Amazing that the best SP this gen may also be the best MP game as well
I laugh in the faces of those who aren't getting it in the subsection of the Poll thread

If you can't find one, hell, many reasons to pick this up.. You're playing games for the wrong reason.

I didn't really see this question answered.

Is there matchmaking? If not, then how do you find games with random people? Is there parties?

I don't think people know for certain yet although this was in the gamespot impressions.

From here, you can choose to enter the multiplayer game, at which point your single-player progress is saved and your console accesses its online network. As with Burnout Paradise, you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently playing GTA IV online, and if they're in an open party, you'll be free to join them. Likewise, if you choose to create a game, you can restrict it to just your friends list or open it up to the online community.

I only know two people who are getting it. My friends are missing out.

It was asked but never answered. IGN hinted at the possible lobby system but no mention of a party system or matchmaking. Seriously, party systems should be completely standard by now.

Edit: nvm

Well then, here's hoping they're able to get a party system in. Thanks.

I thought it was all done through your cell phone. So if you wanted to jump into a DM with some random people you would just go into your cell phone, click on DM or what ever, go back to what you were doing and it will let you know when everyone is ready to go. Same kind of deal if you wanted to host your own game and invite friends.

the cool parts of these previews are all the anecdotal descriptions of crazy stuff happening- some of them are so dry, like they were just pieced together from older previews.

Ok all, OP updated with a plethora of ejaculation inducing previews. Seriously, I can't quote everything, but there are a couple of really cool moments in there.

I need to stop reading this stuff. Sure, I was looking forward to GTAIV's release before. But now I'm hyped beyond belief and the wait sucks that much more :-/

Am I the only one that expects multiplayer in this game to be annoying and badly thought out?

You'd have to give me more details on these thoughts for me to agree or disagree. I definitely think the multiplayer won't be like other traditional multiplayer first person shooters. And the scale and open-ended nature presents great opportunities, and the chance for frustrations not possible to think over or test properly until the masses get their hands on it.

Hoooooooly cow. This is the last thing I needed... I've been doing so good avoiding buying either a 360 or PS3, but this is just overkill.

Time to overturn the house for loose change and buy some fishnet stockings.

Just out of curiosity how was the multiplayer in Saint's Row? Could you do most of the stuff in that, that you will be able to do in GTA 4? I never picked up that game because it seemed a bit crude and I've never really cared for the GTA knock offs.

Didn't spend much time in it, but it had the usual variations:
-Protect the Pimp:
One team has a Pimp (Boss) and you have to escort him to another part of the map while the other team tries to stop you.
-Big Ass Chains:
Either FFA or Team. Kill people and take their chains. Then you have to take said chains to a designated place on the map to score points.
-Gangsta Brawl:
Regular Team or FFA Deathmatch mode.
-Blinged out Ride:
Kill people/collect money to upgrade your team's car. Then you have to take it to a set point on the map. However, the other team could damage or blow up your vehicle and you'd have to repair it or start over.

And a couple co-op modes:
-Turbulance:
Where you and your partner fight through the cops and make your escape with a respawn limit.
-Mob Rule:
Kinda like delievery missions, where you and a friend have to deliver "stuff" to certain points while waves of enemy gangs try to stop you. I think that had a respawn limit as well.

You had access to vehicles and such, but really only had access to "maps" within the game world.. not the full thing like in GTAIV. The best thing about it was the gang hideout "lobby" where you could meet up and screw around in before heading to an actual match. :lol Not sure what the MP options are in SR2 though. Other than full campaign co-op.

edit:
Oh, and it did the same thing as GTAIV's doing with the leveling up system. You build your character at the start and would earn money to buy clothes, items etc to customize further.

edit 2:
Oh yeah, it did at least have a proper gang (clan) system though. It ranked your gangs by wins/losses and cash earned compared with the others on Live. Do it GTA... you know you want to.

Saints Row MP had a lot of technical issues as well, and the controls were just too clunky for a satisfying multiplayer experience. I like the single player game, but the MP in Saints was definitely a 'me too' afterthought.

:D :D :D Good lord, fun overload this month. Lingering effects from Smash Bros Brawl, paired with Mario Kart, Metal Gear Online Beta, AND Grand theft Auto IV. Not to mention on the portable front FFVII Crisis Core and The World ends with You.

It was fixed later on, but no one really cared by that point.

As for the MP controls being "clunky". It was the same as it was in the SP. Which was still 100x better than any GTA before it.*

Console GTA. (Before you PC people go crazy)

Saints Row online wasn't great. I never really had too many great moments playing it. It felt too much like a wannabee Quake styled Deathmatch.

So there's tons of previews, all equally mind blowing, and this thread is already on page 2. The PS3 vs. 360 poll thread was in the top 10 threads for like 3 straight days. Anectodal proof that GAF doesn't like games.

Holy cow the multiplayer options sound amazing. Rockstar has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

The PS2 GTAs were the best selling console games last gen without any multiplayer. How high can GTA go with a massive, robust online component?

We're less than a month from release and there's still no gameplay videos?

It sounds awesome, but I don't really trust previews :/

There likely won't be until the pirates or people breaking street date put them up. R* never releases gameplay vids before launch.

Rockstar is so strange in their marketing for the GTA games. They don't do E3 presentations, they don't show gameplay to the public, and they don't release any sort of demo.

They know they have a solid product and franchise and don't feel the need to overly pimp it. Thats what big sales gets you.

I actually had problems getting games at all (although I bought the game a month or so after release)

I am absolutely amazed with what I have read so far. April 29th can't come soon enough. Thanks to newsguy for putting the thread together.
Thank you. <--- (In Borat's Voice)
Well back to reading the previews...

Yeah, no. Really sucks MGS4 isn't on the 360 though, more people would appreciate the game then. I liked it better before when it was heavily rumored to be on both, people credited the game more :lol

Some of the modes I read about before for GTA4 sounds pretty interesting though, I think it just has to do with objectives though, as they sound pretty silly and fun. Glad to see them taking character customization into account here too, not enough games allow that this gen. I'm just genuinely curious to see how well this runs online. I'd also love to see some long in depth vids on these MP play sets.

I didn't think I'd fall for it, but the GTA4 hype got me.
Me saying 1 Hit KO had nothing to do with MGS not being on the 360 lol, I've played the other Metal Gears and GTA easily 1 Hit K.Os any of them...... but then again GTA does that to most games.
