If competition is good for the industry, why does everyone want Xbox to fail?

No, what's laughable is the sour, entitled attitude from people who think gaming is a dictatorship where only their favorite brand deserves to survive

Grow the fuck up
What do you propose? That we give the poor impoverished Microsoft a GoFundMe campaign?

It is not our job to buy Xbox products. It is Xbox's job to make Xbox products people are interested in buying. Maybe they should make that Killer Instinct sequel that everyone is asking for. Or you think Xbox can just do nothing and be given money?

Because the ones that want it to die are idiots who cant see past their agenda and warrior mindset to see the actual benefits and importance of direct competition against Sony for the consumer.

Because they're not really competition. They don't even like to compete. They try to monopolize.

But the main reason I want them to fail is for the way Microsoft treated me as a customer. I don't care about Sony or Nintendo at this point either. I skipped PS5 altogether. I haven't gotten a Switch 2 and I probably won't in the near future. My Switch 1 was barely used.

IMO the walled-garden x86 AMD APU boxes are more of a blight on the industry than anything. Nintendo at least makes sense as a device for kids.

The result of competition is that the loser gets phased out and replaced by new competition. That is why we don't have Atari Jaguar 3. Yes, competition is important, but once the competition is defeated they need to exit stage left for someone else.

Imagine if Olympic champions get lifetime right to compete in future Finals. Leading to every competition filled with geriatrics because new blood can't come in.

I guess you'll just ignore anything I just wrote because you're obviously not interested in an honest or rational discussion. My bad for thinking otherwise.
What are you even talking about? You literally just replied to me for the first time.

You should probably take a break before you completely snap though.
Thanks for the concern. I'm good, no snapping here. Just calling it like I see it. If that hits a nerve, maybe you need that break

I'm not opposed to the way things have gone, having access to Microsoft games on Playstation. Sure, Sony will bump their prices a bit because they can, but at least I don't have to buy two identical 500€ boxes to play all the big games.

The actual reality is you will be forced to buy a single 700 - 800 Euro console that's half as powerful with half the RAM of what it would have otherwise had in a competitive landscape.

MS's Xbox is an American company and we need to keep jobs here in the US. For some reason everyone here wants MS to fail and make PS the only player in the console market. This would be extremely bad for everyone.

Also, Xbox gave us Xbox Live, GamePass and Halo. Without those, who knows where we would be.

Competition for a good and we need to buy Xbox products.
Because they would have failed after the first system if it wasn't Microsoft backed. People are tired of mediocrity that only stays around because of endless pockets. We want GOOD competition.

Also Xbox did not give us Halo, they bought the company that was making it.

No not everyone wants Xbox to fail. /thread

lol But nobody is dragging the Xbox down also. They have accumulated 15 years of bad decision making, they deserve this hardship.

That's obviously false. Why do some people pretend like there isn't a Microsoft/Xbox crowd here?

In all seriousness: people want Xbox to fail because it's an easy meme to parrot. Xbox hasn't exactly been putting up the W's. They started the generation by delaying their flag ship franchise - and only launch title - by a year because of its embarrassing reveal and they went to market with exactly zero games for their next gen console. They'll end it by firing chunks of their employee base to keep the lights on while they try and keep Papa Microsoft's guillotine at bay. Their one objective was to make games people want to buy an Xbox to play. They elected to make Redfall. To my eyes, they never fixed the core issue: they have no fucking clue what a good game looks like before its released. This makes them easy targets. Which is sad - I think their hardware is solid and I certainly enjoy a lot more of their content than Sony's. But, Sony has the momentum now, and there's no stopping it this generation.
Fingers crossed Xbox remembers to bring some games for their next console generation.

- Because it should have been Sega.
- Because nobody cares about American jobs outside America.
- Because nobody likes the parent company neither their products.
- Because shifting the industry to Netflix would have ended as bad as Netflix, and nobody liked that.
- Xbox One.
- Because, yeah, they gave us Halo… only to kill it afterwards.
- Because playing online is a paid service thanks to them.
- Because their best console died frequently.
- Because they bought half the industry and did nothing with that.
- Because they are the first willing to give up and became third party.

Take your pick, I got more.

Like, who's actually saying people have to buy Xbox just to keep competition? It's basic common sense: make good stuff, people buy it. No handouts, no charity campaigns

Do you know what happened back when Xbox didn't exist? The era of PlayStation 2. Probably the greatest golden age of gaming.

I hate to break it to you, but when PlayStation 2 existed we had the Nintendo Gamecube, the Sega Dreamcast, and the original Xbox...

The 6th generation of consoles kicked off on November 27, 1998, with the release of the Nintendo Dreamcast. This was joined by the PlayStation 2 on March 4, 2000, the GameCube on September 14, 2001 and the Xbox on November 15, 2001, respectively.

Sony saw more competition in the PlayStation 2 era than with any other generation of consoles.

Sorry but this kind of thinking is some kind of derangement syndrome. I bet Sony is already concerned about not being able to drop the price of the PS5 with 3-4 years if the generation still to go.

I'm not sure if this is a joke post, or if I really have to point out the PS2 era was Sony trying to stamp out competing home consoles from Sega and Nintendo.

Quite the irony considering Sony literally doubled the RAM of the PS3 and PS4 in a direct response to Xbox, and a weak memory starved console will be even easier to price cut, deeper, and more often. So you'll get your 500 Euro console around year 4, and it'll be the technological contemporaneous equivalent of a 500 Euro Series S. Now that's what I call winning to stick it to Xbox.

This is such a bizarre post. I don't care what country they are from and whether they exist or don't, being dumbasses and making stupid easily avoidable mistakes is what's hurting them, not people on a forum. If you buy a game to keep people in a job you might need to reevaluate things.

It's a product made and sold to consumers, we have no contract outside of that. In fact, they have more power and rights over the purchases we make than we do.

Please let this be a troll post that I missed the joke on. I'd rather feel dumb for missing a joke than have this 2nd hand embarrassment.

Enough of the Xbox Victim Complex.

Nobody wants Xbox to fail. Laughing at MS that can't get their shit together doesn't mean we want them to fail.

Healthy competition is a good thing but MS isn't interesting in competing. They want to either win by taking shortcuts and if they can't win they want to disrupt the market. People are laughing that their attempts at disrupting the market are failing. If they put genuine effort and put out a great console with great exclusives like they did during the 360 era, I'm sure many would be happy and cheer them on.
Facts. Xfans have some kind of battered wives complex. It's everyone else's fault except, the people that's responsible for their current situation.

Xbox wasted an entire generation and then had to resort to spending $80B to even be considered relevant and they STILL can't put out consistent quality content??

Fuck "want", they deserve that shit.

Professional victims perpetually.

Microsoft is very "diversified" in this market: games, services, consoles, cloud, PCs, partnerships with manufacturers, etc.

I don't want Microsoft to give up on the entire market, but I don't think it's worth going in all directions; it needs to find a niche. And if it's going to give up something, the Xbox console is the most disconnected and dispensable part.

About Sony becoming worse by not having competition, what else could they do exactly? Sony already released a console for 700 dollars, releases about two games a year, the service is horrible and the price just keeps getting higher... can it get any worse? lmao

Also, Xbox gave us Xbox Live, GamePass and Halo. Without those, who knows where we would be.

Who knows? Maybe not paying to play console games online? 🤷‍♂️

You make it sound like we have had a hand in this. The only impact I have had on Xbox is through purchasing their products.

Meanwhile, this is the kind of stuff that is constantly coming out of the Xbox camp.

They claim victim but are constantly slinging :poop::poop::poop:. The Xbox influencers have done more to sour me toward Xbox and pushed me toward Sony than anything else. I game on everything but over the years I found myself defending Sony because their influencers could never just STFU and the little green soldiers would run out and spread the FUD.

Do I want them to fail? No! I wanted them to get their shit together. I can't help it that they....

I agree, it's this kind of tribalism that has ultimately led to the downfall of the brand:

nah that's just the Xbox equivalent of retards like SMD64 and the other blind fanboynNintendo youtubers.

it was however a mistake for Microsoft to engage with these idiots for sure. Nintendo mostly ignores their retard fanboys

Are we helping Xbox survive through sheer manifestation now?

If they do good stuff, they will survive and thrive.
If they do bad stuff, they will fail.

And if they fail after doing bad stuff, why would I not want them to fail?

Xbox has done a lot more harm to this industry than good. They're still doing bad stuff (raised game prices to $80 and console prices to $600) just as they are exiting the door. Not to mention all the bad stuff we saw during the ABK court case leaked.

I feel this way any time anyone on GAF roots against a platform. It's been insufferable with the Switch 2 launch.

I personally want all of the platforms to succeed, and therefore compete against each other. It makes for a healthier economy where we all win.
healthier economy?

Sorry but Microsoft intentionally tried to devalue retail games with the thought that Sony wouldn't survive in a world where they had to put all the money up front to get games on their platform & make it back slowly through subscriptions .

It's documented that they wanted to spend PlayStation out of business. PlayStation & Nintendo platforms selling 10 , 20 & even 30 million units of digital & physical games was not in Microsoft's long term goals.

Yep. That ploy failed, and now I hope they bounce back with a better, more sustainable strategy. I'd love for Microsoft to put more pressure on Sony and Nintendo.

That happens A LOT here to be fair.

But I dont think hed entirely off base either. Competition IS good and should remain.
And that will happen when Xbox exits so the likes of Amazon can come in to fill the blanks. I remember a time when Xbox didn't exist, and I can see a time when Xbox will no longer exist. The competition will remain regardless. Especially if the newcomer actually had to make a profit to survive.

why should a company that's bad at their job deserve to exist just for the mantra of competition. They pretty much bought out like every game studio with any talent they could, and gutted them of any personality and shut them down after a few years. nice competition they bought to the table there.

Xbox stopped competing as a gaming company sometimes toward the second part of Xbox 360 lifespan when they closed studios, and went all in on Kinect.

And then Xbox One came with its always online pitch, and TV, Sports and TV route. At that point it wasn't Xbox anymore but rather gigantic cutthroat corpo. This shit continued with Phil taking reigns, GamePass, "career moment" of wanting to spend Sony out of business and buy Nintendo.

So here we are with Xbox a failure and it's really MS, the $3 trillion corpo holding the reigns. Anyone who feels sorry for MS is frankly crazy.

This is the company with some of highest profits in the world and yet keeps firing tens of thousands of employees, shifting QA and support to contractors, in general using contractors and firing them after 18 months, while providing shit OS and Windows Store experience.

They are hard to deal with on corporate side as well, especially with their escalating licensing costs and mediocre support.

Mind, you, Sony and Nintendo have shitty practices themselves all over the place, but MS takes such a large lead that the other two are far behind by default.

Simple. People have nothing going on in their miserable lifes, that's why they worship and fight over plastics with a brand tagged on it.

For some it's just unthinkable to buy a hardware and enjoy their hobby. Xbox is not completely out of the picture yet, but still you can already see how sony fucked up this gen, after xbox didn't try to unfuck itself.

Next gen xbox is gonna kill it.

Next fanboy wars will be fought on open system vs closed system.

Xbox just doubled the no of games you can play on its system just like that, by merely supporting steam.

Because Microsoft's way of competing is undercutting the market and buying things they have no business in owning. For the last 2 gens at least, they've added precisely nothing to the medium. They're the architects of their own failure.

They offer true creative freedom to studios.

Their games are not homogenised, 3rd person movie games.

Oh yes, Microsoft first party are just bursting with creativity. Doesn't get more creative than that, right?

But then, the games are not good enough even to get played on Gamepass, let alone sold. So you're going to have to explain this oh so great "creativity" not showing results.

Weren't you all over Hellblade 2's shmeat last year?

There is no marketing for games.

Reviews dont over rate them. Mostly are underrated there.

So gamepass does heavy lifting, they do well in that context.

Many enthusiasts often desire the failure a single platform to indulge in a peculiar sense of satisfaction. I was once among them in the past, but that is no longer the case.

The reason why I want them gone is that since og Xbox and Xbox 360, they haven't pushed the industry forwards.

Back when people rooted for them they introduced things no other console did - ethernet port, hard disk, Xbox Live, trigger buttons (from Dreamcast), guide button, console dashboard, gamer card, achievements, Xbox Live Arcade (ie digital game distribution)…

The last two generations they have messed up their branding while very closely aligning their product with PlayStation, so we have a situation where the games of each generation are split between two identical boxes, which you both need to own.

So the rooting for failure is the desire to avoid buying two identical boxes.
