What a shame. Indy is actually pretty good. Not yet sure if the first person view won me over, but the game itself is damn good.

By all accounts this looks like a solid game but the Indy IP is just so boring to me I’m not really interested in trying it (when it comes to PS5) unless it’s overwhelmingly well thought of.

Complex puzzles are this thing for me too. Sometimes I enjoy them but spending too much time trying to fit together obtuse details isn’t something I really want to be doing.

Fwiw, multiple reviewers have stated that the puzzles are quite easy. The companions also seem to help you out with hints, whether you want/need them or not.

But if the Indy IP is "so boring to me," then I wouldn't bother. In my case, I like the Indy IP - the original one, from decades ago, not what Disney turned it into - but it's the stealth focus that is making me hesitate. The story sounds good.

It's only $10 but the $70 price tag (in general) has turned out to be quite a mental hurdle for me. I just don't want to pay that unless I have zero qualms about the game. There's just too much stuff for cheaper.

Same here. I haven't purchased a game at $70 this entire generation. It just seems like too much - unless it's for a massive WRPG I know is going to be great, and I'm foaming at the mouth to play it, but that hasn't happened in years.

I've played this on four different "platforms" - Xbox, PC, Geforce Now and Xcloud, none of which are Steam.
It's not 2016 any more.
Because Steam is the only platform out of the 4 you mentioned where people had to have bought the game.

And that determines the potential commercial success or failure of the game (which then translates into potential sequels or not, studio closures, blah blah).
 
It sucks that it appears Indy is not selling well. Having said that, I would much rather Machine Games work on another IP than a sequel Indy game. I think a sequel would be would wholly unnecessary

I didnt know this game existed until a couple of days ago, and i didn't know it was an imsim until this morning - and I visit this site regularly. Also, I believe it is raytracing required on PC?

Something went really wrong during the amp up to launch phase.

It is an odd need for people to feel good about what they are playing because so many others are as well. I guess we all just want to be part of the "majority". The need to fit in, even when it comes to something like this, is strong and this is all a bit funny to me.

What you are describing happens with any new game regardless of platform. The only difference, is that the people you are speaking of and the people they are in conversation with, is that they all are playing opposite roles from the roles they'd be playing if the platform in question is not one they have aligned themselves with. This is nothing new. It's been a thing ever since "competing" platforms has been a thing. Some games can reach above that, even if exclusive, but many don't and the only reason, I believe, the Xbox folks are more sensitive to this type of thing is because of MS' new strategy. Otherwise, this is just the norm and people doing what they do, for their platform of choice. Rinse/repeat.

Amen. Not just in gaming, but in music, and other forms of entertainment as well - people gravitate towards the thing that is popular. And because we live in polarizing times, if something isn't doing gangbusters it's assumed to be a failure and the people who only want to be associated with what's popular ignore it.

It's a shitty way to consume media. Partly why these CCU threads are stupid and pointless.
 
I don’t understand the thinking of paying for an IP and then design your game in a way that ensures the main draw doesn’t appear on the player’s screen at all.
I mean other IPs like say Star Wars at least has iconic villains like Darth Vader that can show up.
Indiana Jones is the only iconic person of the property, his villains are generic Nazis. If he’s not on the screen, your game is just generic treasure hunter game.

Looking forward to playing the game. But I’m not spending $70. I like the IP, but don’t really care for immersive sims, so I’m not that excited to play it which is why it is relegated to some future date when I sub to gamepass for a few months.

  • $70 do not sell on PC full stop. They never will so stop trying.
  • Terrible release timing
  • IP that is not popular
  • Game genre that is not popular
  • Gamepass sucking away sales more than other genres because this is SP one and done.

Anecdotally in my friend group, this is also an issue. Forza for example many of us have bought on Steam due to replay and online features. Of that group that tends to buy Steam, not a single one has bought this game on Steam, but multiple are playing on PC GamePass.

I don't get why this game is console war fodder, on one side or the other. It's basically a multiplatform release with a brief window of exclusivity. But I guess old habits die hard, and some people will continue to fight the good fight, even if there isn't anything to fight about...

Dualsense is probably the reason I'm debating between going for it now and waiting until the Pro version is out.

I think there is at least one positive side to it:
  • If I really love a game, I'd feel very happy if others are also playing and experiencing the same thing.
There is also one practical/business side to it:
  • If someone really loves a game, they'd be hoping they get more sequels or at least new games from that studio. And commercial success of a game is important to ensure that happens.
For example, most of us didn't like Concord, but obviously someone in this world must have. And they'd have like continuous support or maybe even a sequel and, therefore, would have wished that more people played Concord to keep the devs going.

Lol, this list is dishonest. PUBG is F2P now, but it hit its peak when it was paid. Halo also is on PC GamePass, where Helldivers is not, so Steam doesn't account for all players (Personally at launch myself and friends all played on GamePass)

There's no argument. Redfall peak numbers are nearly 10x that of Concord. The numbers speak for themselves, just pointing it out.

No, I don't think it's possible to quantify and properly attribute a game's success with Game Pass in the picture.

Otherwise, they would not have shut down Tango Games (and sold the IP) after celebrating Hi-Fi Rush's number of players and calling it a breakout hit. Even they couldn't figure out whether it was a success or not.

You cut that part, and people, only reading that, would think that "I would have wished that more people played Concord to keep the devs going." :D

I was talking about a hypothetical group of players (there must be at least a few as with any other game who played and loved Concord) to use as an example. Just making the point that sales really matter, and there are multiple reasons why folks would be interested in a game's commercial success.
