Halo 3 lighting: Best in the biz??

How is that good lighting? The fire should lit entire room and there should be some big shaows dropped.

Edit: just noticed that there is shadow dropped, on the floor, directing the fire :/.

You're also using photo mode pics, trying to make the game look impressive, let's see some direct grabs from gameplay camera.
Damn those photo mode pics crack enhance the shit out of Halo 3 I've been playing that game (campaign) on my 1080p samsung and it never looks that good ingame, I just started messing around with the photo mode and it deffinately makes it look way better then it does when you play it.

If your talking about HS the lighting is fantastic, and if your talking about halo 3 then you need to understand that nothing is going to change a halo fans outlook on their game, They have to latch on to something ever since the KZ2 coming out graphically stomped the shit out of halo 3.

Oh, that's a can of worms right there. :D

And I highly doubt many Halo fans have an inferiority complex in regards to the Killzone franchise. I mean, it's not like they need to. :lol

Tons of AA and AF will do that. You're essentially creating devshots (someone in this thread mentioned that they've basically GUIed up their bullshot creator for the mass public to use). Lighting looks OK in these shots, though... most of em.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. :lol

I never said anything about inferiority in gameplay but there is no way any person can say any diffrent about how inferior Halo 3 is to Killzone graphically especially in lighting killzone is better....it's not arguable KZ2 is graphically better lighting and all period.

*edit* And killzone 2 isn't even out yet you know it's going to look better yet.

It did...light the room. o.O You'll see that it was a total dark room. (the only light bounced is from the fire and his helmet flashlight)

And again, photomode just adds AA.

...

How is the lighting is KZ2 better cause I certainly don't see it.

Where are the mega rolleyes when you need them?

Really, seriously, you honestly have somehow convinced yourself that halo 3 looks better then KZ2 that you would make that comment? I can't believe it.....the ignorance that is.

It's all over, muzzleflashes that fill the room with light, the helghasts lights from there goggle's light up whatever they come near, and besides every website I can think of has mentioned how amazing the lighting is in KZ2.

For one, when you shoot a gun in Kz2 the blast lights up the room, and there are shadows being dropped all around, all in real time. A 2 meters long flame not lightig up everything the hell up in range of 10 meters, and no shadows being properl calculated in H3 are put to shame.

Halo 3 looks fucking amazing. The problem is, the game has to scale from regular corridor shooting to huge epic battles. Crow's nest looks meh, but level 7 is as impressive as anything I've seen this gen. The graphics in smaller environments suffer and that's why you see a lot of Gears>Halo comments. The human models/faces don't help much either.

Nothing do to with the "looking better" part of your post. I know KZ2 looks better overall than Halo 3. It's the "these poor xbots need something to hold on too *sadface*" part. ;)

Yeah well, lets wait until KZ2 is actually on store shelves before make such broad proclamations.

I didn't say Xbots, I said halo fans and I was only applying the argument to them about halo 3 and only halo 3's graphics. I could care less about what system is more powerful, but when one person comes out and claims the holy grail of epic-ness for a game that is well known for cocky unwarrented bais claiming it looks better then it really does when compared to other games......then I say comments like that.

You know I was quite impressed by the lighting in Bioshock. Watching a shadow walk towards you, to find out it's only a little girl.

It's not out yet and looks better it's not a bold statement it's just factual, it's like saying wait for crysis to come out to make a declaration of how good it looks, we don't need to we can see it already and have already heard about it from developers and others alike.

I know I brought up the photo mode earlier and some others have too and many jumped to defend saying it doesn't affect lighting.

What it does do though is allow you to move the camera around to get the best lighting, the best angle and the best shot.

All and all that is neither here nor there, all I can say for sure is that in MY experience with Halo 3 while it is definitely a great experience I think when you move it into the "best evaaar" arena it is not there.

I tried to post just the top one. All the lighting in the world...

Half of you haven't played Halo 3. None of you have played Killzone 2. And more than a few of you think Halo 3 has a "Photomode."

wait... you were trying to bash killzone 2's lighting by picking out a screenshot where the player is looking up at the helghast's night sky.........?

I was wondering that too......

Halo 3 has the best lighting in any game I have ever played. Those KZ2 gifs look great. Hope the game doesn't suck balls like the first one did. *fingers crossed*

It's not just a PS3/360 thing though. I just played some HL2 Episode 2 (360) and that had better lighting too in my opinion. Halo fans.... I dunno what's up.

But guys... please stop spamming those pics.

My game on my console of choice looks better then your game on your console of choice!

<3 GAF

Anyway, Halo 3 has some nice lighting, but everything else is average. I still love the game though.

I am comparing my play experience of Halo 3 with the early videos of Killzone 2 and Killzone 2 does look better, like some indoor scenes literally make me say wow.

Halo 3 looks really good, but best lighting? not so much.

On his armour. The light comes from the top. ;)

And yeah the lighting in KZ2 is really good too but I don't see it as better than the one in Halo 3.

Look at this one, the range of "dark" in the shadow is really impressive.

No effect should come at the expense of framerate. I don't find the lighting in Halo 3 that impressive to be honest. I'd prefer a locked 30fps and improved image quality over lighting.

Not impressed, looks good but not the best shots to show off lighting.
But the second picture there is pretty amazing for lighting, what?

I love how killzone 2 handles shadows, it looks stunning, but we have only seen videos so far plus it is like a 2008 game right? im sure halo could have pushed a few more things here and there if it wasn't out untill march or something.

Oh no doubt HALO could've looked better with more time in the oven but these KZ2 shots are from months ago and at that point in time, KZ2 had probably been in developement far less and already took HALO3 out for a woodshed beating.

Don't get me wrong the lighting is really good, but seriously man it's not as good as KZ2 any picture you or anyone else has shown has shown me anything better then what I've seen in KZ2.

I don't think the lighting is exceptional. It looks good, of course, but the two buffer HDR technique they're using just doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially given the downsides of:

1. 640p resolution upscaled.

2. Unstable framerate.

3. Poor image quality and jaggies.

I wish they would have ditched that HDR technique and fixed the above issues. They could have just gone with standard HDR and it would have been more than adequate. I'm still puzzled over WHY they chose to go that route. Sounds incredibly excessive with marginal results.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree. :D

I agree. Take level 4. The opening where you drive through the tunnel and come out into the rain. Did anyone seriously think that's what next gen Halo would like? Really?
