How would you rate Nintendo's GC games this year?

Lemme see ... top 3 Nintendo GC games this year? Most disappointing? Favorite? Why?

Here's the list:

- Final Fantasy: CC (technically by Square)
- Wario Ware
- Custom Robo
- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords
- Pikmin 2
- Donkey Konga
- Paper Mario 2
- Metroid Prime 2
- Mario Tennis
- Mario Party 6

1. Pikmin 2 - The ideal sequel; it expanded on Pikmin's gameplay in a meaningful way and added tons of optional collectables, a fun multiplayer mode, and well-designed levels.
2. Metroid Prime 2 - A nice twist on the surprisingly good MP formula; the art and atmosphere are outstanding once again.
3. Paper Mario: TTYD - RAWK!! The best English conversion ever. I now want a Yoshi to follow me around in real life and pick fights.
All three are outstanding games.

Custom Robo was a disappointment.

I disliked pretty much all of those games. Not a single damn one felt fresh.

Metroid Prime 2 was the best one, but...that's not saying very much.

Crystal Chronicles sucked.

Pikmin 2 held my interest for a while, but -- like the first one -- it got old quickly. If there are anymore Pikmin games, I won't be buying them. If the first two games aren't very good, then I have very little faith that a third one would be.

Four Swords...I actually completed the game, but I never got the feeling that I was playing a real Zelda game. And I've now realized that I don't like 2D Zelda games very much, anymore. Going 3D was the best thing that happened to Zelda, just like Grand Theft Auto.

- Final Fantasy: CC (technically by Square) - 7
- Wario Ware - 8
- Custom Robo - never played
- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords - 8
- Pikmin 2 - 8
- Donkey Konga - 9
- Paper Mario 2 - 9
- Metroid Prime 2 - never played
- Mario Tennis - never played [yet]
- Mario Party 6 - never played [yet]

Let me see, my top 3 Gamecube games for 2004 would be:

Top 3

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes incontrovertible proof that Retro is a god among gaming and that Metroid will keep kicking ass and taking names for many years to come.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: Intelligent Systems are one of the kings of the RPG genre with this slice of heaven that just exudes wit and charm.

Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords Adventures: Nintendo proves that the GBA-GC connection is a worthwhile endeavor with one of the best multiplayer outings ever created.

Bottom 3

Wario Ware Inc. Mega Multi-Party Games: A cheap and quick port of the GBA game that somehow got drained of all of its awesome and grace.

Mario Party 6: Mario Party was never that good in the first place, and yet we still keep getting progressively stale and boring sequels from Hudson and Nintendo EA-esque Mario spin-off franchise.

Custom Robo: Noise's virtual robot sim really, really, really, REALLY wants to be Virtua On, mixed with Armored Core, mixed with Final Fantasy VII and just ends up being a boring, repetitive mess of a game.

FFCC (Square): Can't say, didn't play much

Wario Ware: Haven't played

Custom Robo (Noise): Haven't played

Four Swords Adventures: Very fun multiplayer game. Was nice to play a 2D EAD console Zelda once more as well (8.5/10)

Pikmin 2: Just loved it. Expanded on the good parts of Pikmin and left out the bad. The two captains helped to make the game move a lot faster as well. Suprisingly lengthy, but not too long as to become boring. (9.4/10)

Donkey Konga (Namco): A good music game that I prefer to Taiko in retrospect. Might be the drums... (8/10)

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: The second best RPG I've played all year. Surprisingly good writing and expected good gameplay. Backtracking detracts from the overall experience (9.3/10)

Metroid Prime: Echoes: I found Prime to be an absolute bore, but there was something about Echoes that attracted me to it. Still don't think it's better than the 2D Metroids, but it was a good title overall, and almost had me thinking GOTY (9.3/10)

Mario Power Tennis (Camelot): Haven't played

Mario Party 6 (Hudson): Haven't played

Overall, nice year. There were a few others I bought, played, and enjoyed in 2004 as well (and others my sister liked such as Harvest Moon). I look forward to next year though. Fire Emblem, Zelda, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Kirby. Hopefully at least one of those will be at a cheaper pricepoint late 2005. Maybe Fire Emblem.

The year started out pretty good. Crystal Chronicles was a nice surprise, but not as great as it could have been. Four Swords showed how it was done, and it rocked. Wario Ware: Mega Party Games was very cool, but I didn't have a lot of people to play it with. And I passed on Custom Robo because of the reviews.

But the latter half of the year brought about three gems. Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door and Pikmin 2 are all brilliant games with tons of play value between them. I just got Paper Mario today, so perhaps it's early. But I loved the first, and I can already see this is a fantastic sequel.

I haven't played any others, but those games would have made the year for me. Konga and Tennis look great, but I'm a little weary of Mario Party 6. I actually love the series, but my interest has wained and I don't want to pay the $50 price tag for a new one. That said, they're excellent party games, so I'm sure it's good, derivitive or not.

Paper Mario - fun game. best I played on GC for sure.

Custom Robo + Mario Tennis - 2 biggest disapointments. Both stunk.

Pretty meh year which is probably why sales sank.

Pikmin 2 - 9.2
Paper Mario 2 - 9.3

Or something like that. Doesn't matter. I think they're excellent

Haven't played the rest, but for good reason. I suspect, for me, they wouldn't touch those two.

Final Fantasy: CC - 5(haven't played multi)
Wario Ware - haven't played and don't intend to
Custom Robo - ^
Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords - 8
Pikmin 2 - see WW
Donkey Konga - ^
Paper Mario 2 - 8.5
Metroid Prime 2 - 8.5
Mario Tennis - see WW
Mario Party 6 - ^

All right, I suppose. I did buy and enjoy half of those games(Wario Ware, Paper Mario 2, FF:CC, Zelda: 4 Swords, Donkey Konga). There aren't a lot of 'classics' among that group, though.

And I'm probably not alone in wishing for at least one Nintendo-produced platformer, be it Mario or otherwise.

My friends and I get together every Saturday and play Wario Ware and Donkey Konga (among others, but usually these and Mario Kart for the longest), both are really underrated multiplayer games. Three to four player Wario Ware is awesome, and really fun for casual gamers. Every girl that has played has loved both games as well, 5 or 6 of our sisters, girlfriends, and friends. The low sales and hate for Wario Ware are saddening, don't people have friends anymore?

Zelda is a great game as well, I've played it far less though since its harder to get a game together as none of my friends own gba's (I have 3.. 1 SP, 1 SP with an imploded trigger, one old style). Cheap casual bastards.

I've only played a few hours of Metroid Prime 2 due to time constraints, I hope to play through it soon. So far, awesome. For some reason Retro's animated graphics always seem a little out of place, save Samus whom animates beautifully. My only complaint.

Never been a GC Mario Party fan. Won't try Tennis until the price drops or I break down and rent it with a buddy.

Own Crystal Chronicals but even harder to get a game going of it than Zelda.

Haven't played Paper Mario or Pikmin 2 yet, fully intend to.

If I see Custom Robo for 10 bucks I will buy it and give it a shot.

My opinion... solid year with very little mass appeal the first 8 months or so. Next year will be FRIKKEN SWEET. Now someone make this thread for GBA!

4 swords/FF:CC = double meh. FFCC was a disaster purchase and not a single GBA owning peer cared to play beyond year 1. I remain solely optimistic that some brilliance lies dormant, but I sold it back and haven't thought twice since. 4 swords was ok, i'll likely never touch it again after that initial weekend blitz.

Pikmin 2. Still only at 40% debt payoff. Didn't really entice me as much as I had hoped tho.

Paper Mario 2 is awesome. Big surprise.

Metroid Prime 2 is also pretty awesome, if not familiar.

ToS: Can't decide if this or ToD2j is the -worst- entry in the Tales franchise. Nah, ToD2j is actually much worse; but looking back, there is little in Symphonia to commend. It's like the Mario Sunshine of the franchise! A big stinking spectacle that pushes some egregious content, but the smooth control and namebrand polish carry enough weight for pity points.

That's my GC roundup for 2k4.

It's all Pikmin 2, my personal GOTY. It transformed a mediocre original game into a masterpiece. Every single aspect of it was improved and then they just added more greatness for the the hell of it!

You are such a complete idiot....

Pikmin 2 was Nintendo's best game this year IMO. Metroid and Paper Mario are both fighting for a close second but I did not like neither as much as I liked Pikmin 2.

The other games on the list are okay except for Custom Robo. CR needed some serious gameplay tweaking--there was no point in collecting parts are customizing when the game was beatable regardless of how put your robo together.

Pikmin 2 bored me. Maybe you guys hyped it too much, I don't know, but by the time I got my hands on it, it was a big letdown.

Paper Mario 2 on the other hand was fantastic. What a great game.

I'm not very far into Matroid Prime 2, so I won't judge it yet. Currently I'm finding it harder than I'd personally like and going through the Dark World is a bit annoying.

I hope next year's line up is better.

It might be hype, but I think this is really more of a case of love it or hate it. It took me a month to get through Metroid and I'm still playing PM in bits and pieces. On the other hand, I finished Pikmin 2 in less than a couple of weeks in spite of taking 30 hours for the main quest. There was just something about the whole experince that I couldn't resist. It was like playing Super Metroid or ALttP for the first time and spending every free moment I had trying to beat them.

I guess I just don't get it. I thought the reason I didn't like the original was the time limit, but perhaps it wasn't.

Maybe it gets better later on, I wouldn't know, but I find the combat pretty rubbish and the underground dungeons stupid. It's probably because they're randomly generated, but there's no decent level design at all.

Personally I'd like a Pikmin game which focused far more heavily on clever overworld puzzles. And less micro management. Actually this is starting to sound like a completely different game, there'd be no point in even calling it Pikmin.

Why am I not surpised?

- Final Fantasy: CC: 6. Just not that fun of a game.
- Wario Ware: though it's a port of the GBA game, the multiplayer madness is really awesome and fun. For that, it gets an 8.
- Custom Robo: ew. 3
- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords. One of the best multiplayer games I've played this generation. Wonderful puzzles, a nice single player quest, and beautiful graphics. 8.5
- Pikmin 2: 10. This game is just amazing. Takes the original Pikmin, gets rid of all the bad things, and improves upon all the good things, while adding awesome bosses, an, um, "unusual" and shocking story that still somehow seems like Nintendo, and Purple Pikmin kick ass.
- Donkey Konga: 7.5. Great party game, but that's pretty much it.
- Paper Mario 2: Charming. Funny. One of the best game scripts I've ever had the privilege of experiencing, with a lot of extras, and a fun battle system, as well! Have I mentioned that I LOVE the script? 10
- Metroid Prime 2: It's tougher than the original. It's darker. It has better music. The bosses rule. Not quite as many worlds as the original, but all the worlds are amazing. Sanctuary might be my favorite area in any game. A worthy sequel to the 2002 GotY. Retro Studios, I salute you. 10
- Mario Tennis: 9. Everything that I expected it to be: a kickass party game. As usual, when it comes to party games, Nintendo delivers.
- Mario Party 6: I don't really care too much for the Mario Party franchise. They're good party games, but get a little stale. The mic feature brings some needed freshness to the game, though. 8, I guess.

- Final Fantasy: CC: not played
- Wario Ware: get it tomorrow
- Custom Robo: no release in Europe
- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords: release in January in Europe
- Pikmin 2: not played
- Donkey Konga: 7.5
- Paper Mario 2: not played
- Metroid Prime 2: not played
- Mario Tennis: not released in Europe
- Mario Party 6: not released in Europe

- Animal Crossing: 8.0
- Pokemon Colosseum: 6.5

I can only comment on a few.

- Wario Ware - Awesome multiplayer game. It's no Smash Brothers, but I wasted so much time with this gem. It's a great game for a casual gamer to pick up, but playing against people who played the GBA one to death is really exciting. Nintendo's multiplayer title of the year.

- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords - Wasn't really a fan of this one. I don't care for the forced GBA connectivity, and the 2D graphics.

- Pikmin 2 - Better than the first in every single way.

- Donkey Konga - Fun game, but the tracklist was terrible. Glad I didn't buy this one.

- Metroid Prime 2 -Ahhh yeah! Just got it and love it!

- Pokemon Colosseum - The two on two battles are fun, and it's basically a Stadium for the next gen of Pokemon.

- Final Fantasy: CC (technically by Square)
Skipped

- Wario Ware
Got on GBA

- Custom Robo
Avoided

- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords
Played at friend's

- Pikmin 2
Probably should pick up

- Donkey Konga
Hahaha no

- Paper Mario 2
Will get for $29.99

- Metroid Prime 2
Can't be bothered, didn't enjoy first enough to get more of the same

- Mario Tennis
Have on N64

- Mario Party 6
Have on N64

.........however, if you gave me the GBA list, you'd see MUCH different results.

Games I've played:

Pikmin 2 - It was better than the original, but after the second half I stopped playing it (8)
Paper Mario - Awesome game. I loved the dialogue. (9)
Metroid Prime 2 - This game is fantastic. I enjoyed the harder difficulty. Awesome boss battles, music, and sound. (10)
Pokemon Colosseum - An average game. I didn't beat it. (7)

Don't have time to type up the whole list, but my favorite games this year were:

Paper Mario 2: Great game all around. Wow, funny, enjoyable, charming, etc.

Mario Tennis: Glad they didn't change the formula too much. Excellent release.

Metroid Prime 2: Gushes with beauty. Bosses are a lot more challenging. Bravo, Retro.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - Functional remake that wasn't as good as the original. 7/10

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - A boring yet beautiful piece of shit. 5/10

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - A great game with some flaws. 8/10

Still have to pick up Pikmin 2 and Paper Mario 2.

The 2004 lineup wasn't very exciting for the Gamecube. Having said that, 2005 already looks better due to Resident Evil 4 and Zelda. :D

Well, I"ve only played a couple, so here goes:

Paper Mario - 6/10

I didn't dislike the game, but it didn't grab me either. After all the talk I read about how people who love Mario and Luigi would love this game (Which I do. In comparison I would give Mario and Luigi a 9.5/10) I picked it up. The game isn't bad. But the storyline didn't grab me nearly as much as Mario and Luigi did. Plus I liked the dual gameplay mechanic of Mario and Luigi better.

Metroid Prime 2 - 8/10

Great game, having some fun. It hasn't grabbed me at first as well as Metroid Prime did. But it is a good game in its own right. Graphically, while the game looks better, I have to say I like some of the enviroments in Metroid Prime better. Nothing in Prime 2 gripped me yet like the first time I entered Pandora Drifts in the original Prime. Control, while still feeling a bit limited, is fine for the type of game it is. One thing that really annoyed me about Prime 2 is how Samus loses her equipment. She goes into an alternate world following Dark Samus, and then these ING overrun her and steal her equipment. I thought the whole sequence was kind of cheesy. Game is tough, too. I already died at a couple boss fights where I didn't die once in MP. I like the extended challenge. I'm probably only halfway done right now and my opinion will more than likely go up before I'm finished.

Legend of Zelda bonus disc - 8/10

Bought it this year so I am counting it! I never played Majoras mask or Zelda 2 so I love this compilation. The only reason I don't score it higher is because I run into glitches with the game freezing with Majoras Mask. :( No glitching this is 10/10 easy.

RE4 demo - no score

Not gonna score it since it isn't final. But it is totally sweet. Bring on the final version January 11!

- Final Fantasy: CC = 7
not bad necessarily. Just a pain in the ass to get anyone to play... and not everyone's cup of tea when you eventually do.

- Wario Ware = 8
great multiplayer title. Just want lots of new minigames now.

- Custom Robo = ?

- Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords = 9
Awesome. Again, bit of a pain to get people involved in unless I buy 2 more GBAs myself... but it's worth it. This'll be great on DS.

- Pikmin 2 = ?

- Donkey Konga = which one?
I have the PAL and US discs thanks to a trade I did with BuddyChrist83. The US one is good, but it's definately easier and has more tracks on it for children. This doesn't stop some of them being fun (ie The Pokemon Theme), but nothing on it comes close to the majority of the PAL tracklist. And mastering The Smash Bros Theme in the PAL game is nothing short of godly. Having both gets you the pleasure of two sets of bongos, and it's great in multiplayer once in a while, so I wouldn't discourage you if you set out to import whichever one you don't have.
.... PAL = 8.5; US = 7

- Paper Mario 2 = ?

- Metroid Prime 2 = 9
Multiplayer didn't turn out as good as I thought it could. A billion more grapple points (hell, a level made entirely of grapple points!), more morph ball cannons, a smoother frame rate, and support for bots would have made it great. They should really consider dual analog for Multiplayer too. People just jump about. Thankfully, they haven't spent a second less on the Single Player game in including this mode. The single player makes this game one of the best of the year.

- Mario Tennis = ?
can you play normal/custom tennis in this or not? The vids I've seen look crazy.

- Mario Party 6 = ?
^looking foreward to this

Metal Gear Solid was this year too right? was that Konami published or something? That was great! ToS is one of my favourite games this gen.

I think Nintendo has gotten over their hump of rushing games out to make the original release dates which caused problems in both Mario Sunshine and Zelda: Wind Waker. I've played almost everything Nintendo released (with the exception of Custom Robo) and I really think they have gotten their quality and polish back up to what I expect from them.

Also Mario Party 6 may be the best Mario Party yet.

Metroid Prime 2 - Great sequel. It has better pacing than Prime 1, but the dark world was a bit disappointing. 9/10

Paper Mario 2 - Has the old school mario charm. Good old Intelligent Systems. Addictive rpg in a different way. 9/10

Pikmin 2 - Polished game by EAD, but not my cup of tea. 8/10

Zelda 4 swords - Played this with my brother. It was a blast in multiplayer. 2D zelda is still awesome. 9/10

Zelda Minish Cap (technically by capom) - The game is a bit on the short side, but I loved every moment of it! Beautiful music. My personal fav "Nintendo" game of the year 9.5/10

3rd party cube games I loved this year. ToS and Baten Kaitos.

Looking forward to Zelda in 2005.

Metroid Prime 2 is my favourite game this year, i'd probably give it a 9.3. I was pretty indifferent to the original prime and i found Echoes to be really surprising. The difficulty was great for me because all the games i played this year have been much too easy (aside from Ninja Gaiden).

Other than MP2 it was a pretty average year for nintendo and all around on each system as most every single big game this year disappointed me and i am usually easy to impress.

Pikmin 2 was good. The rest of Nintendo's GC games this year were either gimmicky crap, rehashes, or just plain bad.

Maybe it's just that I don't much care for RPGs, but even though I like Paper Mario 2, it's not terribly exciting. It has its moments, but I just want to end already. I enjoyed Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, but PM2....it's missing something for me. I enjoyed Metroid 2 and Donkey Konga far more.
