But that logic, they would have expected it to sell, what, 20-25 million copies? 10 million on PlayStation, ~7-10 million on PC, ~3-5 million on Xbox.

I'm assuming these forecasts are lifetime, but still.. That's a massively overrated forecast and kinda tells you the budget this game had (which it likely won't make back by the end of 2025).

The other thing is, this game in particular is a really bad choice to play console war troll over because it's probably one of the most court-documented ones ever. So there's receipts out there that might counter anything you claim.

We know from FTC court documents that Phil and his leadership team made a deal with Disney to take it exclusive after the fact, a decision that honestly looks disastrous now (they likely paid Disney money and THEN decided to still release it on PS5 with a very short delay).

The big issue with buying beleaguered publishers like Zenimax is you essentially get locked to whatever product pipeline and agreements they have in place, even the ones that weren't well-thought out in terms of project cost (like this or even HiFi-Rush) or in creative terms (like Redfall and to a lesser extend, Starfield).

Oh for sure. Those were lifetime sales projections.

But considering that most game sales, especially for story-driven games, are front-loaded nowadays, they'd have expected the game to blow up like Spider-Man PS4 right out of the gate.

The game appears to feature puzzles quite prominently which isn't very popular with the Fortnite audience.
The movie and the lack of marketing didn't help either

Well these expectations could have been somewhat reasonable for Starfield. IJ on the other hand lol, complete delusion.

Steam metrics have always been used in forums to measure the success or failure of games (like PS ports or a few weeks ago with Stalker 2) but now that Indiana Jones is a disaster the metrics are no longer valid...xDD.

Their only metric for success now is engagement since they can spin it however they want :p

Yeah its hilarious now that Steam CCU doesn't matter when we had plethora of threads for other games and no one was complaining about that until now.

Sometimes Ill buy a new game and play it months later lol, especially when Im abroad.

Game has scored well, thats the best they could ask for. Gamepass effects sales and even then the game should be selling enough, its just harder and needs multplatform love. Its a dumb business model and wouldnt work without MS billions

As for is this game for PC market? Yeah why not, its a first person action adventure. Some of you act like PC games dont have narrative heavy cutscenes, long conversations and cinematic. Felt like the 90’s and early 2000’s was full of this

While peak CCU numbers may change in the future (I think they will go up from here because of good reviews and word of mouth), at the moment, its CCU is even lower than Suicide Squad - which is getting shut down now.

And Suicide Squad would have also got more sales on Xbox because it didn't launch on Game Pass.

As of now, until its fortunes change significantly, Indiana Jones is a critical hit but commercial failure.

Which "other" platforms? 90% of players on Xbox will be on gamepass, so no money from there whatsoever.

This game was always a head-scratcher for me. I wish I could understand who thought this team making a game in this IP was an idea worth greenlighting. I assumed Machine Games would do better than most expected with it because they've got a solid track record of making good stuff. But the Indy IP only has value with Gen X and older Millennials at this point. I don't think the kids are into it.

Hearing it's more of a stealth-adventure game than a shooter makes sense thematically, but also sounds like something I wouldn't be interested in.

I hope it doesn't sell bad enough to tank Machine Games. Hopefully they get another opportunity to make something that's in-line with their creative talents.
 
It was greenlit before Dial of Destiny bombed so the last real point of reference was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was decently successful despite it not being a fan favourite. That was at least ten years earlier though, and in hindsight Crystal Skull also seemed to kill most interest people had in the franchise continuing. FWIW, I had no interest in Dial of Destiny despite growing up with and loving Raiders and Last Crusade (never liked Temple of Doom much).

Also, why the heck am I going to spend ÂŁ60 to buy it on Steam when I can play it on Gamepass?
This is kind of my point though. A lot of younger people didn't grow up with nor care about Indiana Jones. Its just an odd choice. Pretty sure this was greenlit before MS bought Bethesda, so can't blame them too much here, but a similar situation with the new perfect dark game. The latest entry in that IP was over a decade ago, and it was met to a meh reception. The last entry that was liked was nearly 20 years ago. Why are these games getting greenlit?

I'd rather these devs just create brand new IPs in that case.

By all accounts this looks like a solid game but the Indy IP is just so boring to me I’m not really interested in trying it (when it comes to PS5) unless it’s overwhelmingly well thought of.

Complex puzzles are this thing for me too. Sometimes I enjoy them but spending too much time trying to fit together obtuse details isn’t something I really want to be doing.

They arent complex puzzles.

And yes, its overwhelmingly well made.
 
I think the last movie and the trailer with the karen companion hurt the game. But if it's respectful with Indy, which it appears to be, it will have more and more users as time goes by.

I dont think there is a big audience for single player action adventure type of games on PC.

God of War did okay but even then not that much for a God of War game, and even then i think it was more of a novelty thing of the big Play Station games coming to PC. Ragnarok didnt even do half of the previous game.

The biggest one seems to have been Tomb Raider, but again i would attribute that to those games slowly coming to PC at the time and it was a big comeback, the next ones did significantelly worse.

Maybe a God of War day one release could break the 100k but i dont think it would do a lot better than that. Which isn't bad, but it's nothing compared to consoles, most genres on PC can do better than that, even if we ignored like the 3 biggest games of the genre.

It's only $10 but the $70 price tag (in general) has turned out to be quite a mental hurdle for me. I just don't want to pay that unless I have zero qualms about the game. There's just too much stuff for cheaper.

Where is the karen companion? Do you mean the female sidekick? I'm not picking up any sense of her being a "Karen". Where does this come from? Or is it just arbitrary chauvinism? Probably.

Legendary character Marion wouldn't have stood a chance with internet saddos, had the internet been around back then.

For the sake of comparison, the Wii U used marketing more of quantity. Showing a lot the console, games and whatever. A LOT of those stuff sucked. Just sucked. Didn't matter how much they did, changes or whatever. Most of them sucked. But good thing that they learn and with the Switch they nailed the hell of it. First trailer has energy, shows how the hardware works, games, even championships that are not really a thing with Nintendo... It was a redemption from day one

But Xbox is in a deep shit since the final days of the 360, and the Don Matrick saying about DRM still haunts everyone to this day. The new slogan of "this is a Xbox" is not bad, but not great. Having a Indiana Jones game not long after a bad movie doesn't help either. The game having a weird launch window also doesn't help - I could only play at 21h on a sunday?! Dude...

Nowadays game stores are dying. But outdoor ads are a thing. Even fucking Netflix does this with some shows. TV, bus ads, whatever, could also work. Sony does that shit with some game here and there, and guess what, it sells. A very well established franchise like that needs more than it has now

I didn't say anything about Indy's performance. That comment is solely on you.

I was talking things where Concord did a solid job. That's being objective.

Isnt the game on PC and coming to PS5 next 6 months? Thats where they’ll get the majority of sales, they will have to anyway

They kind of killed the potential sales momentum of the game on the ps5 since the hype for this game might decline as time goes by. It should have been launched day one on PS5 for maximum sales potential. I guess they prioritised Gamepass subscription over unit sales.

If I said the exact same things about Veilguard, nobody would give a shit.
But because Xbox is the publisher, somehow I'm 'console warring'.

Thing is though, Indy will be just another game on PS5 like Veilguard is, or Marvel Rivals.
There literally is no difference and I won't treat any game different than the other in that regard.
