fucking EXACTLY. drives me nuts.

They talk about it because it is something they are enthusiastic about and they want to discuss it with others who may be interested. It's not that confusing. There are plenty of subjects I don't care about, I just skip them. There isn't much point in getting annoyed by it.

When the selling point of VR is "you really have to try it to be sold on it" i wonder why people keep talking about how great it is.
You're probably totally right that some people are saying it's great without ever having used a VR HMD, but many of us have been using a developer Oculus Rift for months and are already sold based on our experience.

Those topics are usually not preceded by a disclaimer like "it's really no use talking about this because you have to experience it, but let's talk about it at length anyway", as I already said. It's not that confusing.

I have not and will never play 95% of the games/consoles/hardware/etc. that are talked about in the podcats, video content, etc.

Doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile (and fun) exercise listening to them discuss it.

I've always loved listening to people talk VR. It's pretty much the only Tested content I've consumed the last year.

my interest comes from it being a completely new means of entertainment. Gaming is part of it, sure, but seeing films and programs and whatnot also trying to do something with VR means that it might be treated as a whole new medium.

I get the general exhaustion in regards to VR because it's been nearly half a decade of talk regarding VR going back to 2012 when Carmack showed off Doom 3 VR. But if it hits like people expect it to hit then, yeah, people are going to look back and maybe wonder why they didn't talk about it MORE

Audiosurf is an okay music visualiser but I've always thought it weird to consider it a rhythm game. To me, that's stuff like Ouendan, Parappa and the like.

i went down a pretty dark Audiosurf hole for a while

it's weirdly addicting in its own janky way

doubly so if you have a large library of your own music on your computer

edit: I have yet to try Audiosurf 2

Audiosurf is pretty great too.

As for VR, I fear my pretty intense motion sickness when it comes to a lot of stuff will make me incapable to play games in VR. But I'm fascinated by the concept.

Any kind of music that generates based off your music choices, I'm not into.

I'm not into 'generated' stuff in my games in general

You hit buttons to the timing of a song, how is it not a rhythm game?

Also audiosurf sucks, beat hazard is the real "play your own music" rhythm game champion

for the record, i don't mind vr talk per se. i just see a giant disproportion between the attention it's receiving and the actual games that have been announced for that thing so far. i get that the software development for vr is still in its nascency and i don't mind hearing about new projects that are trying to actually do something worthwhile with the hardware

To me, it doesn't really match up well with most of the music I threw at it, even the included stuff.

The most enjoyment I got from it was seeing how it looked when I made it play classical music, then death metal, then a podcast track and then I closed Audiosurf.

And do you really hit buttons? I just remember moving a thing from side to side.
