Ghost of Yotei |OT| Jin there, done that

This is a great game and I'm still at the beginning.
Looks fantastic but I really wish the clipping of characters on stairs and items wasn't so bad.
But if it's about budget then Sony needs more studios like this producing high quality games with lower budgets.

Just finished the Spider Lily General Quest and i loved it! The fight was tough until i managed to save 3 spirit until he uses the Kusarigama just to disarm him and instantly throw it at him to discard.

I simply had no counter for the Kusarigama and it wrecked me on lethal. Also i uses the bounty Hunter set.

Started on Performance mode on base PS5. At least the cut-scenes seem to run at the fidelity 30fps option. Did some back and forth and I'd rather have the double performance over the RT.

Wish there was a 40fps mode, very odd for a sony 1P game to not have one.

People mention this eye of the wolf image to where you can adjust your brightness settings but I don't see that anywhere. Any ideas?

Just leave it on default, works great like 99% of cases.

I'm just asking where that setting is, not about leaving it to default. And I actually reduced the brightness on my B3 OLED. was too washed

I got it on the first boot of the game.

It's just the standard Brightness setting in under Settings > Display. You just don't see that wolf with the eyes there.

i've always had a soft spot for sucker punch. they've sorta been the kid brother of sony's big 5 studios (naughty dog, santa monica, guerilla, insomniac), &'ve always delivered, imo, well-built, interesting games. which's something, it'd appear, that's still possible to do at a relatively reasonable cost...

Anyone found the area slightly to north east of the beginner area where there are. a bunch of samurai that shoot at you with rifles ? I really felt there that my 1 upgrade katana was severely lacking.

I break their guard but they just dont die..
Died a few times until i killed em...

Man this game is both pretty great and pretty lame at the same time.

It's such a bizarre experience to play this.
I'm at my usual time with open world samurai games where my mind wants to play other things and likely never come back. Usually 20-30 hours.

GOT
Rise of Ronin
AC Shadows
This

Seems like these games just never know how to remain interesting past the 20 hour mark and their stories and world designs don't do enough to carry it. Combat is always good but I've done it and seen it all.

So much for not making the game a checkathon list of shit to do. SP is full of it lol.

Likely to go with fftactics now and bid this farewell. It has nothing to do with the quality of the game and just a curse for me.

Only open world game I've played to completion in like idk how many years is kingdom come 2 with 127 hours played, masterpiece.

Ok, just like the first game, I'm not getting a full grasp of the stand-off mechanic, lol.

Do I hold L1 and then Triangle? Or is it just Triangle? I always end up attacking too fast.

I still can't decide if I want to buy a physical copy and sell it after I'm done or if I will want to buy digital just in case I want to replay it.
I have a PS5 Pro disc drive and have never used it 😬

Just crushed Takezo on hard.
final version on top of mount Yotei

That will put hair on your chest. I assume this is the hardest boss in the game lol. Fuck me.

No holding, just a tap of triangle when they attack? Ok, thanks. Will give it a practice go!
You tap L1 to initiate duel. Now you hold triangle button down and don't let go until an enemy comes to hit you. Then you let it go.

Simple.

Harder than Soma? still soma is in the very first area.Takezo probably deeper in the game

Its a Special Bounty that you get from the very first INN by talking directly to the bounty Npc..he is anything but a jobber especially on Lethal.

Worth checking out.
Oh the one he mentioned if you do enough bounties he would have a special one?

Yeah. Jobber.

Definitely not a jobber, that guy was a pain in the ass on lethal. I believe he uses Jin's moves from GoT

Yes he uses a bunch of his attacks from Jins stances like the tripple thrust and the flurry attack!
I'm a lot further in the game I imagine than you guys and I can assure you that your cheeks will be readily clapped by much more challenging stuff than Soma.

Oni is harder.

Essay incoming!

This game is bonkers. Spent at least 3 hours on photo mode just around the Home location and 7 hours just randomly finding things in the open world, reliving memories, finding onsens, talking to random strangers out in the open, camping, cooking etc. New stuff keeps getting revealed so naturally with every interaction. No golden bird and no need to buy maps.

Nothing ever repeated! New lines of dialogue, new settings, jokes, clues to the main quests and other random discoveries. Was awestruck by the variety.

Thought I'd finally move forward with the main story, so I did the tutorial encounter at the inn right at the very start and accidentally learnt you can slash the propped up lamps to set the field on fire and kill multiple enemies in one shot. Had fun doing that. Then I got formally introduced to bounties. I randomly ran into black powder Ippei during my earlier exploration and got my ass handed to me in lethal difficulty. So I escaped. I still have no ability upgrades. Can't even roll. But now that I had seen the bounty board, I was tempted to try another bounty. Chose Genzo and decided to go with the wind and see how the experience unfolds.

Minor spoilers ahead, if you haven't experienced this world.

So I start riding in the direction of Genzo. I see a random settler with a broken cart, exactly in the path of the wind. I wonder, "this can't be Genzo, but let's check him out". Turns out it was an ambush. I tried a few times and got absolutely overwhelmed in lethal difficulty with no additional skills or weapons. Thought I'll come back to it and got out of dodge.

Then I ran into a random enclosure with a bunch of basic bandits. I could handle them easily without any skills or upgrades. As I pick up whatever they had left behind, this mushroom farmer shows up, who was apparently waiting for me to kill them all. We start picking mushrooms and he had a lot to say about them. Was interesting. He wanted to thank me by offering some time by his campfire. Roasted some mushrooms and enjoyed a fireside chat. Then he left and I had the option to sleep next to the horse that I named Mochizuchi. Thought I'll do that just to see what sleep and wake up animations are like with the horse. Instead, I have this dream and I'm dueling Lord Saito as a child. Had no idea what to expect and I died in a couple of hits. Thought I could keep retrying to see if there was any hope of beating him in the dream, but nope. I woke up right after the first failure. So i was like "Oh well, I'm sure it'll happen again… might as well go back to Genzo for now".

So I traverse the beautiful landscape to get to Jade Grove. Searched for him only to find another Ronin looking for him as well. Was not too hard, so I defeated him. Learn about Genzo's motivations before I reach him and start a duel. Realized I was wayyyy in over my head. There was just no chance I could beat this guy with zero skill upgrades on lethal mode. I died like 15 times so the game offered me to abandon the mission altogether. And I did.

Licking my wounds, on my way back, I was reminded of that dream. I thought… why not try sleeping again to see if I can encounter Lord Saito. I start a fire by blowing into the controller, and out of nowhere , this little kid called Taro shows up. Fantastic personality and funny too. Bought a bunch of stuff from him and I got a free outfit for sharing the campfire. He got added to my "Wolf Pack". Then I went to sleep. "See you again, Saito" I thought to myself. But nope, woke up without any dream at all.

So yeah. Failed every task on the way, but I made some friends, got a beautiful golden orange outfit and (imo) a fun story to tell. Will I dream of fighting Saito again?????

Man, what a game! If you are still comparing this with GoT after experiencing this world, you are doing it all wrong.

As I wrote this long ass wall of text, I'm thinking to myself "who would even bother to read so much". But then, that would have been the same question the devs had. Who would even play like the way I did? Totally unprepared and wandering without a clear objective? They created this organic world for people like me anyway, who are probably a tiny minority. And so, this is my way of tipping my hat to them.

Yep I hadn't even done kitsune and the fight forces so much horse shit on you for gear AND the fight itself.

Never tried it but I assume I could've changed charms mid fight to not be gimped. Doh!
