If competition is good for the industry, why does everyone want Xbox to fail?

Who else will compete with PlayStation though?

Sure, PC and Switch exist, but neither are direct competition if you want a traditional box under the TV that plays all the non Nintendo games.

Valve?
They have a great platform in Steam, but it would just be a repeat of Steambox again, they can't compete with Sony on manufacturing, hardware support and rollout. They barely make any games these days either.

Apple?
Huge gaming store/platform, a massive hardware distribution business, but they don't make any games.

I think going forward Switch and PlayStation will have a duopoly when it comes to consoles.

Coca-Cola vs Pepsi
Windows vs Mac
iPhone vs Android
Airbus vs Boeing
Marvel vs DC
Visa vs Mastercard

Many markets end up with way, remember all the old phone operating systems like Symbian, PalmOS, BlackBerryOS and Windows Phone? Now we have just 2, and no one's going to disrupt that, it's just too late.

Xbox pity party thread.
I wish we could have background music per thread so the sound of sad violin music would play here.
Thinking people want Xbox to fail is a sign of persecution complex.
People simply want Xbox to own the shit they have done and do better.

I was planning to buy a XSS for Fable since if it was announced, but... Where dafuq is Fable? And now, when it releases, I have zero reason to get a Xbox for it, I'll play it on Playstation.

There is a giant difference that the OP is missing between wanting something to fail and wanting bad practices to be punished. The hate is because of the latter.

Microsoft has barely released any good AAA games from its studios in over a decade. Instead, they use their immense wealth from their software side to purchase good studios and slap their label on their games. Even the few successes they've had like Hi Fi Rush or Hellblade were made by an outside studio that Microsoft acquired. They don't give a crap about making good video games consoles or games and put zero effort into it. I want their ventures in these areas to fail so they realize their stupidity and go back to their old model of putting real effort into their first party Microsoft Studios games like they did back in the day when they were rolling with Halo, Gears of War and such.

Sony and Nintendo are actually trying and innovating. They have released many great first party games made by their own studios over the past decade.

"Competition is good" is a fallacy when it referes to competitors who want to either destroy the industry altogether or compete in conditions that are unsustainable to the other sides.

XBOX is a liability so I'm glad they failed miserably at their attempt of making this entertainment Netflix. It has nothing to do with fanboysm. If Sony follows the same crappy policies, they will come next in the chopping block and someone else will take its place. That's how it works.

Here we go again....

Competition is still here and stronger than ever for Playstation in form of STEAM and NINTENDO.

Xbox disappearing doesn't equate Competition disappearing, it means Xbox couldn't compete and survive .. deal with it.

Similar scenario
Sony is not fighting with Xbox ever since 2013. The real competition is for your fleeting free time, that Sony quite blatantly states during their earnings and calls. The game has shifted and Xbox was left in the dust almost everywhere, from cloud to PC launchers.

I'm not opposed to the way things have gone, having access to Microsoft games on Playstation. Sure, Sony will bump their prices a bit because they can, but at least I don't have to buy two identical 500€ boxes to play all the big games.
I'm not sure that they would even do that because MS are the one who have bumped prices while PS has discounts. MS don't seem to provide price competition whatsoever.

I think they are all stagnant
Sony is basically re-releasing the same emotional walking simulator over and over with a different skin, Xbox makes GP shovelware and Nintendo just re-releases the same 30 year old games each gen with a tiny new powerup or feature.

Mario platformers has been going as long as I have, yet Nintendo always surprise me.

Mario Odyssey and Mario Wonder are great examples, full of great new ideas.

Here's to another 40 years of the moustachioed plumber 💪

You may be right, but I think the concern would be that Switch vs PlayStation might be more like baby formula vs Cola: perhaps vaguely in the same business, but not competing directly enough to really push each other.

If Microsoft did leave the market, I would hope that someone else will enter to genuinely compete with Sony, but how realistic that is idk.

nah that's just the Xbox equivalent of retards like SMD64 and the other blind fanboynNintendo youtubers.

it was however a mistake for Microsoft to engage with these idiots for sure. Nintendo mostly ignores their retard fanboys

Engage?

They created the whole situation and then have continuously encouraged enabled and enabled this kind of behaviour. And it's not just a handful of people either, it's arenas full of thousands of grown adults.

A Company that cannot develop their own games and it's good only in acquiring other companies because their studios cannot develop good games it's not something the industry needs
This gen Sony has more 2nd and 3rd party exclusives than 1st party games so I guess the industry doesn't need them either right? How many acquisitions have they made also?

Talking about competition with M$ and Xbox has to be a joke. They don't want to compete; they want to wipe the competition off the map. The emails are there for anyone who wants to read them. Their intention was to buy Nintendo and take out Playstation by spending billions on studios. Luckily, everything has gone wrong for them.

"we need to buy Xbox products" the hell we do. Absolute joke of a thread. They deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell.

No one else is going to enter the console market, Sony won mind share very early on (PS1 even) the world over. Just be wasting billions of $

Xbox had a chance to gain a bigger slice after 360 but fucked it all up with TV TV TV.

And, as always, if Microsoft can't dominate they quit.

Not true at all.

PS5 has at least 19 first party (or third party but FUNDED, like Death Stranding) exclusives (some temporal), while third party are probably 10 (and some are temporal too).
But is it also true that some are remake or master lol

I only need one hardware platform to run 3rd party games, I don't care which one it is.
Maybe it's time for Yamaha to enter the gaming business, they already do literally everything else, from industrial water pumps to motorcycles to pianos, etc.

Fanboyism

These responses along with the "tribalism" ones really do make me laugh - what you're failing to realise is that fanboyism and tribalism are largely whats kept them alive for the last 5 years or so.

Everyone else has long since given up on them, and for good reason. I'm not going continue to support a platform that continuously fails to deliver in key areas while their remaining fanbase attack you for stating that what they are doing is not good enough. Why should I?

They fucking sponsored that cultish behavior. What's really funny, is Phil later complaining about fanboys, and that we all should play together. A total disaster as the leader of Xbox.

Everyone will just move on from playstation if they continue to fuck up their first party how they have this gen.

But Jim is gone and I've found out Herman has been demoted. Thw new boss can hopefully fix it all and we get back to having awesome first party games at a regular clip.

At this point, MS has done more harm than good to gaming.

Paid online
Forced microtransactions during the 360 era
Online DRM
Pushing for the death of physical games
Closure of great studios
Constant lies
Etc....

Ofc, many people seem to forget those just because of gamepass.

Hate to break it to you but Sony and Nintendo are guilty of most of the above as well.

Because "corpo warriors" are usually largely made up of teenagers and very young adults who have yet to develop a sense of who they are. And so they are easy prey for brand marketing, causing them to subsitute the sense of self and/or a sense of belonging with brand worship. Usually by the mid 20s (at the latest) people grow out of that.
Corpos are not your friend and never will be, even (or especially) if you work for them.

Sure, but if their only 'competitor' is Nintendo, the threat posed by 'a future Nintendo console might be able to run this game five years from now and less well' is probably not going to keep pushing Sony in the same way as a more comparable direct rival would.

If Sony only has to worry about their console being better than Nintendo's, that's a bad day for Sony fans imo.

Meh... Devs adapt to the specs they have to work with.
I don't care for RT or thousands of particles or 4k. All I need is good gameplay and a mediocre or better story.

It is. The complaints about PlayStation first party didn't come from no where. PlayStation has been at their best when they are pushed. Nintendo isn't pushing PlayStation like Xbox once did and they won't, for the most part, as long as they are focused on handhelds which put a comparatively low ceiling on the games they are capable of running. So the two are largely running their gaming business in separate lanes. So much so that I would not be surprised if the rumors of PS ports to Switch 2 are true. That's not the competitive spirit I think most want from Sony.

Some people are literally blind to their stupid decisions and bad business practices.
Its not that people wanted them to fail. If they where the same Xbox from Xbox and Xbox360 era people wouldn't complain. I know I wouldn't, it was their best era. But they add nothing to industry, they just use money to keep buying companies only to ruined them. Thats literally a horrible practice that should be shunned. The only reason they are alive is because of daddy Windows money, thats it. They don't want to be first, they want to disrupt and destroy the gaming industry and they got all the money to do that, regardless of their failings that was 100% on them.

Lord Playstation wants it to die, die, DIE!!!!!!

Did XSX and Gamecube have a baby?

You might be equating people laughing at their mistakes and mocking their stupid decisions as wanting them to fail. Consumers want to support a corporation's product because it's good, not because they feel obligated to.
Negative people always say Xbox needs to shut down and become a game making company for Sony period…No laughing just Microsoft needs to quit

It's wild to see so many of those kinds of posts over the last 48 hours and Sony / Nintendo are holding your saves hostage behind an online sub / PS5 pro with no disk drive.

Secret, all these companies want physical to die.

Anyway, Xbox has done and made some stupid ass decisions but they are not exclusively doing that kind of stuff. They are all guilty of it.
