I hope the Nintendo Switch 2 fails really hard!!!

All this bullshit with tariffs and inflation, as a not US person I'm I correct in saying that these tariffs are not on digital software.
If so why is the cost increasing. I'll tell you why because Nintendo are greedy full stop.
It blows my mind that people would spend $80-$90 USD on Mario Kart, when the budget for that game would be no where near that of a PC,PS5 or Xbox title.
What a delusional post.

1. The development cost for this game is massive
2. If Sony, MS, etc. could get away with selling their shovelware “AAA” slop for $80, they’d be doing it.

You seem to be missing some vital information regarding the Japanese Switch 2. The cheaper $330 model is region locked to Japanese games Only. They are also releasing a $467 model Switch 2 that is multi-language and has no region lock.

Clearly Nintendo is trying to curb scalping and/or costs due to tariffs. The console is not overpriced considering inflation and the tech it has under the hood and in its controllers.

But yeah the software price for MK World is insane.
This.

Not to mention every game will require an internet connection to download the full game from the internet for the physical cartridges because the game is not stored on those.

So a game like Horizon Forbidden West which pushed the limit of console graphics and set new standards for open-world adventure games is "shovelware" but the same Mario Kart game rehashed for the umpteenth time with PS3 graphics is the real AAA with a "massive" development cost? And you call other people delusional? :pie_eyeroll:

I have no problem paying that much if we're getting games like the ones from 2013 and before since we're always asking about the lack of great games cause that's infinitely better than paying $500+ on games every year without getting real solid content cause most of them are forgettable.
I think mkw is the botw of the Switch 2. It looks very expensive and i do believe it will be some sort of free gaas.

Mario Kart is an institution of gaming that is universally beloved and never fails to deliver a great experience. Horizon is cringe DEI infused “game of the month” shovelware slop.

*If you are one of those hardcore Nintendo Cucks that worships everything that they do, this thread is not for you.

I am not a Nintendo Hater, In fact I own a switch with over 30 of the best physical games and dozens of digital games. What has been revealed from Nintendo is nothing short of corporate greed. Just comparing the Japanese price of the console (around $310) to my country the US ($449) is just one example of this. Nintendo ever since the SNES days have a long history of being arrogant pricks. From the SNES days all the way through the N64 they were notorious assholes to work with. Nintendo first got humbled with the n64 when the Sony PSX handed them their ass combined with the fact Nintendo would not budge off of cartridges. They were a little better with the Gamecube but again made the odd choice of those mini disk. Both the cartridge format from the n64 and the mini disk from the Gamecube were mostly made because they were afraid of piracy. The psx was cracked already and Nintendo were and still are control freak's with their IP's. Then they got humbled again with the WIIU. People were screaming when it revealed it was a stupid fucking name and confused casual consumers. Nintendo is a stuibborn company and rarely listens to criticism until it hits their bottom line. They hit the Jackpot with the Switch. It was a massive success and bigger than anyone thought it would be. Here we are again with another Cycle and arrogant asshole Nintendo is back.

The only thing that is going to humble Nintendo again is another big failure. Again Nintendo has a history of being an arrogant greedy company to work with. Until their bottom dollar starts getting hammered they aren't going to budge from this arrogant behavior. I have read credible stories that the Switch 2 has been done for almost a year but they didn't want to stop the original Nintendo Switch gravy train. I get going up a little bit but going up 30%-50% on software when it doesn't seem justfied is insane. People assume that the Switch 2 will be massive success but I really hope not. The Wii was a monster of a console than the sequel WiiU was a massive dud due to marketing and just not having mass appeal. The NIntendo Cucks will pay the $80-$90 for their software but I wonder if the mass consumer is willing to do the same. AS a Switch fan they priced me out of the market. I also as a physical switch guy hate the fact of this whole buying the copy and it only being a downlaod key. The fucking point of buying a physical copy is I can play it without being online or I can lend my cartridge to a friend, or sell it when I'm done etc. Nintendo is just trying to make an all digital library. Lets hope Nintendo fails hard and show the rest of the gaming industry this shit wont' be tolerated. I understand the price of goods has to go up eventually but the Quality of most software from all companies is rarely worth the new $70 msrp let along $80-$90 plus.
It’s not $330 for residents living in Japan. 50,000 yen basically has the buying power that $500 does in the states, with wages in Japan typically being lower than the US, so it’s actually a more expensive purchase relatively speaking. The yen is just weak right now and is causing all sorts of issues. They could’ve done what Sony did with the PS5 Pro and just sell it for the exact USD equivalent cost which was around 110,000 yen at launch.

Not at full price, at increased price! They bumped both of Zelda “Enhanced edition” titles by $10. Didn’t even put the enhancement on the cart, lol.
Was mainly referring to 3rd parties here, but yes, even Nintendo is bumping up pricing in a strange way.

Very tone-deaf if you ask me.

Nintendogs got a whole new meaning after the direct.
The serfdom is fucking insane.

I don't think they're capable to be humbled anymore, they're too far gone. They'll either continue with their antics or they'll outright die.
My biggest disappointment is how fucking nothing their first-party output is for launch, it's sad because MKW and Bananza where the best games shown yesterday.

I won't buy any game for $80. I'll let some other sucker do that then buy it second hand.
I've been meaning to ask this but the way they described their "key-card" system for new cartridges feels like they will be attached to your account and if that's the case I could see they destroying secondhand market and physical media in one fell swoop. I hope I am wrong though.

Well, what’s the reason behind it?
Is it just greed, or is it actually existential? …Is this what it takes to make a game? Is this what it needs to cost?
I think the price wouldn’t be an issue if the value were there… and based on the reactions, I think Nintendo is failing to demonstrate that. But to be fair, I don’t think other companies are doing much better
I got nothing substatiate to back up my claims but I think it's a multiple of raising cost of game development, the global economy not in good shape, manufacturing cost, hardware components in general becoming more expensive, Nvidia being done with selling on the cheap to Nintendo, tariffs(?), and Nintendo... just being Nintendo.

We know Nintendo wants to make a profit per unit on both their consoles and games so that could explain why they up the price for both. And Nintendo is just coming off from a very successful generation. They may be a bit up their high horses by this point.

It's just another 10 bucks. Is it really so strange that prices go up a little bit in this day and age?
In principle, one can agree with this statement, but then there should also be a good reason why the prices are rising.

Why do I have to pay $80 for DK and $90 for Mario Kart World? What exactly is the difference compared to the current prices of Switch games? Nintendo didn't say anything about this in the Direct. Not even the price of the hardware was mentioned; people had to go to the website first, because Nintendo knew full well that they wouldn't want to openly state such audacity.

Simply raising prices because that's the way it is shouldn't be the standard to which humanity happily adapts.

The main reason the Switch sold as well as it did was due to multiplatform families. That's a hard ask now when you're now pricing $450 for the base system and $80+ for games when you're already sitting on a pile of 3 Switches with a stacked library for the kids. Going to be a looooot of sharing this holiday season.

Is it region locked? From what I read it's only have Japanese text and can be only be used with Japanese account. No mention about region lock.
Well your account is locked to the Japanese Eshop and if you put in a game card that's not rated for the Japanese game board it won't work so take that as you will

I'm not sure what the implication of this post is, that a "real" fan would pony up to buy Nintendo's stuff no matter how excessive the cost?
“They priced me out of the market”, cries the dude who prefaced an exceedingly long rant by stating he has 30 physical Switch games and dozens of digital Switch games, and thus has the time and the luxury to open an exceedingly long rant thread on a forum dedicated to the not-exactly inexpensive hobby of video games every single day.

Is it though? How many hours of enjoyment do you think you’ll get out of it? I know my family has around 500 hrs in current Switch game. I’m not a fan of higher prices but when you look at it from a value perspective. Having said that, I’ll mostly like buy less games this generation.

Then its like it used to be before: You want an expensive hardware? Work for it, get a job (e.g. deliver newspapers) or combine christmas and birthday together. How do kids get the PS5 nowadays?
Parents make mistakes, sure, but I doubt most would buy a Switch 1 just because it's cheaper when their kid wants a Switch 2. Sorry if it sounded a bit salty!

I have fond memories of working at my mom's butchery and finally being able to buy my Game Boy Color (the purple, see through one). I only had enough money for the handheld, but when I got home, my mom surprised me with Pokémon Red as a gift ❤️

The increase from 60 to 70 dollars made sense for AAA games because the cost of development is sky high. Nintendo is making A and AA games and charging 80 for them...

People had pitch forks for every company spending 200+ million dollars on game development for charging 70... keep that energy x2 for Nintendo here.

I definitely feel like we're in bizzaro world.
Exactly. Kingdom Comes Deliverance 2 cost was 41 millions USD. Nintendo don´t spend that kind of money in any of their games. If they do let's see proof.

The reveal was trash and they managed to make it even worse afterwards.
It actually made me hate my Switch and I consider selling it along with all my games.

Funny thing, I thought I would go full Nintendo in the future with all the fuck ups of Sony...

If this won't be a WiiU level failure, consumers should STFU till the end of time. They deserve everything they get.

Except the PS5 isn’t a shit console. Fuck off with that backwards narrative.

The hate boner for the PS5 because it killed Xbox somehow justifies praise for 1.5 Nintendo console who’s biggest innovations are a camera, group chat, a $450 price tag and $80 digital games?

These are things I guarantee you would have roasted Sony for and yet here you hypocritically are.

It's a shit console in comparison to its output of first-party games vs. previous Playstation iterations.

What drew me to their systems were their unique games, but now that they wanted to chase Gaas, remakes, and movie games, PS5 is likely going to be my last Sony console going forward.

For me, it's just a third-party machine at the moment.

Sony no doubt has dropped the ball on the PS5. There has not been nearly enough exclusives from Sony Studios because they spent hundreds of Millions of Dollars on that GaaS bullshit like Concord. Just look at the amount of Sony first party releases from the ps4, ps3, ps2, psx, and then compare that number to the PS5. It's not even close. Sony has also been very anti consumers but Nintendo took it to a whole different level.

I'm not being a cuck and not supporting this shit. I will vote for my wallet but have no control on what the next man does. If this is a huge success than Nintendo has just proved themselves to be correct. I am hoping for struggling sales and continued backlash so they go back against some of this shit. Jesus Christ they could not even included the Switch 2 demo with the system. They make you pay for it. It's a fucking joke how greedy they are.

Agreed, If this thing is a big success than the consumers deserve what they get. Ultimately it's the well off people who fuck it up for the common or poor man. Prime example is the GPU Market. Those rich fuckers were playing hundreds and sometimes thousands more for the latest RTX cards. It's so bad now that even big companies are scalping the product. The assholes keep buying so Nvidia has no reason to change.

I'm not defending any of Nintendo's behaviour, as some people in this thread think I'm doing.

I'm more of a "wanting to see it all burn down" type of guy, especially now with current Sony's focus on non-gamer bullshit, like DEI.

If Nintendo can make Sony see the error of their ways, I can go back to playing good games on their system; but until then, they can kick rocks.

Both are Evil Lets not paint it like Sony is even and Nintendo is the Hero to save us. I agree about DEI and politics should stay the fuck out of gaming. Nintendo with this release and their pricing structure are being nothing short of greedy bastards. It's wiping their ass and shoving it in your face when the Demo to show off the system is a paid app. I am even hearing they are going to have paid interactive instruction guides.

Anyone who is defending this, I am am looking at a blind homer and cannot trust their judgment. I love all games and not loyal to any company.. This Nintendo behavior is straight up Horse shit and should not be tolerated. Again the hardcore Nintendo fans and the scalpers will ensure this will sell out for the immediate future. I just wonder in the Long run if the mass consumers really will pay it. Lets also not forget that Nintendo almost never discounts their games. Mario Kart and Donkey kong will remain $80-$90 for years. The WiiU proved that Nintendo is not too big to fail and I hope this is a harsh lesson learned. Nintendo will only change if their stock drops. I am royally pissed about it but ultimately it will be the public to decide is their willing to put up with this.

Honestly, it's whatever. I have a shit-ton of games in my backlog, so Sony and Nintendo won't be seeing any money from me.

I think everyone should do the same.

Yea I got tons of emulators and a good steam library backlog. I will emulate the Switch 2 when it gets broken. I will stick to the OG OLed switch.

100% this.

Games going to $70 isn't fun but I understood it. Games were $60 for about 15 years already and didn't account of any inflation over those years. They got much bigger in scope than games in the past. And we got much improved graphics, animations and voice acting.

Nintendo games trying to raise the prices, after not even 5 years of current prices is just laughable. I would love for someone to truly justify why buying the new Mario kart as a physical copy has a 50% increase in price at $90, compared to Mario kart 8 deluxe releasing in 2017 being $60. It's batshit crazy

I was hype for Switch 2, then I heard the "physical game" is a mere download code.

Such a let down.
Same. After the presentation I was not impressed but planned on getting one down the road. After the details of the game prices released I automatically decided I would not get one.

I can get behind the costs of the console, I'm just not spending $80 a pop on Nintendo first party digital games.

Now that the seal is broken, I can't imagine them not following the lead. I imagine they will wait for new hardware releases.
At least Nintendo has the excuse that they have to pay for cartridge storage costs for physical copies which are significantly more expensive to manufacture than discs, but still, their digital options should be on par with the others.

I've got a Nintendo Switch too, and I'm all about physical copies – but no way I'm paying $80 for their Mario games. The Russians came through with this MigSwitch cartridge for the OG Switch; I even grabbed one just to check it out. Super handy little thing. You can use it for your own games... and, well, other stuff too, if you know what I mean. Really hope they make one for the next console, people deserve options. Nintendo's greed is just next-level ridiculous at this point.

Then why games costs €90? What did Europe do?
America is their biggest market, and they don't want to charge different prices for games per market. They might be using this to counter some of the impact of the tariffs, since who knows what will happen in the weeks and months to come. It's economics, nothing more and nothing less. They priced in the unpredictability from Trump's trade war in and that's what you are going to see for the foreseeable future. This is what happens when you elect stupid people who think they are smart but are really morons.

They would've permanently lowered the Switch games from 2017 if that were the case.

I want Nintendo to succeed just to rub it in current Sony's face. PS5 is such a shit console.
