Game of Thrones - Season 2 - George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire - Sundays on HBO

If you think this is one of the best shows ever you really need to watch more television. It isn't even one of the best dramas currently in production.

I've seen all the critical darlings and am fans of all of them. Only one I haven't seen is Mad Men because the setting doesn't interest me.

Game of Thrones
Lost
Breaking Bad
The Wire
The Shield
24
Spartacus (only seen season 1)
Rome
True Blood
Dexter

I'm probably missing a few but these are the best dramas ever for me. Game of Thrones is right up there at the top with the best.

I finished book two earlier and I think I still like the show better. Most of the cut stuff was kinda stupid like the
frog people and sir davos
, whereas a lot was added to the interesting characters. I thought Jon Snow was worse in the show, but I liked pretty much everything else better. Blackwater wasn't as cool as I was expecting from what you guys said before. I thought the book version was kinda dumb with
Tyrion killing like a dozen knights, severing limbs etc despite both books going to lengths to say how worthless Tyrion would be at fighting

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Holy shit, I would love it if Sian Phillips got it, even though she's not exactly how I picture Olenna. Still, all the family/house political intrigue of the first season really reminded me of I, Claudius.

I don't like these kind of things because they never pan out. It's usually some fairly obscure character actor from some British soap opera or something.

There has actually been a few actors that we put forward as possible choices that ended up getting cast. Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Aidan Gillen and Gwendoline Christie, to be precise.

That being said, I don't think this will be one of those times.

Please no. I prefer fresh faces and this lady is in a million movies.

She's great in Downton Abbey, and her character resembles the Lady of Thorns in many ways; scheming, backhanded compliments, vicious humor, etc.

Overall I don't think the role would be big enough for her, and I'd rather not see the show add more big actors who demand screen time/forced content to justify hiring them (Aiden Gillen comes to mind especially).

There are a billion classically trained, older British actresses who would fit the character perfectly without breaking the bank.

Dear God,aSoS (2) is good. Just got the
reveal of barristan selmy
. Thats amazing. And my mouth stood open for a good few hours
at the death of both starks.

Technically, arstan and belwas could still be in it, right? In acok, they first appeared in the harbor, but the show ended before dany got to the harbor.

Also, i want meera and jojen and not osha. The others take her. I wonder how the show is going to fix up missing/changed side characters. I bet they're going to have osha do all the reed banter and things. And they must have both boltons in it now, right! They really sid something for the worse with season 2, imo. Still good, but bad changes.

Did jorah with the letter from varys (in season 1) appear in agot (book)? I cant remember in how much detail.

If I start reading Song of Ice and Fire at the third book, would it be a problem? I've seen the first two seasons of the show. Would it be easy to pick up at the third book? I really don't want to waste time reading the first two books. I tried to read the first book, made it like 30 pages in, and can't convince myself to sit down to read it again.

the second book is very different from the show.

So you should at least start from it, but I'd reccomend even reading the first for the backstory, character inner monologues etc.

If youre going to read the books read them all. The first book is very similar to the first season in terms of overall plot, but there's a lot of details and characters that were omitted from the show.

At least start from the second book. You will be completely lost if you start from the third book.

You can always go back and read the first book (it is worth reading!) or read a more detailed summary of it here.

Just about to start the last chapter of DWD.

I liked this book more so that GOT and COK and obviously AFFC. Hopefully there isn't some left turn at the end :p

Arstan will be in the show without a doubt. I assume he'll be introduced in the first half of season 3. I assume that Belwas will be cut, but who knows. No official word yet about either of those characters though.

Meera and Jojen will be in season 3.

Is it seriously that different? Or is it just the book nerds being critical?

You could start at book three, I wouldn't advise it though. You aren't going to know a couple of characters or how certain people got where they were. Also books 1&2 are great and don't get that boring going back through events you already know about because of the detail, better exposition, and new stuff that wasn't in the show.

This is the first time I ever heard AFFC not being the #1 book on someones list. Least of all behind GOT and COK and especially behind ADWD.

Seriously? The fan base almost universally says ASOS is the best book. AFFC is often ranked last.
