Which guildleves? Are the prizes random?
Make sure to be on the lookout for treasure chests that will spawn for you while you're on guildleves, you interact with them via the menu like an aetheryte. I've gotten 2 nice pieces of gear from the chests.

Did anyone play Archer a bit further? I am wondering if DEX influnces the archers strength more than for instance STR (like in some other games).

So what quest is up after escorting sissu? Maybe we should team up again tonight and do that

After that its just a few cutscenes, and you're finished with that class quest. I guess it's either move around to different camps, check out guildleves/explore, or look for more information on sahagin attacks at that something rock place.

I'm curious. What did you score on the benchmark?

I scored 3500 on the low and was getting between 4-13 fps in town and 16-30 fps out of town.

FWIW the server lag was somehow effecting the FPS and there is a glitch with ATI based GPU's, I might roll back my driver to 10.5 to see if it makes any difference for next time.

I dunno what your thoughts are on posting this link to the official tester site because there seems to be lots of people that are still trying to dl the update.

Not a good idea, he could get banned.

I think they added a new quest chain in the beta that starts at lvl 10, not sure if that class of physical though.

So I gave up playing, even with a top of the line system it runes horrible. It looks pretty but soon as I start to move forward it stutters like crazy. That along with the wonky UI makes it infuriating to even try.

Also I couldn't figure out at all how to use miner, or lay of the land. I would of kept at it.. but like I said the game stuttering like that on a high end system even with stuff turned down made me lose patience.

Ok, I think you and me have the same problem Ferrio - I get excellent framerates when I'm not doing anything (definitely smooth at at least 30). The second I start moving my character around, or look in certain directions, it drops to an unplayable rate (< 1) and my HDD starts sounding like it's constantly loading.

I think there's alot of loading going on the background which is making this unplayable on certain hardware. My load times are atrocious too (3-5 minutes just to zone in initially; WoW loads me into Dalaran in less than a minute).

Not sure what to do about it:
- Moved HDD to the better SATA controller on my mobo
- Installed a second HDD to use specifically for a swap file
- Updated graphics driver

These all improved things a bit, but not significantly.

Comp specs:
Gigabyte EP-UD3R mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo clicked at 3ghz/3ghz
3.25gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 4800 card

Running HDTune I get about 50mb/sec min, 110mb/sec max with 10-12ms access time on the main HDD.

I get about 2500 on the benchmark which says the game should be playable on the standard settings, and it's not even close :(

Yes you can do the rank lv10 physical guildleve even at lv5.
You can even equip item rank 10-25 without problem with an inferior rank . ^^;

Wait so you can equip certain items without having the rank needed? Or does that mean without the profession rank being high.

Sorry to invade your beta thread, but since some of you are playing maybe you can answer a couple questions or point me to a good post/preview that addresses these things:

I really enjoyed FFXI when it came out. However, I grew tired of it because it was a lot of "kill crabs, then kill onions, then kill goblins, then kill ghosts, then move to a new area and kill crabs, then kill onions, then kill goblins, then kill ghosts."

Now, I actually really enjoyed the party system--but I hated the monotony of enemies and the fact that leveling was merely "kill about a bajillion crabs and onions, then level up, then kill 2 bajillion."

I think I spent a good 200 hours in the dunes--the leveling got so damn slow for me after 30, that I would just start over a new job and get to beyond the dunes, then start over again.

Is this stuff fixed now? Is there some variety or at least a faster pace to leveling?

Also, is there a more modern equipment system? Maybe a dungeon running system similar to WoW's that has places to go for people of all levels--not just end game. With XI, I felt that basically you could get equipment only in the Auction House; equipment was next to impossible to find if you aren't already rocking a high level (or you'd be so behind the curve that finding a party would be very difficult).

Finally, is there a quest system that isn't completely obtuse? I remember wanting to unlock Paladin and having to do some strange quest chain that I didn't understand. I just followed a guide that I read on the internet and did a bunch of things in the game while I literally had no idea what was going on. To top it off, I needed high level help and couldn't unlock the job on my own. Total bummer.

Otherwise, I loved renkei, so I hope that is still around. And chain bonuses were badass. I loved resting in battle as a healer: Pop a regen, sit down, wait for a tick, throw out a cure, sit down. Man, that shit was soooooo fun. I really hope the rest of the game has caught up with the awesome party mechanic.

Yes you can equip a weapon job rank 25 with a job rank 1.
The item's stats will scale with each rank up !

Try OCing your CPU first. Core 2 duos are easy to OC and you'll get 3.2ghz+ out of that thing easily and in CPU bottlenecked situations performance will scale linearly with clockspeed so its just a non brainer. A cheap second hand Q6600 is another option, and again you'd be crazy not to OC it. Its free performance. Something like a Hyper 212+ Plus will do for the cooler.

Get a GTX 460 1GB to go with it, your current GPU is a complete piece of trash, it was shitty at launch and is even more terrible now.

Ive looked into OCing my current CPU but didnt see the options I needed in the BIOS to do so.

Ive considered replacing the CPU but again no plans to OC. I do ok with replacing stuff on my PC but not sure I want to mess with the CPU too much.

That video card you recommended seems a bit overkill for me. The ones I see on Newegg are PCI-E 2.0 with DDR5. Pretty sure I wouldnt benefit from either with my current specs.

DoctorWho said:

below 800. Initially I think it gave me a 300ish score but I think I was playing FFXI at the time. :lol

I'll try to get some screen grabs and maybe a short vid cap during the next test period but honeslty it doesnt run that bad for me.

See I like the idea of this, its kind of like FF11's system for scaling gear whilst level synced.

Too bad they didn't tell us about this ! lol

FWIW you can also now use higher level skills with lower level classes, ie Gladiator lvl 20 skills with a lvl 5 Conjurer, supposedly the effect is also scaled. (I haven't tried this)

It's still beta and they have a lot of things to improve but the party system doesn't exist actually so it's difficult to talk about it and renkei is now battle regimen but nobody know how that will work...

Guildleves are repeatable quests with items and gils and there is a new system too :

The new game element “Behest” has been added.
“Yellowjacket” NPCs may appear in the vicinity of certain aetheryte crystals and aetherial gates to enlist the aid of adventurers in hunting down monsters molesting the land.

So maybe we will see factionleves with kill x mobs then x boss appear and everyone got a loot ! I hope so because I can't see a MMORPG today where you need to wait at the boss spawn x hours...

Is there no Vsync option in that ffxivconfig.exe? Im going to end up forcing it thru d3doverrider anyways but I do typically like to try it both ways if a game gives me that option. Did I miss it or does it not exist?

Nope you have to force it, the game is locked at 30 fps and you most of the time you aren't guna be getting that :p (especially with an ATI card)

Whats your setup?

Vista Ultimate 32bit
3GB RAM
Intel i5 quad core @ 3.2ghz
Nvidia GTX275

Even with fraps running I didn't have problems holding a steady 28-30 FPS.

That goat on the other hand....

Anyone having trouble with 64bit? My friend cant seem to get it to load the update process. Some sort of Version Check Fail.

You may have the best possible setup since ATI cards get extreme slowdown and it appears your nvidia card isn't on the list of ones with the weird issues.

For all who need.

Here is the install folder updated to last version

http://awk.cenobyte.org/ffxiv/SquareEnix.rar

Thanks! Saves me the trouble of downloading the patch suing the torrent....

One question though, is there a thread on the tester forums regarding crashing on the loader? I double click the icon and can't get past the initial black screen before it crashes. (Was doing this even before i unpacked your folder).

Running Windows 7 x64.

I need 24/7 beta to start now. :lol

Though hopefully they iron out a few things first. Especially mob distribution. I don't know if they're using a dynamic spawn system right now, but if they are, it's not really serving its purpose. Check colors also need to be looked into. Yellow beetles were totally fine but yellow puk hatchlings were death.

I think the testing will become smoother once the servers go 24/7

I didn't get any problems in the instances with frame rates or anything like that. But onces I was out of the instance I noticed lag because of how everyone was basically trying to do what I was also doing. Shadowlord seems to be a very crowded server. I kind of wish I wasn't on it now.

Thats what I was thinking too. ATI cards seem to be the trend amongst those with the major FPS problems.

I don't even know how to check which server I'm on. I never got a <Welcome to BlahBlah> message on my first (and only) login.

I wish they'd let us pick our servers, I'd like to play with my friends :/

I wouldn't call myself a tech-geek or a PC-nerd or anything like that but I've always made sure not to buy ATI when getting new computers. Its just a simple choice for me.

Added server to OP. Also it seems that you weren't just having bad luck, Tekno.

To Beta Testers Who Created Characters on Kefka World

There was an issue where newly created characters were being distributed disproportionately to the Kefka World until Jul. 13, 19:30 (PDT). Currently new character creation on the Kefka World has been temporarily suspended.

Since most characters have been created on the Kefka World, we ask that you please delete your current character and recreate another character if you feel that the world is too congested.

After the Jul. 14 Beta Test, world selection will be available at the time of character creation

This was my first PC and I went with them for DX11 last year. Ive spent a lot of time since then researching issues, worrying about bad drivers, and had to actually get a replacement card because ATI was beating around the bush with some of the issues they were having. The card isnt even a year old and Im about ready to go Nvidia and never look back.

Still, the ATI issues only seemed to pop up this past beta phase. I think mostly everyone was fine on Saturday aside from those using a certain Nvidia (!) card actually. Im sure SE will patch this up.

Im just worried since I mainly put this PC together for FFXIV. It damn well better be able to run it properly.

Glad (sort of) to hear the terrible performance is ATI related. My machine scored over 3k and my brother's over 5k and both ran like shit. So long as it's patched up, that's one less thing to worry about with this game.

GDDR5 =/= DDR5

that GTX460 would actually be perfect and would give a massive boost to your system performance. Most Core2 motherboards support PCI-e 2 and even if yours doesn't it's backwards compatible since PCI-e 1.0 16x = PCI-e 8x also I believe most cards don't use much more than 8x bandwidth. Either way I would agreed that you should OC as even a core2quad below 2.7~ GHz will bottleneck modern cards a bit.

Not even party mechanics implemented yet!

Well, I'll wait for more info. I really hope they fix the stuff I'm interested in!
