Stardust Crusaders was serialized in 1989...

The cops can't see the Stands because they're plebians. Only special people like the Joestars and Avdol can see them, but people around them can feel the effects.

I just remembered, what happened to this prisoners inside the cell Jotaro was in? :x Did they get barbecued?
They were on the opposite cell I think... they just disappeard kinda.

Crunchyroll experience for this was rather shocking, the intro water scene was pretty bad though seemed to set the stage for how the rest of the episode would be. Really uninteresting and slow start combined with difficult to believe and accept ability systems. It seemed to jump on the spirit animals craze and used it in weird ways, well like the gifs above with the fire but then the cops cant see it? What is the point of the fire then?

Jotaru comes across as unlikeable and rude and really needs much work to be more likeable and interesting. I hope he gets a friend or something to help pull out his best points. The belts is a good part of his design, but the personality needs works. Unlike Joseph who could really carry things and was even more enhanced perfectly matched with Caasar, Jotaru really just has nothing going on for him.
I am shocked at no mention of Dio nor a pic or gif of him in a DTL post

Great start so far while I never liked Jotaro or any of the other Joestars for that matter as much as Joseph there's one part specifically in this arc that made me gain eternal respect for him.

the episode i saw was about jo, his grandpa, and his mom in the police station. if this isn't part 1, should i stop watching it now and start from the beginning?

Yes you should, although your somewhat spoiled on some parts of part 1 and 2(1 and 2 are together in one 2 cour season)

What foxuzamaki posted. If you use Crunchyroll you can watch and catch up on the Part 1 anime, it's worth watching for Speedwagon at least ;)

Also it's JoJo. You gotta write it twice~

It'd be really fun if he correctly guessed what someone else was going to say before they said it, at least once.
I never understood that... Like he could do it just because?

Episode one was good. Stands open up more possibilities for fights but I'm missing the other JoJos. I'm sure this one will be fine.

I think one of my favorite Araki-isms is how he always feels the need to quantify random minutiae, like bringing up the price of the camera and everything. It's even more awkward when you hear someone saying it.

It's not just a camera.

It's a 30,000 yen camera.

I guess that had to be highlighted because unless Joseph is swimming in money, he can't take a pic that often. I assume. Not that he really needs to.

Edit: But the camera has to be 30,000 yen? What a useless Stand lol.

Pretty sure Joseph is rich.

He's a Joestar and pretty sure that the Speedwagon Foundation do anything the Joestars want. Pretty sure he can destroy a 30,000 yen camera whenever.

Hope the budget stays pretty consistent so most of the fights can be awesome. Despite the low amount of movement in this first episode it was pretty pretty.

The entire manga run of Stardust Crusaders for ¥ 6,167. Doesn't seem to be a bad price and international shipping has become cheaper compared to a year or two ago or so it seems. Anyone know if this release has furigana? I do know that bunkobons often omit furigana because of the small size.

No, I know that's what it says in the series; I was just curious if that's really how much those kind of cameras cost around that time in real life.
Find an old catalog from a store like Sears. And in 1989 30000 yen was fluctuating between the 210-240 usd.

It's not as much as a slideshow as the first season so far but it's first episode budget as hell. It was extremely average. Another new voice for Old Joseph but I'm still not really sold yet, better paced than the first episode of Phantom Blood as well but that's a given.

Having heard a great deal about the manga from friends I decided to check it out.I have no idea about the series other than it is supposed to have some great fight.I really liked the first episode and was wondering about the previous anime series. Is it good?

If you mean the first season of the current anime then yes you should defiantly watch them first before jumping into Stardust Crusaders.

The old OVAs are a mixed bag. Maybe worth watching as a curiosity.

Episode 1
Unsho Ishizuka does a great job in replacing Sugita for Old Joseph Joestar, I'm glad to see the old protagainst from Battle Tendency still being over the top despite of old age.

Part 1 and 2 is needed to be watched if you want to know more about Dio, Jonathan and Joseph Joestar.

Plus Part 1 gave us Sunlight Yellow Overdrive.

Well, the stories for each "part" of Jojo are sort of stand alone, but they're also an ongoing continuity. It's entirely possible to watch Phantom Blood (Ep1-9 of the first season), Battle Tendency (Ep10-26 of the first season), or Stardust Crusaders (this season) on their own without knowing anything about the other parts, but if you watch them all it works too.

I agree about Battle Tendency. Other than introducing Joseph its pretty much a separate story. The start of Stardust Crusaders would be kinda confusing if you didn't know about Dio or Johnathan or the conclusion of Phantom Blood.
But once you get past the setup and Stands take over its pretty much its own thing I suppose.

I know remember why I miss Jojo anime threads.

DTL posts.

Anyway can't wait for OP and ED next ep.

I don't think that's really true, considering a huge portion of the fanbase were in fact introduced to the franchise through Stardust Crusaders before anything else. Even without knowing the full story in Phantom Blood, there's more than enough exposition in the story explaining the only plot points which really matter in the story itself. It's one of those things which I think people already familiar with the material will feel people who don't know it are "missing out" but it isn't really that relevant overall.

True enough.

The only relevant thing I don't think they mention in this episode is that Dio is a vampire.
But I suppose even that isn't particularly crucial.

I'd say Parts 4, 6, and 7 rely most on knowledge of earlier parts, although 2 would also be a little difficult without coming off of 1. The beginning of 5 has some connections as well, but then it spirals off into its own silly thing for the rest of the series.

If you're watching the series on Crunchyroll, then the first season of the anime, which covers parts 1 and 2, is right there* for viewing, so you have something to do while you wait for new episodes of Stardust Crusaders.

*Only the Part 1 episodes are up for now, but Battle Tendency should be uploaded soon.

Crunchyroll did well by people by putting the first season up at the same time.

And the uncensored versions as well. Bravo.

Just re-read this thread and I remembered the best(?) part of the last JoJo threads...
Is DTL even a real person? Or is he some sort of vengeful spirit trying to stop anime from being saved?

True enough.

When they show him at the end of the episode, there's a dead woman with puncture marks in her neck to clue people in.
