Gears of War: Reloaded coming to Steam, Xbox and PS5

nah, this is clearly just a next gen port with some increased settings and higher res textures. which is also why it's a free upgrade for owners of the digital version. so it is their modified own unreal engine 3 version still.
Still, Gears 1 brought up somewhat up to date and on Steam is kinda worth it.

looks like it's just ultimate edition in 4K/60. Would hope they would tweak a few things to better align the tone to the first game.

Either way I'll be there day one. Glad they kept the multiplayer

It looks the same to me. Yall think this version looks different from the original?

The color grading and bloom make a big difference, which I think is especially true in motion. Some segments, like the cave in Act 3, also look pretty lifeless in Ultimate and don't have the exaggerated lighting of the original.

I realize that those effects aren't to everyone's taste, but I think it's a fundamental part of the game's look, for better or for worse.

MS is releasing games. And they do it multiplatform to maximize profits.

The far more likely reason is that it makes more sense to release the games chronologically, starting with the MCC, then stepping through until Infinite.

We're likely gonna see a Switch 2 and PS5 port of the MCC this year.

I hope so. I did play through the MCC on XSS but I'd prefer to play it on PS5. I never realized how fun Halo 3 was until I revisited it.

Damn saw crossplay multiplayer and I was so hyped that Gears of War Reloaded was gonna be the first trilogy with all the maps and Horde.
Its just the first game and the MP of that game.

Nah, im good.

No Horde No Buy.
Crossplay Horde.....PLEASE!!!!!!!!
All the Horde servers die way too young.

The first game does not have horde. Not even the remastered Ultimate Edition, of which this is a Remaster of.

It started with 2 onwards.

What is MS honestly doing at this point?

Carrying.

Its really easy math. MS has a too small userbase to recoup their investments on. So they go multiplatform and it pays off. They are currently the number one publisher on Playstation.

I know.

I thought Gears of War Reloaded was the long rumored Gears of War Collection, ive got all the Gears games but the horde servers are all but dead.

When I was reading the news I though this was going to be the games containing crossplay with PC/PS5 so was looking forward to the horde servers coming back alive.
Alas, its just Gears UE which I was never good enough in the MP to do well, so not that interested.

Now that's proper 'Sonic on a Gamecube' moment right here
I think Halo would be more of that. Pretty sure Gears of War was a 3rd party new franchise that Microsoft paid Epic to do a publishing deal for in order to keep it off Sony in the first place. From what I remember, they didn't even own the IP until much later.

Sure, but not by much.

To the casual, Gears became the new Halo hotness in the 360 era.

UE edition is still available on PC Xbox Store for $20
The free upgrade is only if you owned the game as of a few hours ago before the announcement

So if you didn't own the game before 2 months, 5 days, 9 hours, 16 minutes then you're out of luck.

As a token of our gratitude to longtime fans, Gears of War: Reloaded will be a free upgrade for players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to today's announcement. (Must have purchased a digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. A code for Gears of War: Reloaded will be delivered prior to launch of the game via a direct message to eligible Xbox accounts.)

It's also not automatic, they're just handing out keys via Xbox messages.

They're obviously avoiding ripping the bandaid off. I do anticipate a brand collapse once Halo CE comes to PS5 and this was before the price increases on Xbox consoles and accessories.

Brutal. What happened to the posters suggesting that MS games wouldn't be successful on PlayStation? :pie_thinking:

They aren't comparable at all.

Oblivion was a borderline remake, whereas this just appears to be a resolution boost and frame rate increase.

But still an old game. And this one has a Campaign and Multiplayer mode included. Improvements seemingly aren't just restricted to framerate and resolution either.

At this point, pretty much everyone already knows MS is putting their games on other platforms.

Damn, that's not a lot of GoW to randomly announce... what about the rumored collection finally on PC? Okay so whatever, this will be perfect on a decent sale but still...

Super casual fans have no idea. Even when Halo comes out it'll probably take a year plus for a lot of these people to realize Halo is even on PS5, but as more people recognize this, it'll do irreparable damage.

A campaign and multiplayer mode was included in the original game. I'd sure hope it'd be included in the remaster.

Oblivion was literally rebuilt from the ground up in a completely different, modern engine, with an entirely new lighting system, completely rebuilt environments from top to bottom, completely recreated character models, tons of new lines of dialogue added, combat/UI/leveling system completely overhauled, ray tracing added, etc... etc.. etc..

Oblivion is much more comparable to something like the Dead Space remake or Demon's Souls or Shadow of the Colossus.

Everything we're seeing of this Gears remaster suggests it's closer to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection or Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

Halo is Zelda to me

Yes all those lads playing GTA, COD and Madden while glugging Mountain Dew will instantly unplug their console and run to GameStop right away to trade it in for a PS5 Pro.
