I hope the bajillion secret trophies don't include to many easy to miss, only one chance achievements. I hate it when games do that.

What trophies are you supposed to unlock to get a theme off the BD?

According to the guide, no trophies/achievements are missable period.

What is macroblocking?
Due to a low bitrate, fastmoving cutscenes make the picture break up a bit into noticeable blocks. It's the result of badly done compression. You won't notice much of a difference in slow moving scenes, but you might in fast moving scenes. Check out a wiki article or something and the section dealing with macroblocking in the Digital Foundry review.

when does the xp system unlock? the paradigm shifts?

I'm enjoying the game so far, but a fair way into chapter two, and I'm ready for some variation/incentive.

You're almost there.

And once it happens, you'll understand why it took so long.

Any moment now, I'd guess.

I'm not sure how I feel about the game yet, still in Chapter 1 but quite a while into it. Im not a fan of the manual camera controls, it feels way too floaty/drifty, probably due to acceleration or something. Combat seems almost chaotically fast, you don't really have time to make decisions so Auto-Battle ends up getting used the majority of the time, and there are only 2 attacks to choose from in Chapter 1. I wonder how hectic things will get when you actually have a huge selection of attacks and still only have 3 seconds to decide.

Set your ATB to "wait" in the settings screen. That should help. I've been doing that since FF7 :D

That almost feels like cheating. The combat is meant to be super fast considering the default speed. I guess I could try Slow speed instead of Normal, that's not quite as bad as Wait.

FFXIII has subtitles.

God the Crystaliararararairum is confusing. how do you move to other disc things once you max one out?
I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering how that shit works.

I noticed that there's no "demo" screen and graphic for the game when you hover over it in the XMB. How lazy of Square :p

Just unlocked the Crystarium stuff, man this game looks like it'll be a blast.

I can't believe how good this game looks. I expected it to look nice but god damn!

I don't think there's an actual "wait" option. It's slow, normal or fast. I'm just mixing up different FF games lol. It works for me :p

I'm still pissed about the one character control. This crap has got to stop. It is really lazy and they're gonna have to find a way to make a streamlined battle system without this gimmick..

I only saw a Slow and Normal option for the ATB.

I can't recall any ps3 (or even psp) game without it. Maybe they'll add it via update cos it looks shoddy :lol

I hope they patch it too, this is probably the biggest PS3 game to come out to date and it's lacking the most basic of XMB previews.

One thing I'll give Square-Enix props for is no install required (or even offered)! I really, really hate mandatory installs and I'm glad they figured out how to make this game load super fast without an install (I bet the levels being a straight line helped).

An hour or so in, loving it so far. Combat is a good time and I am looking forward to how it is going to evolve throughout the game. Also, hot damn the menus are slick.

I really like the Equipment/Status screens and how they have a pose of the character as the background image.

3 hours in and loving the game, I havnt played a JRPG since FF10 and wasnt to sure if I wanted to pick this game up tonight but im glad I did. The combat system is great and a huge improvement from my past experiences with past FF games. The music in the game is amazing, I already have the battle music stuck in my head.

Can you change your party leader later in the game? Or is that somthing thats based on what chapter your at in the game?

You will be able to completely change the party later in the game. If you're curious when, it happens around
25 hours in
:lol

Yeah, I also immediately noticed this. Character portraits in status screens were getting larger all the time, so it's like they though "fuck this, we're doing FF" and made them videos :lol
I love it. (more practically I also really like how fluid, quick and seamless the whole menu and opening/closing it is despite all the glitz)

You can, but only quite a bit later. You get to use quite a variety before that though.

Played another 10 hours or so yesterday on the 29h mark. Yay for the week off.:D

Finally reached
Gran Pulse
. CG cut-scene for introducing the place is amazing and true to the depiction of the wild-life there my team gets killed by wandering thrash mobs. Damn you Behemoth, I killed your kin with ease last chapter.

People weren't kidding when they said game opens up when you reach this place. Loving this place and yay for hunting missions. :D

Vanille completely grew on me, sure her voice irks me sometimes, but I like her story and the
Sazh confrontation
was well done.
Also she's fun, her brand is on the right place and she moans as a profession pornstar during combat. I approve of my main Medic and Saboteur!:lol

-Edit- also got my first ps3 theme for getting a trophy. Sazh you sexy thang!

I'm tiring of the battle theme for reals, probs because I only ever hear like the first 30 seconds of the battle theme (if that)

Anyone know what this is about?

I registered FF13 with the code in my game box, and got a promo code for FF14, but it says something to do with an in-game item.

I take it the "special item" will be revealed today or something? I went to register on the FF14 beta application just now and it says code invalid. Guess I need the secret game item first whatever that is.

Just to quote myself, when entering the FF14 beta code for the PS3, enter it manually, copy/pasting doesn't work which was getting me all confused when it said the code wasn't working.

Anyone still have any idea what this special item we are receiving is? I'm worried I'll play 15 hours into the game and Square will be like special item now available at start of game or something :lol

It always just starts to get to the good bit and... battle over! :lol

So far the battles don't last longer than a few seconds, though I'm only about 2 hrs in.

So I got my game yesterday, expectations are low (not a fan of last few FF, poorer reviews/impressions) and I'm really liking it. Like I said I'm only at the start and I'm flip-flopping between characters but I can't complain about it so far.

Well actually I can. Could Vanille be anymore fucking annoying?! Her voice (yuck), her run (jees) and what the hell is that weapon??!

Though I have to admit, it does feel like a "My First RPG" as it's very easy, linear and pretty much holds you by the hand so far.

I went with 360 version because I'm an achievement whore and there isn't a PS3 in my room (I prefer to play games like FF in private), but boy is the compression god awful. It feels like I'm watching a torrented copy of some random TV show. Except I payed for it. I imagine I'll get used to it though. Hopefully the rest of the game won't have so many blacks or tons of far away shots with lots of movement.

To all the people playing: read the Datalogs. I just got really shocking info that is not mentioned in cutscenes AT ALL. I took a habbit of reading Datalogs everytime one is available and I went WTF.

Every new potion causing a menu alert was driving me crazy and I only played about 1.5 hours tonight.

Yeah, the datalog entries are nice. They're a good length and are unlocked at logical times.

The crystallium grid is pretty neat as well. I like how straight forward the unlocked bonuses are; simplifying the stats down to Strength and Magic seems like a good choice.

Am I blind or is there no way to turn diffrent sound effects up ? I'm having a hard time hearing what the characters are saying walking around and subtitles only works in cutscenes.

There's an option to turn on non-event subtitles...
