They were pretty open to EX versions of story stuff up through 2.4 and Shiva, and we did get an EX version of Thordan eventually, so I dunno. I lean against Hildebrand largely because you have to do the whole 2.x Hildi series to get there, and they've been pretty big about not locking the trials in HW behind lengthy prerequisites.

An EX Hildi fight would be amazing, though. Actually... add Battle in the Big Keep and Battle on the Big Bridge to things I would be fine with them rehashing

Yeah, I won't say that locking Hildibrand trials behind lengthy "walk here now walk there" questlines was good game design by any stretch of the imagination, but they were still great motivators to actually do the quests.

If they did throw in a "mystery trial" alongside the trials we already expect, I will be pleasantly surprised. The game does need some surprises, and if they're not developing another ROG/NIN to throw in mid-release, it'd be nice to see some more trials.

And Lord knows they need a trial that gives rings as rewards. This whole half-step weapon only thing is not interesting.
 
Crafting question: In ARR, could you get the omni gear Artisan, I believe) with only one class via tokens or were they crafted stuff that needed to be crafted by every class?

I'm almost reaching the 3-star threshold for my BSM, but I definitely don't want to do that for every fucking crafter class, as it's expensive as hell and my heart can't take all the RNG involved. If I only get my specialist classes (ARM, BSM and ALC) to 3-star, would that be enough for me to catch up on stuff for the new patch, if it follows the idea of ARR?
 
Today's Black Desert patch added Angary's favourite XIV hat to the cash shop. All classes have their own version of it. You can even dye different parts of it too. I might have to spend some money.

Tanking the higher level HW dungeons has been quite the experience. Dicks are found left and right. Sometimes the healer takes it out on me for doing big pulls, which I can handle or sometimes it is even a dps that blames me after one wipe even when I popped cds and the healer couldn't heal me through it. Anyway, finally got my PLD to 34 so I cross-classed awareness onto my WAR. When should I be using it?

With Raw Intuition
Alternatively whenever you get attacked a lot and you don't want to risk collapsing to a crit.
Some raid level bosses have heightened crit chance during certain phases (Shiva bow phase, though that's irrelevant now, Shabti add in A5S), Awareness negates those.

It's a little tedious especially if you ignore them until the end and then try to collect them all at once but otherwise it's not so bad.

They eased up/changed a few things with recent patch so idk how updated that list is.

It's dead easy. You just need to find nodes, and you get given a compass that guides you to them (or you can just look up the locations online). Then a few quests in each zone give the remaining nodes, and boom, you can fly.

The quests are the annoying part, often they're locked behind the main scenario and don't open up until you get that far along in the story. Some zones are actually split and you don't unlock flying until you come back later in the story. The rest is just time consuming. I used this thread, since they mapped everything.

did you at least tell the healers you were doing big pulls? And from the sound of it, you were in Brayflox which is actually a tough dungeon for most new people so idk why you expect healers to know how to heal big pulls

Nah, I mentioned heavensward. I was in Aery on my Warrior. The healer made me die twice and I did say I was doing big pulls, mhm. I figured they could not handle it after, therefore I decided to do baby pulls. Don't know why they got mad at me when they said ok. It is odd. Again, I popped CDs so I probably shouldn't have died.

if they didnt say anything then yea fault is on them for not keeping you up. Thought you were doing bray based on you saying your pld was 34

This line of reasoning is basically why I now respond to "I'm doing big pulls." with "I can handle it if you can." There are a ton of tanks that pull big that are not great at it (there's more to it than "popping CDs"), and I'm not going to feel particularly bad if a tank dies because they pulled bigger than they can handle.

No idea what actually happened in this scenario, but healing Aery/Sohm Al random tanks around HW launch was an education in how wildly healing requirements will vary between tanks on the same job depending on how they do what they do. ARR 50 dungeons spoiled us all with overgear.

Do you just mash them all before you start pulling mobs, Tomahawk one per pack, not sprint, and then end up at half health with everything falling off and hate on five mobs out of twenty before you stop running?

Because then everything and I am now team Alena.

(I just feel like "I popped CDs" is the equivalent of a healer saying "I casted heals it must be your fault." Maybe so maybe no.)

People in HW dungeons are weird. Sometimes you get peoples that burn everything, sometimes you wipe at Nidhogg 5 times because one DPS never remembers Sable Price is a thing
 
Dunno man. Some people just like to blame everyone but themselves. Pull big while tanking and died? Must be the healers fault. Healing and tank pulls too much and dies? Obviously he wasn't using CDs correctly. Couldn't be that said person isn't the best healer or tank ever.

I see it all the time. A little bit of humility goes a long way.

back to square one then. Maybe the tank thought you could handle the healing when you couldn't
 
I once had a tank pop all his CDs pre-pull. Literally just to waste them. I asked why he did it and he said "Oh I don't need them". I actually had to explain that it doesn't matter if he "didn't need them". They're just as much as for the healers as they are for him.

That also reminds me of a SCH in Seph ex the other day that wouldn't put any shields down. Not even pre-pull. Why you gotta make my job harder ;__;
 
when i tank , i am a big proponent of the slow and steady progress rather then going in Screaming YOLO.

Ill pull the first sets of adds and if i see adds getting pounded into oblivion by good DPS and a healer who looks like he/she is falling asleep while healing me i might feel tempted to pull another set of adds in addition yet ill never pull more then 2 at once if i can help it .

never had someone complain about it either .

People on my server seems to care more about getting it done even if it takes a bit longer rather then wanting to YOLO, GOTTA GO FAST and wipe over and over again .
 
I keep hearing that Dragoon has awesome AoE abilities, and when doing Duty Roulette the tank usually rounds up loads of mobs which he clearly wants us to AoE down. But damn, the abilities I have such as Doomspike are HUGE TP drains. I can barely keep it up for more than few moments. So I usually just go back to single target rotation, which I can keep doing for almost all of time, but I can just feel that tank getting annoyed.

I guess basically what I'm saying is fuck Doomspike, it needs to cost WAY less.

i think you're supposed to do HT>Ring of Thorns>repeat as AoE if doomspike spam isnt TP sustainable for the pull
 
Doomspike spam is there if you're grouped with a better AOE class that knows what they're doing, yeah. Otherwise ROT is much more sustainable and you're still doing more AOE than a ninja!!!
 
I only do big pulls on dungeons where people are well geared. I look at the healer's weapon, I check the party formation, and then I pull accordingly. Doing big pulls when the gear is not appropriate or when the melee will exaust their TP in 10 seconds seems a waste of time to me, specially when you have so many mediocre players (mostly DPS) in the game. I ran EX roulette with a SMN that didn't use Shadow Flare a few days ago, ffs.
 
I actually got kicked from an Ex Roulette Lost City of Amdapor HM last week for prioritizing AOE'ing groups. Every group I've ever ran with after the first week or so of 3.2 has wanted the DPS to prioritize egg-doors first to gather up mobs and then burn them down.

So I'm burning down these doors, as a DRG, and I realize the tank is completely uninterested in grabbing the mobs off of me. Confused, I stop attacking and try to get back to the group, but the mobs end up killing me because no healing occurred. The healer and tank are leader and officer of some FC on Cactuar (I looked their dumb asses up), and they go "Can we kick the DRG?" and I'm like "wait, what? don't you want to AOE these groups?" and they were like "I didn't see any DRG AOE" followed by a "you have been dismissed from the duty".

Sometimes the player base of FF14 is so incredibly stupid and frustrating that I'm starting to think that the game has to be somewhat at fault. I've never had this problem in any other MMO as much as I've had it in FFXIV. I've been dismissed for DPS'ing as a healer (with no one dropping below 70-80% health) because I was in cleric stance helping with DPS. It's insane.

I'm really surprised to read these stories every time they come up. I wonder if it's something that's specific to NA data centers because I've literally never had anyone telling me to not DPS as a healer on Chaos. And that's pretty much all I've been doing since ARR came out.
 
There are people who think that if they aren't at full health the healer isn't doing their job and really shouldn't be doing damage. It's so silly.

Sorry that has happened to you, the tank should of at least marked what he wanted to burn down, but lately I guess people assume you burn down eggs before taking on the mobs. And yes, some tanks and healers can't handle the additional load that brings, especially the part with the giant butterflies before the first boss.

Also, the tank should of grabbed aggro... and the healer should of tried to keep you up. They sound like bads that have to queue together because they'd get "das boot" if they were solo for playing like that. That run would of sucked if you'd stay, trust me.

At least you didn't have to put up with the infamous BF/GF crappy tank/healer combo that can do no wrong and flirt/RP with each other during the dungeon wasting the other players time... shudder.

There are big pulls and there are intelligent big pulls. I know this is heresy to say, but it also goes into what mobs are in these big pulls. In the Aery, for example, everyone grabs the two (three) aoe drakes with the big dragon before the two sleeping dragons back to back room.

There are multiple aoes going off and that pull is already kind of annoying as is. Some tanks pull the dragonbro before that into the pack as well, which makes it harder to handle. If someone grabbed the three baby dragons before that guy into that pull, that could get overwhelming pretty fast especially if you accidentally stand in an aoe just once.

Also as a tank there's more you can do to help a pull than think that your cooldowns will save you from having to know how to position yourself and mobs and using your skills in a decent way. In the end these are still level synced dungeons and while they're not that difficult persay, there are definitely ways to really fuck yourself or your group over with how you approach the pulls.

Just remember that a pull with many mobs is likely going to last longer than Vengeance's timer. If a majority of the adds are still up and vengeance/raw intuition are down, then you need to improvise and start using other things.

Also pulling large packs of mobs and relying on Raw Intuition, for example, before you have Awareness... You're going to get straight up murdered because of popping Raw Intuition.
