The show was praised for how closely the first two episodes adhered to the game's story, so by that metric, the third episode will take some flak for deviating from it. Wanting the show to continue to bring the game's major beats, story and set pieces to its TV adaptation isn't "lowest common denominator".
You could be showing 45 minutes of Ferraris crashing into walls or catching fire, not sure that company would consider that promotion. Or you could see someone talking up all the specs. Or it could just be some guy who owns one and it's never really talked about, it's just there. It's possible to be on screen in all sorts of contexts. In this case, there's nothing being "promoted" here. Was Frank jumping around being like "oh my god look how GAY we are isn't being GAY so great I'm so glad we're GAY!! Let's tell the world!!" No.

You do know it's a TV show and every episode can't be all the same shit, there's a reason this show is sooo fucking good, the sheer talent behind it know exactly what they're doing and yeah I loved Bill in the game and that entire section but fuck me man I don't wanna see the game on screen, I want to see another take on it and that latest episode was the sort of deviations I want to see, flesh out the ingame characters, go down other avenues etcLOL at anyone who 'loved' this episodeclearly they never played the game. In Bill's town you have some of the most engaging and awesome moments in the game, from their interactions between Ellie and Bill to the nailbombs, bloater, the school run with runners everywhere, they skipped all of that to give us a love story about bill and frank lol

I thought it was gonna suck when White Room kicked on and the episode started doing the whole tired and overdone: "This guy is tough, watch all of the cool shit he does buy himself, isn't he cool and so bad bad-ass" and then totally did the opposite. I loved it and would've loved a two-hour episode.
