I know me personally I couldn't bring myself to just eat fast food and greasy fried shit exclusively. I would feel like a fat ass even when I'm pulling 400 lbs but every person has different fitness goals. Some people just want to get strong no matter what (which means eating a shitton of food) and some just want to be aesthetic.

Two jalapeño doubles and jalapeño kettle chips. Oh yeah!

Rocked out 425, 440, then 415 for 8 singles and some paused squats. Not where I'm wanting to be,but there's still some time left.

For a while, probably.

But then you will either get older, have kids, eat worse or all of the above and get fat. I'd stick with it now.
I would say it would be much easier to take control of my diet once I start living and supporting myself.

The reason diet is hard for me right now is because I'm not the one buying/making the food and I go with what my friends eat (usually junk) whenever we hang out together.

If I can't take control of my diet, then the gym feels like it would be useless to me. My goal is for aesthetics.

That's a defeatist attitude. At least you can stave off some of the fat gain by being active in the gym. Worst comes to worst you at least build strength thru dirty bulk so that when you do take control of your diet, you can do a cut and be ripped.

Yeah, and if your goal is something on the leaner side you really can outrun a fair bit of bad diet. When I was running 30-50 miles a week of trail running I could pretty much eat whatever I could shovel into my mouth and get away with it. Now that I'm not doing insane cardio anymore I feel like I'm getting healthier and stronger, but you can burn off some crappy eating and look lean if you so desire.

Would I be cured from shortness of breath and energy if I exercised daily but remained on a careless diet?

I also want to know how important weight lifting is as opposed to just any other exercise.

Apologies for all the noob questions and repetition of asking.

If you are trying to get big and strong, weight lifting is pretty damn important. Care to post a pic of what you are trying to look like at your end game? Getting the pecs and abs are easy but I think just having those are a bad look. Traps/upper back/shoulders are much more important.

I am coming up on a full year of 5/3/1 and the end of a 2+ month minor cut. I think it is time that I admit to myself my interests have changed, and while strength is still important to me, I think I want to focus on aesthetics going forward. With that said, I think 5/3/1 as-is isn't ideal for me/my goals and once I finish up this cycle/my cut I think I want to start something more bodybuilding focused.

Any suggested programs I should research? I believe 5/3/1 has a body building variant if I remember correctly from reading the book, is it worth considering?

Any advice is appreciated.

I should mention, I'd still like to incorporate barbell movements (bench, squat, deadlift, front squat, OHP) if that is feasible, which I suspect it would be.

with the nutrition thread i was thinking for it to be goal orientated....

like

want to lose weight - eat this and avoid this

struggle to put on weight and want to gain mass - eat this much and this stuff

quick protein meals

cheap protein meals

etc.....

could go on but yeah just lots of different questions that we could fill the blanks in with by providing recipes, budgeting tips and shit.

Like I'm sure we could just make a very general thread, however if the whole thing spills over into a debate then it would be good if people who have very little idea on the subject and want just simple answers could just look at the OP and have an idea where to start.

Dat nutrition thread needs to come soon.

Who eats ice cream before bed? i heard its a good source of casein protein. I would love for someone to tell me that ice cream is safe to eat.
I guess these kind of question really depends on which research group and persons you ask. I can't find the study but it showed that the type and time of intake of proteins after workouts don't take big effects in a time range of about 24h.

Calorie intake comes first though and this is no opinion.

While that is true, you need the funds to support that and controlling a diet isn't necessarily cheap. Then you'll get married and it'll be stuffed again anyway.

The point is you can control things all you want diet wise, but sooner or later it'll go out the window. It pretty much happens to everybody, a trip overseas, a bad month at work, an injury, whatever.

The best approach is to change your body and your diet. That way if one of those things slips, which it will, the other changes you have made can make up for it for a while.

And it just gets harder and harder as you get older. So start now and go hard!

Nah... all it takes is instilling a strong aversion to certain kinds of foods within yourself. You'll condition yourself to choose not eating at all over consuming those foods outside of very specific occasions.

That's how it worked for me at least!

I know that feel :( :( :(

Eating about 3000 calories is a bitch though but I need to if I want to lift heavy i guess

Ended up eating about three thousand calories worth of pizza tonight. Funnily enough it wasn't that far off my macros.

Well. After some thought I called and changed my lever to a single prong. The Inzer belt I have been borrowing from a friend is a single prong and I love it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

That nutrition thread should have Brolic's secret to pull 2x your body weight as the first post

2? Closer to 2.66 if my calculations are correct.

How in the world is it not cheap?

Cooking your own food is infinitely cheaper than eating out anywhere.

A responsible person will not just give in no matter what the circumstances are. I know my hiatus from the gym for 3-4 months is a contradiction, but there was a reason why I stopped.

Food intake can be different in that you can get used to eating healthy food. With exercising there are just some days that you don't feel like going at all.

Obviously that's not the same for everyone but it is to me. You say to "change" now but that won't make a difference if you say that I'm going to give in anyway.

Really surprised you guys didn't go for the efts P2 belts, but inter is quality too.

As for what multiplier to put next to my pull, it doesn't matter since it's not 3x.

Mostly because I tried an Inzer and really liked it.

Well I'm not going to let anyone sell you short! You don't have to correct them because I will.

I'm going for 3x bw next Friday the day before I turn 35. Dis shit is happening! Cue the Ron Paul Gif.

I have no doubt it will finally be yours. Be sure to record that shit, it will be something to be very proud of.

Absolutely. It's a certainty. Then on to working on a 2.5x squat!

EDIT: And just got home and weighed myself at the usual time and was 176.5. Perfect! 176.5x3=529.5! You hear that 530? Yeah, that's me. I'm coming for you!

It's not fat, it's power fluff, and I'm ultra powerful. Lol.
Hey I've definitely got my fair share of power fluff haha. Not hatin at all. My goal is definitely to be strong as fuck and maybe do a couple meets to see where I rank. Just don't like giving people false confidence about where they stand (not referring to FE in this case, since he was bulking and clearly knew what he was doing).

Anyways I crushed squats today, 4x9 @ 265. Tweaked my back a little bit, but its nothing some foam rolling and sleep won't cure. Surprising how much easier the high rep stuff has become. Something about only putting 265 on my shoulders compared to 305 lol.

you know whats fucking scary? having both your hamstrings cramp during the descent portion of a squat. it didnt help with the fact that i havent squatted in nearly a month due to reasons.

@yams: spices + salt. mix and match to see what works well

1st year of lifting I didn't give a fuck about food. I are McDonald and gallon of Ice Creams in two days.

Yr and half later, check my cholesterol and its borderline high. So yeah watching wat I eat lol

Just pulled a 5 lb. pork butt out of the slow cooker after about 18 hours. I can't believe I've never done pork in this thing up until now. This is delicious. And simple!
