Game or games that made you realize your next gen console rocked!!!

I wasn't a 100% sure what I'd feel about Xbox, but after I played PDO I was like forget about it :D Then JSRF, I was hooked after that.

GC: Really probably was how much I liked Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil Zero.

PS2: Space Channel 5 SE :) They call me Purge...a pleasure to meet you...

ps2: ridge racer v was great, but hype and launch politics kept me from enjoying it as i should have. the first ps2 game i really loved was probably klonoa 2.

xbox: halo! fell in love from first firefight. i actually bought it for jsrf, but found that terribly disappointing.

gc: er...still waiting, i think. bought it for mario sunshine, but we all know how that turned out. i really like the pikmin and monkey ball games, though.

The three biggest titles for me that really ushered in that feeling of next-gen were ICO, Silent Hill 2, and Metal Gear Solid 2. Nothing else on the PS2 or Dreamcast to that point had the same effect. Those games went beyond the limits of what I thought was possible and all three still look great today...

SNES - F-Zero
N64 - Super Mario 64
Dreamcast - Jet Grind Radio
GameCube - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Xbox - ESPN NFL Football
PS2 - Rathet & Clank: GC

Gamecube: I had a lot of fun on launch day, but looking back only Super Monkey Ball was really noteworthy. Smash Brothers and Pikmin really blew me away a month later.

Xbox: Disappointed upon buying it in 2002, because Halo underwhelmed me at first and the other games (Hunter: The Reckoning, Gunvalkyrie) were crap. Panzer Dragoon Orta was the first Xbox game I liked, but I wasn't really blown away by anything until Ninja Gaiden, followed quickly by Rallisport 2. And yes, I eventually came around on Halo.

PS2: Twisted Metal Black. Seriously, this game owned me for a couple of months. There have been a bunch of others since then.

Dreamcast: SAMBA! It's the only reason I still own a Dreamcast.
Sega sucks.

Posting launch titles only:

PS2: Dynasty Warriors 2, SSX, Madden 2001

Xbox: Halo

I also find it disturbing that it took Space Channel 5 Special Edition for you to realize the PS2 rocks.

Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Shenmue

PS2: wasn't really impressed with it after Dreamcast

Xbox: Halo, Wreckless, Panzer Dragoon Orta

Gamecube: wasn't really impressed with it after Xbox

PS2 and Xbox were pretty even:
Halo
Ico
Prince of Persia: SoT
Splinter Cell
Ninja Gaiden
Devil May Cry
Panzer Dragoon
Madden/NFL2kX
Gran Turismo 3
Rallisport Challenge 2
SSX: Tricky
Amped

Gamecube: :lol

Silly of me not to include Dreamcast:(
I loved Sonic Adventure
JGR, one of the best games ever.
Shenmue, so quality
Soul Calibur, great till this day
Skies Of Arcadia, One of my Favorite RPGs, alongside shinning Force 3, Lunar, Grandia2 and ff7

DS: Madden DS. Even though it's not the best game, the dual screen views and touchscreen play calling really opened my eyes to the possibilities with this little system.

PS2: Ridge Racer V and Tekken Tag Tournament

Xbox: Panzer Dragoon Orta and Metal Arms

Cube: Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX

DC: Soul Calibur and Jet Set Radio

:)

SNES - Super Mario World. I loved my NES with SMB and Punchout but was ready for SNES and of course Mario was the thing to bring in the next generation

PS1 - I seen some ok games but then I saw Tekken and imagined it on my big screen. I realized the arcades could be brought home that day.

N64 - Mario 64. The definitive next gen game. It blew me away the first time I touched the kiosk. I seen Mario, my beloved Mario. In 3D. And I pick the controller up. Very intriguing controller. By this time I had SNES still and just seen Tekken in stores months prior. It was good but not like this. This was revelutionary. But.. So I pick the controller up. Seeing this 3-dimensional mario fidgeting on his own and I move the analog which felt weird. Mario reacts instantly. Holy shit... I move it in a circular motion and he has this brilliant run in a circle. Then I start jumping and see him do flips. I jump on trees. I go inside the castle and see this amazing looking environment. There was NOTHING out there to prepare me for this and nothing to make the transition seamless. This was just beyond believable. Such a great memory

Dreamcast - Sonic. Like Mario it just felt so good and the speed in that level with the whale chasing you was just so intense. Also, NFL2K, Soul Calibur and Ready 2 Rumble had beautiful animation and felt so alive. Another wonderful period in games and I really embraced Sega then. Also, Shenmue when it came out was really an amazing experience.

PS2 - I don't think any launch game really just bumped the competition up. SSX looked really cool. Madden was pretty impressive. The game's slowly came over a period of time though. Metal Gear Solid 2 from the very first video was the best damn thing I'd ever seen in games and still impresses me. The Bouncer was a mark. Jak & Daxter was really cool with it's animation. DMC in motion. Ico was a frickin work of art too. And GTA3's beauty and ambition is still PS2's most shocking game. Feeling a virtual world like that. Everybody quickly jumped on later but I was excited from the first screens cause I really liked the series. And hearing all they planned I couldnt believe nobody jumped aboard back then. GT3 looked unreal too

GC - Resident Evil's remake was quite impressive but the system was a little late to receive all the oohs and aahs. During the first videos though Zelda really looked amazing.

Xbox - Uh.. I can't say anything on this system ever blew me away either. Late, like GC, in shock value. A lot of technical graphically impressive effects like bump mapping was cool to see. But the games on whole didn't blow me away or leap frog the competition. Playing a level of Halo at night in a kiosk was pretty impressive though.

Tomb Raider blew my fucking mind when I played the demo for the first time. That was the first real 3d game I remember playing. My cousin got a PS1 before me so I had to sit there and watch that stingy fat bastard play all the time. I was still in so much awe by the beauty of 3d and that amazing looking water I didn't even care then.

Final Fantasy VIII < Square did an awesome job on the graphics department. The fight scene with the two gradens was amazing.

Other than than, nothing. I just down't care about graphics that much.
