iPad Air

How do you guys clean the iPad screen?

I don't use a screen protector (do people use that) and there's obviously a lot of finger prints etc., How do I clean it?

thanks

Do I spray it with anything or just wipe it?

I wear glasses, Can I use the that cloth or no?

I am in love with this thing and don't want to ruin it.

just use the cloth. no need for a spray. for the most part, you’re just removing dust and fingerprints.

If you happen to get some gunk on the screen, then a cloth dampened by water will clear it off then dry it off afterward. really straightforward.

So between Christmas and New Year's, I'm probably going to be replacing my iPad 3 with either an Air or Mini Retina. I watch some movies/tv shows, play games, and do some light comic reading. I know there is a $100 difference, other than that is there any reason to consider a Mini over an Air? I've played with both and can't really decide.

I haven't used the air and I sold my mini before the new models were announced (currently a Nexus 7 is my only tablet), but for me, the mini is the absolute perfect size for a tablet. I realize the Air slimmed the full-size iPad down a bit, but I still think I'd choose the mini.

But, yeah...size and price are the only difference. Decide which one feels better and go with that.

When the hell is apple releasing iOS 7.1, 7.0 is so buggy and the constant safari crashes and lag throughout the UI needs to stop on a device this capable

Just got my new Mini Retina to replace iPad 3 and I can't beleive how much faster it is. I read online that there wasn't much difference but I have them side by side and I can see that my comic apps are faster as are a few games.

is it really that much faster?!

Im debating replacing my iPad3 for an iPad air ... decisions ...

Wondering this too. I've had about 25 LowMemory-crashes tonight trying to buy a game from GreenManGaming.

Wish Apple would throw some more RAM in the iPad. It almost seems like they removed the RAM to make it lighter :p

Every time I go from my iPad Air back to my work iPad 2 (I sold my personal one for $250 on Amazon!) it's like going from driving a Subaru WRX to a dump truck. I can't believe how incredibly heavy the old one feels now, and all text looks blurry on it.

With your Mini that you sold, did you read and watch movies on it at all? That is my only concern is whether the screen would be a little too small for movies or comic reading, and that is a little hard to discern at a store demoing both for a few minutes.

I watch movies on my OG Mini and I think it's great. I actually prefer to watch movies and shows on my Mini rather than my TV most of the time because I can watch something while walking around or laying down with my earbuds on.

I do this with my iPad 3 and just wonder if I'd find the Mini screen a little small for my tastes. Then again when you are watching something 3 feet away from your eyes how big of a screen do you really need?

So is the consensus on the yellow tint/book binding effect to return and swap until you get a better screen? I picked up a 32gb air on Saturday at Target and about the left 3rd of the screen is yellow tinted. Super disappointing seeing this almost two months after the launch of the new model. My work ipad is an ipad3 and its screen is fine.

This sucks as I really love how much faster this thing is and the weight, thickness, and width is perfect. I'm wondering if I just need to return it and get my money back and wait or keep trying. Is the Apple Store the best place to play return roulette? Thanks for any advice fellow Gaffers.

Btw, Merry Christmas everyone!

So I got my first iPad today for Xmas, loving it so far....but anyone else have the occasional problem with typing in fields? I'd press on the field to type something in, but then it just disappears or exits. How odd....

What size do most of you guys have?

32GB is enough for my phone, but I've never owned a tablet before so I don't want to limit myself, although $700 is quite a price tag...

I've never really used an iPad extensively before (and certainly never to post on GAF), so I have a question as a first time user. I've been posting on GAF a few times, and I've noticed sometimes that if I am typing in one tab, go into a second tab to copy a link or something, and then go back to the original tab, I'll find that everything I had written was erased. Is there some way to prevent this from happening? It's absolutely infuriating and makes it almost useless for most post I do on GAF.

Chrome reloads tabs less frequently than Safari. Other than that there isn't much you can do unfortunately.

That sounds a lot like multi tasking you are attempting... What do you think it is, an Android tablet?

When I am in that situation I do a half post and then edit it quickly so that the tab doesn't reload and I don't lose my typing.

Safari is prone to reload if you have a lot of tabs going, you could try another browser or just post it and then edit for safety. You could also write the post in notes or something then just copy it over.

Typing this from my brand new iPad Air! This is the first iPad I've owned, and so far I love it! After seeing some of the reports here of coloration problems on the screens I was a bit worried, but everything is fine on this one.

Mine is arriving Monday and I'm worried too. What's the best way to check for the problem once I get it?

You can't miss it. It'll be apparent on any white page on the left hand side. If you don't see it, don't go looking for issues. Its the pathway to a long, dark road. :)

Either lack of RAM and/or poor optimization.

If 7.1 doesn't fix these issue, then it's a lack of RAM and you're hosed until the next version.

I'd suggest loading up Maps and zooming in really far so you have mostly a solid color (rural areas work good for this).

It's how I noticed a backlight bleeding issue that didn't show up under the normal white backgrounds.

Apple and their 1GB of RAM.

Any deals going on the Air currently?

Going to get a new one for my Dad. He has the OG iPad with 16 gigs.

Also he pretty much just uses the iPad for the internet, email and checking his stocks. Should I stick with 16 gigs or upgrade him to 32? He doesn't really use many apps or watching any movies on it.

it’s more than just that, though. I get more page refreshes on safari on the ipad air than I did on the old ipad 3 (also with 1 GB)

I think part of it is the extra 64 bit overhead of the code running on the A7 and part of it is Apple being very aggressive clearing out cache in iOS 7 Safari, for whatever reason. I remember with the 256 MB ipad 1, browsers like iCab could hold 6 or 7 pages in memory while safari would dump out pages much more quickly. Safari improved over time but seems to have regressed with iOS 7 and the Air.

I have no idea if Apple intends to change the behaviour of Safari in future releases but I think people who need pages to stay in memory longer need to look at alternative browsers until Apple gets their act together. The good news is that the 1 GB doesn’t mean every browser will act like Safari does now. The bad news is that people need to look around for a browser when it should work properly (keep more pages in memory) out of the box

Has anyone got the yellowing of the screen in the iPad Air they bought recently or was it just launch stock?

I'm getting mine from a reseller (JB hifi in Melbourne) cause I have some gift vouchers so i don't know if they exchange on the spot or i have to go to the apple store to exchange? Does anyone know?

My iPad I bought Saturday had the left 3rd of the screen covered with yellow tint. Target exchanged it without issue and the replacement is much better. There might be some yellowing but it's very hard to tell. But even recent ones have the issue.

As far as exchanging in Australia, I have no idea.

cool thanks a lot - normally i get from the apple shop and its really easy to exchange... though I've never returned any of my products so I've been really lucky.

My siblings and I just got our mom an iPad Air for Christmas.

She really likes games like Solitaire, Free Cell, Mahjong, Casino and Poker type games.

Needless to say, there are seemingly an endless amount of these apps on the App Store.

Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Free or paid, most important thing is no running out of energy or buying packs of coins or any shit like that.

well not really...yet
Just got a 32GB Air. First iPad.

I think I've finally been converted to digital comics. Wow.

2nd step into apple ecosystem after getting iPhone 5s. Very happy so far

After debating between a Retina Mini and Air for a week, and then another hour messing around with them in the store trying to decide, I went with the Air to replace my 3rd gen iPad. I have no regrets with my purchase as I see the Air as a great combination of screen size and light weight. Had to go with a 64 gig as my 32 was almost full.

Grrargh! There's been a dead pixel in the bottom left of my Air since day one but now I've noticed another top right. Anyone else got any? Should I be returning it?
