Isn't the show basically made to arouse the audience? Either in the literal sense, or the figurative sense. Thats what media like this is made to do, force emotions out of you. Sadness, hate, love, passion, its all just over designed and tested to get a reaction out of you. Be it a great bit of dialogue, a rousing speech, an indulgent sex scene or a gruesome Red Wedding death.

I think you're using the word "arousal" in a way I wouldn't in this context. So I'm going with a no on that one. Some scenes are better handled than others. Like this one was okay, but I think I saw all I needed to early on.

Edit: I think you make an interesting point. But I do think you can have a romantic scene (even one that conveys lust, passion, etc) that continues the story and is engaging to the audience without it being pornographic and certain sex scenes on GoT seem to cross that line.

My problem with the sex scene is the white walkers are coming and we get an 8 minute oerlong sex scene.

Important shit is glossed over but we get a porno scene, lol

That one in the cell had fantastic breasts though.

I need her to make it. She's...ugh she's perfect.

She's very pretty but I know her from a children's show my daughter used to watch called Mia & Me, and as a result I found her nudity really uncomfortable.

My prediction

End of Season:
Yara, Euron, Jorah, Ellaria Sand, BP Sand Snake, Ollena, Qyburn, Tarly (Sam's father), Grey Worm

End of Show: Cercei, Littlefinger, Jon, Arya, Dany, Theon, Jaime, Mountain, Hound, Benjen, all 3 dragons, Night King, Ghost, Nymeria, Melissandre

Main survivors: Tyrion, Sansa, Bran, Sam, Missandei, Varys

Nymeria will show up to protect Arya and end up dying.

The Hound will die doing something very honourable.

I can see Drogon being the only dragon to survive. Maybe it'll be wild if Dany is dead.

I can see Cersei going full on Mad King and Jaime having to take her out.

As long as Brienne and Pod survive I can deal with most of the other stuff.

I feel like the backlash against sex in the show has reached fucking ridiculous levels.

They've had sexual / romantic tension for seasons, Grey finally opened up about his emotions, the nudity was Missandei embracing him in a way that nobody had and making him feel at ease about his mutilation.

I don't even care about nudity and sex for the sake of it - it's nice to look at attractive people naked and I can do it all day long - but I don't see how people think that one scene is anything other than 'justified'.

Yeah, it was actually a sweet moment for both characters.

How is she no one? She left the process of becoming no one and actually is Arya Stark. She doesn't even pretend to be someone different to specific people.

Who cares what naysayers say?
I do. You'd have to be a fanboy to argue that this show is free of any blemishes or imperfections.

The good sex scenes tend to get my wife in the mood, so I say bring 'em on.
That's great that it worked out for you but because the sex scenes in this show are often explicit for Tv's standards they turn off a lot of other wives in the world - and I know that for fact.

EDIT - If I'm a pervert for appreciating that actress's body in the previous episode, then so be it.
If we are considered perverts for appreciating that woman's (dont know her real name) body, send us all to hell.
So if they had the sex scene but didn't show all of Missandei, would you both be saying, "man they ruined that scene! I wanted to see it all! They fucked up!" ?

before this season premiered, I have seen comments saying things like "all i want from season 7 is some sansa boobs LOL" or "kinvara will be back because we didn't see her boobs yet LOL" if this is something you look forward to out of a Tv show it's really regretting to me.
that "when i was a child" speech was enough to make them irredeemable
which speech was that?
If the sex scenes are done to arouse the audience, then they're not really there to tell the story. People want to talk about bad writing... recall the sex scenes from the first season...
yep. from season 1 to now it's never been something that I looked forward to when it was on screen.

that is what entertainment is for, but if we are to going to use the word "arouse" in a different literal sense with the specific definition of: to stimulate sexually then it's not telling a story, it's serving the same purpose as pornography.

Can't believe I forgot Brienne, Tormund and Pod.

I could totally see a scene in which Brienne gets a horrific injury but Pod saves her.

I could dig both of them making it out alive.

I'm really afraid Tormund will not make it past S7 :(

Yeh i understand that but ahe is different now. She can take on other forms now and perhaps the wolf could sense that? I can see where you are coming from.

No not at all. I dont watch the show for nude scenes, if i wanted nudity i could just watch porn. It was hardly different to any other nude scene from the show and it is actually showing growth from the perspective of greyworm imo. We have already seeb missandie that naked before. However i do think showing greyworm go down on her is a bit too much

I assumed it was more because she was in Arya's care for all of 14 minutes and has been on her own for like seven years now. I mean, literally, she was found in Season 1, Episode 1, and she ran off in Season 1, Episode 2. She didn't exactly grow up with Arya. And I still think Nymeria recognized Arya, but is very much like "I've actually got my own thing going on now, so I'ma just keep on doing that, but you be well."

I agree that this was an important development for GW; I said as much earlier he's my favorite character, but showing all of Missandei wasn't necessary to show GW's development. The characters in the scene are naked; we know they are naked, to show all of the goods on screen to the viewer, seems like it is purely to please the viewer.

Understand you completely. I feel like a lot of these scenes are there completely for fanfare. We can go back to the dany debate about how she will not do nude scenes anymore. Also agree with you about how fans post/comment over the internet and are just waiting to see sansa or whoever else naked..but its the internet and that mindset will probably never change.

Atleast it wasnt all missandei and they did show gw aswell. It was probably the most intimate scene i have ever witnessed from a tv show.

I hope we get to learn and see more of the White Walkers/Night King hierarchy and structure.

So far we have seen only that one scene when a baby is converted in front of what looks like a council.

Would love to see that aswell. Do we know if they can talk yet. I only recall scenes where they kill.

One would think that by the way everyone in the show seemingly teleports around, we'd see walkers at the wall by now. Curious how long they're gonna delay that scene in the show. The time it takes for Jon to get to Dragon Keep seems like way more than enough time for shit to go down up north. I mean they have to be at the wall by the end of the next one no?

It wasn't 8 minutes or anywhere close to porn, but people sure do love to exaggerate their criticisms.

Urghhh...the amount of asspull they did to give an edge to the Lannisters really piss me off.

Oh hey, a wildfire...oh hey, we can turn that strong as fuck guy into an obedient zombie, oh hey, a giant crossbow that can kill dragons...

my prediction was for the wall to come down in the season finale. if they can just walk around it then there's no need

I want the season finale to have Colossal Titan level of Army Of The Dead appear and punch a hole into the wall and every Night's Watch be like :O and then died to the debris.

Man, you can say the same thing about Dany or Jon Snow.

The Wildfire under Kings landing has been a key part of the show from the very beginning. The Mountain was just as obedient when he was alive

Agreed. It's a bit disappointing that it's "just" a ballista, but it's fine. Not a big deal.

Except that siege engines were used in Dany's assault on slaver's bay and those trebuchets are far more complicated than a ballista. To say that no one had thought of this before when they have full working mechanism for massive gates and the know how to build massive ships built for sailing seas, etc etc. is fucking rediculous. And no one thought of this shit when Aegon the Conqueror came? Unbelievable that this civilization would not have had this before. But there are far crazier things going on at this point, and the show has totally abandoned any sense of rationale or sense of well constructed lore. It's been nothing but violence, tits, and contrived 'motives' and unbelievable coincidences to drive the story forward ever since the hound randomly met Brienne in the middle of fucking nowhere in broad daylight on a mountain top.

It's pure pulpy nonsense. Beautiful, well shot, technically masterful nonsense. For what used to be one of the most intricate plot fueled shows television has ever seen to a massive heap of whatever will service the fans. After a certain point, emotional payoff just presents itself as cheesy thumbs up.

'Writers'. You can notice a massive drop in quality in dialogue as well when they lost source material. Aside from a single scene when he was made Hand, Tyrion had no lines in season 6 that weren't a pointless joke(normally in someone's expense, when he is supposed to respect the 'broken' when no one else will) or a statement of the complete obvious.

And no, with all of the wisdom in her council, Dany should have known the most efficient logistical methods to carry out her plans. There was no reason for Dorne representatives to sail half way across the length of westeros just to have a chat. You're just fooling yourself if you think it has anything to do with 'respect'. The show writers are obviously fucking tired and don't have the time to wrap up everything in an acceptable manner, so we get dogshit like this. Complete, utter stupidity and timelines that do not match in anyway concerning travel routes that can only work in the 4th dimension.

Looking forward to the show, but all it's abandoned well thought out political intrigue in order to repeatedly chase the shocking high of the red wedding that made it so popular.

If one hair on that sexy ass ginger beard gets harmed I will rage harder than the Mad King.

He's universally liked and has no real purpose anymore. The wildlings(what few hundred are left after battle of the bastards...) know what needs to be done without him. Tormund is as good as dead, and it will be Jon or Brienne who destroys his animated corpse.

No, by that I mean who gives a shit if someone says this show is nothing more than porn? If you enjoy the show, you shouldn't let others' thoughts bother you.

That's great that it worked out for you but because the sex scenes in this show are often explicit for Tv's standards they turn off a lot of other wives in the world - and I know that for fact.

Sucks to be those people, though really, if they're that upset about nudity and sex on TV, they probably wouldn't have made it to season 7. Wasn't there a scene in the very first season with some dude watching another dude getting off watching two people fucking? I mean come on. It might be time to get over it.

So if they had the sex scene but didn't show all of Missandei, would you both be saying, "man they ruined that scene! I wanted to see it all! They fucked up!" ?

Of course not, though my wife was (jokingly) upset that they didn't show what was going on downtown with Grey Worm. I was perfectly fine with just the ass shot. :p

before this season premiered, I have seen comments saying things like "all i want from season 7 is some sansa boobs LOL" or "kinvara will be back because we didn't see her boobs yet LOL" if this is something you look forward to out of a Tv show it's really regretting to me.

Again, who cares? If those people are that obsessed with seeing boobs, then so be it. To each their own.

that is what entertainment is for, but if we are to going to use the word "arouse" in a different literal sense with the specific definition of: to stimulate sexually then it's not telling a story, it's serving the same purpose as pornography.

It can do both, champ. ;)

For example, seeing Melisandre disrobe can both tell a story of her trying to seduce Jon Snow, and at the same time get the viewer all hot and bothered.

Season 8 has to be exclusively about the White Walkers. If they still spend time on Cersei vs everyone war, I feel like they're not gonna deliver the WW story proper justice after so many seasons of teasing.

So yeah... hopefully they're done with Cersei on this season. Or at least, she realize how real & serious WWs are that she team up with the rest of Westeros. I don't think she has even acknowledged their existence, then again, who else but Jon & the people at Winterfell has?

I'm very much enjoying this season. It feels as though things are moving at a good pace and we're getting some new story beats constantly. It feels more like a 10-part HBO show that has a lot of story to get through in a short amount of time as opposed to a retelling of the books that previous seasons were.

I'm also fine with the show adding a bit of emotional resonance to characters that previously had none.

I could see Dany and Jon teaming up and having to fight on two fronts, the undead to the north and Cersei to the south, though I'm pretty sure the show would then have to end with the White Walkers winning and everyone dying.

What's wrong with pleasing the viewer every once in a while? I agree the scene dragging on for too long, but I had no issue with the direction they went with other than that.

You'd hate Spartacus.

To be fair, it's probably not that they've finally managed to build ballistas. They might be expertly crafted ballistas (and bolts) capable of hitting (and properly hurting) flying dragons while any prior ballistas were highly ineffective.

But all we can really do is guess since the show doesn't appear to be interested in diving any deeper into it.

BTW did Dany lost her entire naval fleet in that battle?
Weren't they basically just taking Ellaria and the Sand Snakes to Dorne? I'd imagine they'd use a small fraction of the fleet for that. That would also explain why they were annihilated in minutes.

A regular ballista wouldn't be able to move fast enough to hit a moving target, I presume these are. If that's the case it wasn't explained well enough.

Nymeria didn't recognize Arya because she grew and changed drastically from when they last met. It's not necessarily a literal metamorphosis where she is now no one and no one recognizes her. She simply changed as a person through all the shit she's been through. Hot Pie still recognizes Arya is Arya, but also a very different Arya.

so on the rewatch, Bengie tells Bran that the wall is more than just phyiscal, it has magic in its foundations also that repells the white walkers.

If its the same magic that kept the white walkers away from the Three Eyed Raven, does that mean that bran being let through the wall is what is going to allow the white walkers through?

Honestly, I think the writers have been unclear with that seeing as we've seen a wigt past the wall before. It's also not clear why the Whitewalkers tried to kill Bran if they needed him to pass through magic barriers. I'm hoping that the Whitewalkers still can't get through the wall - it could be that the magic protecting it is stronger than the one used at the cave. Plus Bran is entering through Castle Black (I think) and the undead are heading to a different castle on the east side, so maybe that has some significance as well.
