They have no means of identifying how many plates you're squatting, therefore they are useless.

If you take the band off and put it under your feet, it can detect the amount of weight, and rate of ascent and descent and can semi-accurately report it.

I definitely did not just make that up.

I had a nice leg day last night. Nothing crazy with the weight, but I went really deep on all my squats. I even did a few pause squats to finish it off.

Another fun little extra for me is that when I do some accessory work such as hack squat and calves. I actually squat down to pick up the weights.

I got into a conversation with a buddy. He mentioned that his Pakistan uncles are still squatting 405 1rm in their 50's. They attribute it to the fact that Pakistan like other countries in Asia don't have toilet seats.

Dat Asian squat.

I'm tempted to destroy all my toilets to get my son used to squatting when he poops. Get him started early.

That might have prevented that terrible bodybuilding.com forum tragedy where the guy pissed and shat all over the floor and the tub of a first date's bathroom and tried to dissolve it using the shower.

How does someone miss that badly?

How long is a piece of string? It depends on how much muscle and fat you put on during your bulk surely? I probably wouldn't bother with anything less than three months worth of bulking before a cut, but everyone is different.

hey guys been out of the game for awhile.. BUT - im thinking of starting my home setup finally. I'm wondering if anyone here is members of some other boards that might be tracking Black Friday deals on equipment or if maybe we could start tracking the deals here on fitGaf. What do you guys think ?

Bleh. Fit folks, if you start taking up rock climbing please be more careful than I was. The tricky bit here is that compared to average folks I'm in pretty solid shape for climbing. I'm not carrying a ton of extra weight, I have great balance, my arms are strong with pulling motions. But that actually can lead to more issues, when the rest of you is strong you can more easily put yourself into situations where the smaller tendons in your hands and fingers just can't hold up to the strain that your body gets put into. The experienced climber that I was starting with basically told me that I'd be at risk for this type of stuff since I was strong, but not a climber. And sure enough, my third time out I had to quickly hang all of my weight off of one hand coming off an overhang and sprained one of my pulley tendons pretty bad. If I wasn't as strong I probably would have just fallen, but by hanging my weight I totally fudged up my hand.

http://www.nicros.com/training/articles/finger-tendon-pulley-injury/

Luckily I don't seem to have popped the tendon, but the recovery is still annoying. The rest of my body still seems fine, but I can't grip easily with my right hand so lots of my usual fitness stuff is off the table for a while.

Someone I know keeps inviting me to try that. I suspect I'd be ok though as I have shit upper body strength so my grip likely exceeds my pull anyway.

Been digging on these mashed sweet potatoes...they're delicious. Probably not great with all the preservatives they add tho.

Alright, I'm trying to get down to a good bodyfat percentage since I'm still overweight but not obese, got that belly fat. I'll go on a surplus for four weeks and see how my body reacts to it, if it ain't good, I'll just remain at my same weight and try a cut again in February.

Damn, luckily the only redeeming quality I have is a strong grip. Building my upper body has been a hassle, only real growth I see are in my quads and hams, the struggle is real.

On a random note...

No one can say. It depends on:

1. Weightlifting advancement
2. Fitness goals
3. Tolerance for body fat
4. Age, health, other factors.

I add 5 to 10 pounds depends on the exercise, as said in OP. I'm making pretty good improvements weekly, haven't plateaued yet.

I'm 188 right now, trying to get to 165. By the end of this cut in 5 weeks, I should be around 182~

My body primarily stores fat in my gut so maybe I have a low tolerance? Idk

Also, I'm 23, good health wise, had some cholesterol issues but that should be good for now since I've switched to a better diet. I'll try and see what works.

Yeah. Though in all honesty I suspect that rather than grip / pull the actual root cause of my injury is over-competitiveness. I should have been smart about building up more of a base, but I just can't help but keep trying to climb those harder rating bouldering routes when I see them. Excited to try to get back to it when I heal up though. I'll need to start practicing more static hangs in addition to my pullups.

They really need to sell these things in smaller portions...because how do they expect us to not eat the whole thing? Mmmmmmm

dem mash sweet potatoes are glorious. from time to time adding a little bit a butter makes it go a long way. if you want a better alternative, look at my name.

This football season has given me a clear diet plan for the rest of my years. I have everything so dialed in during Monday-Saturday that there is no amount of food I can eat on Sunday that doesn't have me right back where I was on Saturday. It's so very comforting knowing I am in complete control. Keep working guys because if you can get to a point where I am at right now the food/aesthetics balance aspect of life is awesome! I feel like I just discovered the Contra cheat code!

First build muscle mass you will be comfortable with for the rest of your life. Second, cut down to a bf% you prefer. Third, eat between 1800-2300 calories a day Monday through Saturday. Make sure to get plenty of protein and fats with minimal carbs. Probably about 150 or below. Fourth, eat whatever the hell you want on Sunday and enjoy being able to wake up the next morning full as shit with abs. Repeat...

I also prefer to lift on my Sunday. Preferably a big body part. It's been back lately. I lift 5 days a week and run about 5-6 miles a week. Bingo! Up, Up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start, Select.

I've been able to hit this stride a few times but not consistently, its tough Cooter. I gain back a pound if I go too far on carbs on cheat day... I can barely eat as I used to as is so its vexing.

Ok well I wouldn't cut down too much just yet as you are still new to the routine. No point cutting down to skin and bones. Once your squat is 300 for sets of 5, your bench is 200 for the same, dl 350 for a single set of 5, overhead press 135, and you can do two sets of ten chin-ups then start to cut down. You will be happy with the results, and limiting your calories to deficit levels limits your recovery and ability to gain muscle. Your body should hover around the mid teens if you're training hard and eating pretty big.

FUCK YES.

I upped my squats today to 160 lbs. The past 3 workouts I've been able to progress each time. I don't think I've done that since I started lifting. Woo!

There is one problem though. My elbow joints are starting to hurt. This began the other day with my last deadlift, though I don't understand why since I've lifted heavier than that before. This made my pullups unfortunately more stressful than they would have been.

Any advice?

My squat is 180 max for 3 sets.... its gonna take me a while haha. my dl is at 120 right not which isnt much but ive been lightly adding weights and just working on form, gotta get those vertical shins and straight back. my bench is at 110, im so weak at doing bench... all these weights started with a naked olympic bar, 45 pounds so im pretty content that the gains in weight. ive worked out on multiple occasions before but never had a regimen so i just screwed around in the gym when i used to go in high school.

ive plateaued a couple times so i had to go down in weight and climb back up again. im eating around 1800 calories a day, 1600 on rest. ill bump each up by 200.

To add to the fun, I seem to have pulled something in my left shoulder near the collar bone. Fuck knows how, it was a rest day and pretty much the most strenuous thing I've done is open a car door.

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place, but I just have a question.

So I'm trying to cut back on the amount of food I eat, and also cut out the poor quality. I still have breakfast in the morning, at 12 I have lunch, around 5 I have dinner. Around 8-9 I have a piece of fruit.

The problem is that at 8, I get an incredible appetite. It is so strong that I cant even sleep. Usually, I'll just grab some junk food that I find and I'll eat till I'm stuffed. I have been doing this for a while and my body has suffered for it.

I'm trying to cut out that appetite. I think my body is so used to it that it expects food, and an apple just doesn't satisfy it.

What can I do to get rid of it? Is there a protein shake I can drink that doesn't have calories?

It might just be me... but 17:00 seems insanely early for your evening meal. What time do you normally go to sleep? I'd personally go for more like 07:00 (or whatever), 13:00 then 19:00. The odds on you being particularly hungry before bed then would be significantly reduced.

If you wanted a snack (of fruit) then you could have it between lunch and dinner and not likely go mad because you know your next meal isn't far away.

Or you could go crazy and do intermittent fasting... not eat from 00:00 to 15:59 and get all of your calories between 16:00 and 23:59. Can guarantee you wouldn't be going to bed hungry. :D

When it comes to weight loss, you can't outwork a bad diet. The reverse is true for pretty much every other aspect of fitness (cant rely on diet to gain strength, endurance, mobility, lean mass etc... if your program is poor), but for fat loss, diet is paramount.

Oh I know :( I've been trying but work has killed me the past few weeks. But soon I'm moving to something else in the company and it won't be as cray and I can get willpower back and be better. :(

carbs too low in your diet? if thats not the case, try eating later than usual. instead of 5 (which is a early for dinner imho), try 6 or 7.

So, does Goodlife Canada in Ontario charge $30 biweekly?

That's around $700 a year. Is there no other membership plan?

It seems I'm better off going to a rec center

Or is L.A Fitness better?

I did some trap bar deadlifts tonight with a trainer at my gym who I respect who recommended them. Totally different lift and way easier. The starting position is so much higher and it really makes a difference. I finished with 3 sets of 3 at 495 and I had much more in me. Pretty cool lift. I might rotate it every other week with traditional DLs.

Just curious, are you ever gonna cut at any point?

Ha, funny that I check in on this thread when everyone is talking about their injuries.

I've been having serious pain in my left wrist/hand between my index finger and thumb for weeks. The pain is crippling when my trying to lift anything with my palms facing upward or inward but virtually non existent when lifting when my palms are face down. I literally can't even lift something the weight of the Brita pitcher in my fridge without sharp pain and weakness.

I've been to the doctor and haven't had any luck determining the issue yet, I've had X-rays that didn't show any issue. I'm making an appt to see a specialist soon but in the meantime I thought I would check in here to see if anyone has had a similar issue?
