LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Whoops.

Also my character is getting married right now.
I just want the mount, having someone log into my account and go through it for me.
S-E needs to add a common law/courtroom package for people that just want the bird lmao.

Since the patch made the PvP queue times worse, are there enough people interested for pre-made Ultros Frontlines this weekend? If we can get a pre-made party for each GC, we should have decent queue times and might even face each other in a 24-person Frontline. We can include non-FC members just to fill out the parties. If there is enough interest, I can start a thread on the Guildwork forum.

I've been enjoying this way more on PS4 than I did on my PC for some reason. Its nice to lean back and laze it up while leveling.

I think when I start doing raids eventually ill make the switch back to PC.

That's pretty much how I roll. I do most shit on PS4/Vita but if I do Coil or Extreme trials I switch over to PC. Crystal Tower on PS4 is fine and way better for me if I'm healing since it's easier to heal alliance members with the touch pad.

also yeah cant lurk this thread anymore way too many people forgetting spoiler tags

Apologies for the spoilers, not something I keep a habit about.
Prob should though. Oh well.

Also ETERNALLY BONDED. Apparently the person who logged in for me said the other person d/c'd mid ceremony and everyone panicked.
I assumed it was one big cutscene.

So what are some things I should be spending my GC seals on? I'm about to max them and I looked at the quartermaster and they have a lot of new stuff that I don't know what they do.

You know that like...5 people even do Frontlines in the FC right.

And maybe another 5 in Ultros.

Also I don't know if it made it worse or just bugged out for some people. Felix was able to get in two games while I was sitting in the same queue.

The problem with this is 90% of the FC is Failstrum.
And 89% of them don't PvP.

So, finished the Main Scenario yesterday. My thoughts.

The Good

Although I've complained about not having a new Extreme Primal to work with, having the story get away from the Primals was actually a pretty darn good move. Hopefully in the future they separate new primals from the main scenario, at least occasionally. Anyhow, the highlight of the main scenario this time was of course Midgardsormr, his (sorta,) revival and machinations. It's really interesting to see a real honest to goodness, "big player," take a personal interest in the Player Character. Keeping his motivations less than entirely clear, is also a good move, as it brings up questions, and gets players thinking about things like lore, which is necessary to keep players interested in the world.

Additionally.

It might only be one of them, but the villains finally acted like villains. Thank, flipping goodness. Also, that Trial is actually a bit challenging for once, which is good, it'll force casual players to reach a minimal level of competence if they want to beat that trial whenever it comes up on roulette.

The Bad
The storyline in Uldah got a bit of a backseat this time, and it makes me wonder why they even bothered. They could have easily worked most of these plot points into 2.5 part 2, and it likely would've flowed a bit better. The real low-point however, was Moonbryda sacrificing herself to kill an Ascian. Now, don't get me wrong, the scene itself was somewhat effective, but, introducing a character just to kill them off that quickly is never a good idea. If they were going to do that, they should've introduced her back in 2.1, to give players more time to get attached.

Furthermore, this decision, and Minfillia getting kidnapped, again, really highlight the biggest shortcoming with the writing so far, Minfillia herself. It's always been pretty obvious that she's a weak character, not just poorly written, but actually weak. She's been kidnapped twice, let her organization be usurped by an effeminate teenage boy with highly questionable fashion sense. (Alphinaud, pants, USE THEM! D:) In essence, she's Princess Toadstool, only she's worse in a way as she doesn't seem to actually realize that's the role she's fallen into. Now, it was pointed out that for awhile, it felt like she might have been set-up to make this sacrifice, and frankly I agree with that. Finding a way to kill an Ascian was her project, something she deemed worthy of pursuit. Yet when the time came, instead of stepping up, she first begged a god to step in and fix everything for her, then watched helplessly as a newcomer with very little emotional stake in the fight, stepped up, and fixed everything for her.

That was a horrible decision on the writers part. First, because it reduces the number of strong female leads in this game, and second, because Minfillia actually stepping up for once would have largely redeemed her as a character. Instead she continued to be a weak figure of little actual importance to the story, save for acting as a damsel in distress. Now, I need to be clear. Overall I really liked the main scenario this time around. I think they did kinda stumble at the climax, but it had so many highpoints throughout it this time that I still feel immensely satisfied. On top of that, they can turn this bad decision around by turning this into a catalyst for Minfillia, to actually turn things around. If she turns around in the future, and asks herself why she wasn't the one to step up, and why she always ends up being the one saved, and uses this frustration to actually accomplish something, then she'll actually become a character worthy of actually focusing on from time to time. If not, then they should de-emphasize her, and focus on different characters.

Again, overall I really enjoyed the scenario this time around. It feels like we're finally starting to see a bit more of the worlds lore, and starting to see things unfold. That by far outweighs the downsides.

PS: RIP in peace Moonie, it's a huge shame, I was quickly beginning to like you.

I tried the beta on PC and I didn't like it. But on PS4 I've leveled a PLD to 50 and other classes at various levels.

I'm not sure what it is, maybe the analog controls make it feel more like a single player console Final Fantasy? For 24 person raids I just pull the camera out so I can actually see things. I don't think PC controls are necessary there.

How does everyone feel about some new armor designs?

Also I should prob start on my new DoH mainhand.

God damn at Ecuador

Japan looks like something that could be in the game already. I'd wear Canada's for a week only because it would make Tabris think twice before calling my outfit ugly. Every single one gets a /no from drama though.

That ADS mount will motivate people, especially if we can get quick matches together.

I agree entirely with you on Minfilia. They really need to do something with her character.

They're setting her up to do something huge that is going to feel like it fell flat because it's so out of character. Everyone bookmark this post, it's money in the bank.

2.5 spoilers blah blah blah comedy questline still better written than main storyline blah
They kind of have to do something with all the Scions, honestly- we still have no idea what drives them etc except 'stop primals doing bad things' which makes them hard to actually care about, and they mostly seem to exist to tick the boxes of certain archetypes and appear in fight scenes. Thancred had potential, but he got over the whole possession thing remarkably quickly. They didn't even tell us about the Moenbryda/Louiscroux thing until after she died which made it a bit bloody late to care about its resolution, not to mention killing a character introduced one patch ago (and a villain two quests ago) isn't really that impactful.

Spoilers about Spoilers...

Not to mention Moenbryda was the only real spark introduced to the cast. She was firey, passionate and by extension, give Urlanger SOMETHING. Showed a different side of him. She was fun to see and a good addition. Plus, she is the only one with balls enough to go after an Ascian head on. The rest all piss their pants like bitches. Nah, can't have that. No Roe's allowed in this cast of boring characters!

Yep, I agree with your post.
I'm super disappointed that they got rid of Moen so quickly. She was cool and also the only Roe in the group! D:

Moen was the best addition to the cast. She actually seemed to have some sort of character...if they wanted to go for the bigger impact, they should have killed Minifilia, who is beyond useless and seems to get worse as the story goes on.

I couldn't agree more (spoilers about spoilers about spoilers).
Killing Moenbryda so soon was such a waste... She was actually refreshing and had a very likable personality, while the other scions members are pretty "meh". But, no, let's kill the only strong female character among the scions (Yda is nice but dumb, and Minfilia seems incapable of taking any actions and is utterly useless, being only the Scions figurehead).

Alphinaud looks like a lady and has horrible taste in clothes, but at least this guy is always doing something.

So I bought the game through green man gaming. Was playing on my japanese account on ps3. Apparently I can't use the code to continue my character from the demo because the region is different.

Hmmm, anyone have the reverse problem? Bought the game in Japan but played on a NA account? Anyone want to trade?:/

would prefer not losing 1 week of progress, the characters I saved and my user name.

edit: actually i guess ill have to deal with it otherwise ill have to pay my subscription in yen and knowing SE, my non japanese credit card won't be allowed.

Re: the above spoilers. I'm pretty sure the only reason they
made her that cool is so that people would be extra impacted/motivated when they crammed her in a fridge. She was almost certainly just created to die.

Well yeah, but for that very reason it makes her death feel a little weak! Honestly, the stupid slapstick comedy storyline managed to do a better job with its ending even if it was pretty by-the-numbers farce story beats. Admittedly, there's hope for 2.55 (I wish)!!!1

I'm not sure I agree -
I mean, just the notion that they only wrote a good character is because they planned to kill her off. Are all the other Scions written badly on purpose? Is Midgardsormr doomed to die now? I really do think Minfillia was set up to die instead, but they changed it due to her popularity. I guess there's no more basis for that then the idea that Moen was brought in to die, but it would be a far bigger impact from a story perspective and would be an interesting way to end her story arc. On the other side Moen's story arc was just added in after she died. It's like they realized how bad this was and tried to justify it last minute.

But I'm glad the OT as a whole can agree for once: the scions are turrible.

I don't see why it can't be both, I guess--
my pet out-of-nowhere completely made up theory would be, given how far in advance they map things out, if Minfilia was meant to die and they changed their minds, that's the point at which they came up with the Moen we eventually got, and she wound up better than the other scions largely because they didn't need to worry about long-term story implications of the character. They just did what they could to cobble together somebody that would have an impact when she died in the time they had.

The timeline with Moen as an entity in the story is just too short for me to believe they made her long-term and then decided to sacrifice her.

I would be pretty surprised if Midgardsormr stuck around long-term as a regular character, instead of just fading into a background role making brief cameos. Love to be wrong, though.

But, yeah, scions suck, down with scions, Gaius was right, etc.

It's amazing the people of Eorzea don't just die in their sleep or their bathtubs.
It's baffling how the Garleans didn't just walk in and declare themselves the victors ages ago.

Moen was never a good character.

Is it really surprising though, when there's like more Warriors of Light than normal people in the land? I wouldn't invade that shit either. It's like invading a town where every other person is a super hero(mind you I'm sure this happened in comics).
