Okay! Here's the first five of the movies I recorded. Have at it guys!

All of them are in 720p. I cut off the character creation early, for obvious reasons, but you didn't miss much after that. I just picked my starting city (only one was available) and logged in.

Major thanks to Gromph for hosting these!

Any of them have the tutorial/battle part in the boat?

It's an NPC I think, but looks promising :), its also a Dunesfolk by the looks of his eyes.

So far my only major gripe is with the "FFXI slide down cliffs/ledges" problem. No jumping, no step-up animations when you encounter a ledge that isn't too high so you have to run around it, and falling straight down edges and cliffs.

They don't really need a jump button, they could have a passive jump similar to FF13 so when you hit a ledge you just jump off it.

Problem with jumping and swimming is that it can lead to massive glitches and bug like lalafell's getting stuck in trees :P

It's np for hosting they :)

When i finish editing will upload the rest.

I Don't really care that there isn't any jumping. But the same weird edge/cliff thing in a new game on a completely different engine? If they don't want to add jumping I think a system like FFXIII (just remove the circular marks that scream you can jump here) or even the last couple of Zeldas where it auto-jumps for you would be good.

EDIT: If I am not mistaken I think LoTRO has a sliding animation if you go down steep slopes. Even just adding that would be better than falling straight down without any animation.

notworksafe- Thanks for the vids! What are your PC specs? Cutscenes ran better on your machine than the YouTube vid I saw yesterday.

I just cant over how great the standard battle music sounds. Then again, I expected that with him coming off Lost Odyssey.

EDIT: Nice, videos are up. Downloading now.

Ooh nice! Next NA Alpha test is on the 13th! Unfortunately I have to redownload the whole Alpha client because Square didn't build in a way for it to be updated

You are shitting me.

Nope. Are you running the Alpha now? I guess Square's method is to re-run the ffxivsetup.exe and use the uninstall option. At some point I believe they will post when to redownload the Alpha client.

Not especially great, but not bad.

I'm running a late-2008 Macbook Pro in Boot Camp (Windows 7 32bit)
2.4ghz Core2Duo
2gb RAM
256mb GeForce 8800

Eh. 15-25 FPS. There needs to be some optimization done on that end because a lot of people were having in-game issues unless they had beastly machines.

Yep. That is almost funny if it weren't such a pain in the ass.

I'm running a brand new high end Desktop and I got around the same FPS unless I could get away from people.

Wonder what combat skills an Armorer would have, especially if Blacksmith already repairs armor.

What are the jobs for the disciple of the land again? Miner and woodsmith?

In the crafting system in ffxi you often needed to level additional craft skills to make stuff, like if there was a gold cloth ingredient in the plate mail recipe you needed sufficient skill in cloth or your synths would bust.

Maybe an armorer skill is kind of an answer to that? Rather than having to level 3 different crafts to synth armor you can just choose this skill and take the raw materials made by other skills and put them together?
What are the jobs for the disciple of the land again? Miner and woodsmith?
Miner, botanist, and fisher.

Armorer is likely the heavy-armor version of Weaver. i.e. Weaver makes cloth/light armor, armorer makes metal/heavy armor. Blacksmith repairs armors/weapons.

Guess we won't know for sure until later, though. Only abilities present in the alpha have been leaked via .dat mining, correct?

Not yet. Anything that has a name showing is still being edited.
Thanks for doing this dude. Can't wait to see the battle system in motion since I missed out on the live streams last night.

Yeah sorry about that. Sending the raw files probably wasn't the best call. :lol

No no, the firstbattle_tam was fine around 24 MB

Adding the blur and motion and publish in avi = 5GB

Compress in Xvid = 30 Mb+- :)

So is ok :)

Can someone explain how you fight in detail (button presses, etc.) because even after watching that video, i'm still not clear.

EDIT: Emotes seems like it wont download completely.

Try now.

Thanks guys! These look fantastic!

I know there is only one big region available now in alpha, is it all open and persistent or is it chunked and instanced?
