Yes. Save mixed grip, hook grip, straps and chalk for when you absolutely need them, i.e. when your grip is stopping you from completing reps. For example, unless you're practising another grip, warm-ups should be done double overhand (if possible), even if your work sets won't.

That sounds good to me; I'll stop using hook grip. Thanks Bird :)

I'll jump in here (don't often lurk OT Community), but was at the gym tonight and also hit a goal - finally managed to bench my weight - 245. Just two reps - did 10 @ 135, 8 @ 155, 6 @ 185, 4 @ 205, and then my 2 @ 245. Needed a some help on the last one, so it's not totally there, yet. But slowly but surely...

Considering I was struggling with 95lbs back in July, I'm a happy camper.

I've been doing so many face-pulls, but to give an idea of how shitty my shoulders are right now, 2nd set of 20 with only 50lbs and my shoulders start to feel fatigued around 10. It definitely has to be the cold weather, I don't feel any pinching and they don't pop or anything. It's just a really dull ache in both of them and almost immediate fatigue when I do any type of direct shoulder exercise.

That said, I will hit 405lbs on bench before the end of the year, been able to get up 385 for reps the last two weeks without any real trouble, no spot either.

have you thought about taking a week break with no lifting? maybe after you hit 405 would be a good time. that's gonna be super stressful on your whole body.

I've only been going to the gym once a week for the last month, just doing heavy compounds and no accessory work. I do a lot of rehab work on my shoulders, it's helping but it's a slow process.

Came across this kind of PHUL (Power Hypertrophy Upper Lower) routine when searching for alternatives to PHAT with fewer workouts per week.

While my arms might be a bit bulkier, I haven't worked on them in over a month. I currently curl only 5 lbs (doctor's orders).

im pretty sure that with your arms, even if you didnt work them out, they would just continue to grow on their own

I feel like my shoulder is going to fly out of my socket when doing pullups. I'm a big guy at 270. Should I absolutely stop? It seriously feels like it's BARELY hanging together.

I'm not positive about this but I believe every time you practice kicking a giraffes head like your avatar it sends specific directions to your arms to grow.

*Weighed 203.5 this morning! My ability to put on weight even surprises myself sometimes.

Cardio only on weekends. Will bulk either to 180 lbs or mid February/Valentines Day.Than start my shred. Figure I will have an easy shred if I keep it clean.

Goal is to be 7% shredded by Coachella in April.

I got that covered. Gonna mix that up with egg whites and tilapia. Love eating carbs though with every meal. Oatmeal and brown rice. Its day 2 and I feel pretty damn good and had a great lift today. Can't wait to crush legs tomorrow.

If you can find low sodium cottage cheese you can mix it with casein and some stevia to make awesome protein ice cream. Clean as a whistle.

I'm where you are in terms of BF% although I have calipers backing me up. You can join me in my new year's resolution: 6-8 weeks of Ultimate Diet 2.0. I know some GAFers have run it though I can't for the life of me remember who or what kind of results they saw. But the universal opinion seems to be that it's the hardest, most effective thing you will ever do as far as dieting goes.

Do you have specific meals you'll be scheduling? I need to start putting together my schedule. Haven't read the book yet so maybe he gives examples of specific food ideas.

To answer your question, sorta, right now I pretty much eat the same stuff now during the day. Dinner is variable (based on what my wife cooks) as is nighttime snack (based on how many calories I have left to spare). I've also done PSMF before so I'm used to eating nothing but protein and abusing EC for a few days on end before a big carb refeed. The workouts are likely to be a bitch.

Clean bulking? What's the point? Gimme everything! This bulk is only lasting 4 more weeks! I'm convinced those dozen cookies I consumed last night just increased my future deadlift scheduled for tonight!

I always took the word "clean" to mean "a reasonable surplus" and not "CHICKEN AND OATS ONLY". IIFYM then hey, cookies ahoy.

haha yea, it's a legitimate thing for sure. What Matt Ogus did was fairly tame I suppose, but you got Kai Green and Kali Muscle who have both done some more edgier stuff. And their are guys who go full out and pretty much whore themselves.

I wouldn't doubt it, I think fitness has kinda become one of the in or cool things to do. With that, their will always people who want to take shortcuts, so it stands to reason. I have no reason to believe it will get better unless drugs somehow become safer, which they won't.

It seems to be a catch all term for cam shows/muscle worship specifically for gay men, doing solo porn, and sex. I don't know how much they pay, but apparently it pays the bills for some bodybuilders. Apparently it can get very real, the guy who passed yesterday was apparently really heavy into it, I don't care enough to search honestly.

when matt ogus videos leaked earlier this year of his muscle worship sessions, I was embarrassed for him. They were very tame, mostly him just shirtless looking at a webcam and calling his worshippers disparaging words for gays. It came across as really fetishy and super corny. He used the money he was making with an ok build and got himself a condo. Unfortunately for him, he wanted to leave all that behind and recorded footage surfaced years after creating a really prolific youtube channel and following. I don't even think theirs anything inherently wrong with muscleworship stuff. You're more or less getting paid for someone else to worship you. That said, it goes against my principles and I wouldn't even entertain the thought, but then I'm not starving or desperate like some people.
 
I spend the large majority of my life at maintenance and suffer through the months of keeping up having visible abs. When I bulk I welcome every ounce of fat! Not like I'll have trouble getting it off.

Im a bit of a puss. Once I get "bloat face" I will break and end it. My facial aesthetics will go down 3 points.

Haha! Facial aesthetics. I like it! I hear ya. That's why my bulks are usually only 2 or maybe 3 months max.

Failed my second workout in a row. This time it was deadlifts at 410 even though I was able to do 405x2 last week without a problem. I think its a mixture of my psyching myself out and me needing to really fix my eating and sleeping habits.

I think I will just go easy the rest of the week and just treat is as a rest/fail week.

So I've been keeping up with my lifting routines, but I've noticed something weird. Like most people, I get sore a day or two after the work out (for me it's almost always the second day). But I haven't had that problem for the past 3 or so trips to the gym. The weights are heavy enough that I'm able to lift just enough to complete my sets (I'm doing SS), so I'm sore right after, but that soreness goes away after an hour or so.

Do I need to be doing anything different here, or is that not a problem? I ask cause if your not sore, then that means your muscles aren't being torn, and thus won't grow, right?

Feeling sore is not an indicator of a good workout. As long as the weights keep going up...

Fat cells (adipocytes) are like little bags. The more fat you put in the bags, the bigger they get. However, the bags can only hold so much fat. But lucky for us (or not) our body is a fantastic storage machine built for survival. As a result, it can also increase fat storage by adding more fat cells. The more fat cells you have, the easier it is for your body to store fat. This is where the problem comes in.

When overeating for a significant period of time, your body increases its number of fat cells. While you can make the existing fat cells "smaller" by emptying their fat content (fat loss), it's impossible to remove fat cells without surgery.

You sure about that?

I don't think this is a big concern unless you go from skinny to fat. Even then, it's not like you can't become shredded after being fat. So I don't see why your fat cells count would matter that much.
