Massive temperature swing in the afternoon will help mercedes in qualifying.
Same thing as last year when ferrari won FP3 and mercedes dominated as soon as the track got warmer.
I'm not saying this can't happen, but why do we still extrapolate from previous years? The cars are too different. Previous strengths and weaknesses are kinda out of the window for the most part.

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous.
Mercedes still has problems getting the tires on temperature. Just like last year.
I hope Ferrari is competitive but this track is very dependent on it's time of day. Even in testing the fastest laps are done in the morning.

Palmer is bringing a couple mils to Renault but it's nothing huge.
I doubt they're that desperate for money so the driver market must have been unfavorable to them. Remember how everyone and their mother outside the top 3 was linked to a renault seat last year?
If the rumors are true, McLaren (and Mercedes) are basically just waiting until Honda announces the split themselves so the Japanese can save a little face

To be fair, it's Auto Bild... but rumors are rumors.
There's some money of course, though it also helps that his father was a former F1 driver and presumably has good connections - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Palmer
His seat isn't also completely without merit - he won the GP2 championship in 2014 after all in the Renault-linked DAMS team - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_GP2_Series
Yeah but in his 4th year. General GP2 rule is, you show promise in your rookie year and win/fight for the championship in the second year, otherwise you're probably just better due to experience.
Thought he was already on a 3rd turbo? If this is a full PU then he's now at 4.
All the previous turbos are reusable according to Ferrari.

Yeah, I think that's the case.
Means they now can't bring an upgraded turbo without a penalty, not sure why you'd use a new part if you can use a used one and save that opportunity.
5th race and they've already run 4 turbos.

So if the McHonda divorce rumours are true, why would Honda stay in F1?
They still got Sauber, and Sauber isn't in a position to complain?
Time might even be tight to make it to Q1

Why develop a PU for.... Sauber? Unless Honda drops some serious cash in Sauber to prop it up, they're backmarkers.
Sounds good to me.
Most of the drivers don't take it seriously though, crash into each other and stuff.
