Can't say I'm confident at all in them stretching Stannis through S4, assuming he has scenes before the arrival at the Wall.

I'm curious whether it'll be shown from multiple perspectives, and will be expanded beyond a few people shooting arrows down from a 700ft wall. Even if Noye isn't cast for this episode I'd imagine someone will fight a giant. Will we see the battle of the Bridge of Skulls, where Mance sent a distraction force to lure crows from Castle Black's gate? Should be interesting, and Marshall has a lot of time to plan things out, unlike the more last minute Blackwater process, where he replaced the director who initially was supposed to do it. I wonder who it was going to be?

Also when will Jon be arrested, then set free to negotiate with Mance? I hope to god he isn't made Lord Commander before the battle...

They could make it really dramatic by having the battle episode 9 with the frozen gravel barrels smashing the turtles, Grenn killing a giant, and other battle scenes and then end it with Jon getting arrested.

Then, for episode 10, have the Thorne, Jon, and Aemon banter, a scene where Jon agrees to the suicide mission, and then the Jon/Mance meeting and Stannis flank. This would end the season on a very high note and allow for the casting to worry about necessary ADWD casting in season 5.

Also, they could make the mountain/viper battle one of the first scenes of episode 10 (much like what they did with the hound/beric fight) and still be able to fit the crossbow scene into the second to last scene.

True. Still I'd rather have the Stannis scene in episode 9 so the finale can include Jon becoming LC. Episode 9's battle could last multiple days, thus allowing time for Jon to be arrested half way through, ten released with the mission for the final scenes.

I don't think they'll handle Stannis' flank like they did Tywin's in the Blackwater ep, where he shows up and the battle is over; doing that twice could be underwhelming to viewers. Mance rallies the wildlings and attacks Stannis while Jon protects his wife; at one point a knight slays a giant, which would be cool to see. So there are some nice shots that could be done before Stannis The Mannis cheers.

Personally I believe the Mountain battle will be episode 8, and Tywin's death would be in episode 10 if the penultimate episode focuses entirely on the Wall.

Take with massive grain of salt, could be about anything

He really brought the rage in the tourney episode in season 1, so this is great news. Whenever I read the books I always imagine The Mountain looking exactly like him in season 1, which is quite special since almost all other charachters looks completely different in my mind when I read the books.

As part of promotion for the third season coming to Blinkbox, a 40ft dragon skull was made for an English beach

I'm rather concerned that some asshole in the crowd, or possibly GRRM himself, will ask Michelle Fairley how she feels about coming back to the show.

- EW.com: 'Game of Thrones' season 4 directors chosenNot sure how much of that was known already.

Just Marshall for episode 9 was known.

Good list, great to see Graves for four episodes. I was curious to see what he did with Thrones given that his most known credit was directing a bunch of West Wing episodes, and he absolutely killed it in his season 3 episodes. Michelle and Alik are among my favorite TV directors as well.

On paper, I'd that's the best list of directors so far. Small disappointment in no Alan Taylor, but I honestly didn't expect that.

When is the SDCC panel?

This Friday, 2:50 PM Pacific Time

Oh my God, for the love of god be true, I want the duel with the red viper to be perfect.
Seriously. The new actor just didn't have the physical presence. (But apparently was also the Giant in the camp scenes, so they might be able to keep both of them around.)

Wasn't it going around that Conan Stevens was a bitch to work with though? If true, why would they want to bring a disruptive presence to the set regardless of his "presence"..

Also don't blame Ian Whyte for his portrayal of the Mountain. Blame the scenes he appeared in. They didn't exactly call for the standard "menacing Mountain" craziness.

He's only really going to have a scene or two. If he can do it even just moderately better than the other option, it may be worth it to just bite the bullet and tolerate a few unpleasant weeks of him on set.

Great news. Taylor wrote all the worst episodes of seasons 2 and 3.

This. So happy she's out and Cogman gets another episode.

I'm also very satisfied with the director line-up. Graves did an amazing job last season, and I really hope he brings his photographer with him again, the lovely Anette Haellmigk. Episodes 3.4 and 3.5 looked incredible... Far more so than any episode of the show, so far, in my opinion.

Great news. Taylor wrote all the worst episodes of seasons 2 and 3.

I wouldn't say that her episodes were 'the worst', but Benioff and Weiss definitely assigned her episodes that were among the "easier" to write (more straight-forward plot movement, less character exposition) and given that I still wasn't a huge fan of the writing at times.

So, yeah I'm a fan if this change, especially for another Cogman episode, which I've really been a fan of.

I wish Bryan Cogman wrote all ten episodes.

He wrote my least favorite episode (or maybe just least favorite scene) of season 1, but listening to his commentary on the blu-rays and based on his writing in the episodes in the latter seasons, I agree.

edit: As for Taylor, if I hadn't listened to her commentary on the blu-ray, I'd feel sad at her loss.

Now I wanna know... but I'm always too lazy to check commentaries. xD

It was her commentary on "The Old Gods and the New" which actually has one of the best scenes (and was an episode that she wrote), and changes in the series (the execution of Rodrik). That made it one of the best episodes of the season, but from her commentary it felt to me like she didn't really get what made the series so great to begin with.

Are you saying the horse decapitation was something that actually happened on set and accidentally filmed? :O

I just read The Hedge Knight, what a nice little story. Looking forward to the other two, too bad there are not more of these little spinoffs to pass the time. I guess eventually I'll have to reread everything still. :P

I wouldn't mind if they brought back Jane Espenson, since she wrote one of the best episodes of season 1 (A Golden Crown), but IMDB shows she's working on Once Upon a Time now.

Agreed, she was one of their best writers. I hope they bring her back for S5 then.

That made it one of the best episodes of the season, but from her commentary it felt to me like she didn't really get what made the series so great to begin with.
That would not surprise me at all.

- EW.com: 'Game of Thrones' casts 'Sherlock' actor in season 4
Mark Gatiss will appear in the fourth season of HBO’s Thrones. The British writer-producer-actor has written Doctor Who novels and episodes of the BBC cult classic, as well as acted on the long-running series (since 2007, he’s credited to three different roles on IMDB). In addition, Gatiss is the co-creator and co-star of another Brit-based favorite, Sherlock, where he plays Holmes’ dryly mysterious brother Mycroft. Now he’s booked on HBO’s fantasy hit next year.

On Thrones he will play …

Well, that’s something we cannot reveal. The Thrones team is keeping Gatiss’ role quiet. Maybe showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will say more at their Comic-Con panel on Friday?

Mace Tyrell? If they don't make him fat...he kinda looks a Tyrell.

Randyll Tarly, Bowen Marsh, Styr, Coldhands other options

First person that came to mind when I saw him was Doran, but too early for that probably. Maybe Mace or Randyll.

He's way too young to be Doran Martell, guys. My vote is either on Randyll Tarly or Bowen Marsh. I'm leaning more toward Tarly.

Mace is my guess. He's not fat, but Mace is a minor enough character that they probably feel pretty comfortable changing him up a bit, especially if they want to make him a bit more prominent and flesh him out in their own direction.

Bowen would work, too, but I'm kind of laughing at the idea of Mycroft as a rugged man on the Wall.

I don't think there's ever been any evidence to really support that. He was in something like two scenes.
