPU AI except on our own team, that'd really go far to showing off how well the game could work. Instead, teammates are downright useless from amateur up to legendary.

Now, I mostly play as Arsenal, and nobody is ever in the box so I suppose it's kind of realistic but it's still ridiculous.

Plus, skill moves don't work against the AI because they move against your button presses instead of your in-game motion. That's easily the most frustrating thing for me in playing against the AI. I move the right stick to flick the ball ahead and on legendary, the CPU just goes to where the ball is going to be right then.

for people that play legendary..

if you were beating the AI easily on legendary in the demo of 3 mins halves, wouldn't you be disappointed?

Ushojax

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Gave the demo another try, still doesn't feel right. My players never make the runs I want them to make and always take up stupid positions going forward. It's just annoying to play.

I've been playing some more, and I think the key to defending is getting good with the tackle button. I've been getting better with it, and it has slowed my problems in my box while defending quite a bit. Plus, with no surprise, Barcelona (and I imagine RM, and ManU) are just too strong of teams in FIFA.

As far as skill moves go, I'm having lots of fun with them, and I am having little problems against the AI, I'm playing on Legendary and World Class. I'm really excited for club play..Still haven't done the Bergkamp turn yet :(

Defending is all about positioning. I can tell that the AI will make mistakes if you take away their spaces. I made Legendary Messi make bad passes quite a bit.

Chelsea strong too. ;)

Thoughts on some clubs right now?

Aw cmon, let's leave the FIFA 11 where it is. Don't want to get confused after how much demo I've played with the obviously better version.

I'm still going to get it for 360 so that when I go over to a friend's place who doesn't have fifa, we can play it there. And if he ever does stop being a cheap bastard, we can play over live with out copies.

Also, I think I've gotten much better at tactical defending. Two changes really helped:
* Remapping X, A and RB. It's a pain to do it each time for the demo, but it shouldn't be a problem that I deal with much. Now that I have team mate press and tackle in non-retarded positions on the control pad, I don't even use contain anymore.
* Changed my mindset on defense for it to be "Ok" to not have possession. I don't have to win it back RIGHT THIS SECOND once I lose possession. I just have to keep my defensive shape, cut out passing lanes and get the ball back eventually. I think I get why they made this change. It's certainly more work to win the ball back, and I'm not bored on defense. I'm not sure I like it all that much, because not having possession sucks; but I'll get used to it I think. Also, since the CPU does tac def as well, I get to dribble more with the ball without getting inane levels of godlike CPU pressing on attack.

I can't wait for the full version at this point.

FUT ratings for the Premier League players have been 'leaked'. Some of the ratings are nuts, obviously not everyone will agree, but Tottenham and Fulham seem very over rated.

Gerrard and Lampard = 85

Some ratings have indeed leaked, but I have my doubts about them being the final ones.

From my source, Gerrard and Lampard are 87. Both deserve to be 85 at best, Gerrard has been sidelined for months though, so I don't think he should go down further than that.

Reina is 84, Lucas is 78. From the same source that Carrick is 82 and Valdes 88.

I have nothing to say really, I do hope they are not final ones.

Modric 88, VDV 87, Bale 86... yeah I can live with that. People are going to be pissed about the pace ratings though. Are Young, Alves and Eto'o faster than Ronaldo?

Considering the changes in the defensive side of the controls, I wish EA had released a 6 min half demo instead of a 3 minute one.
After using thee PC fix, the game shines so much more with 6 mins. The dinamics are much more near to what real football is.

That said, taking the ball from the computer is too dificult. They take it from you from behind, and for you it's even hard taking it when they're in front of you.

Im not looking forward to sunderlands, in the past bent, jones, gyan have been the best players on our team infact a bit overpowered now we have none of them. Alough we do have the best striker in the world on loan so there is hope.
