Kobe Bryant likely has a torn achilles tendon

Since you love to tell other people that they ought to improve their reading comprehension would you care to tell me where anybody said the NBA is superior to the NHL because the NHL is dying?

I did.

You're too soft for this world, ph33ph33

like the playoffs of the 2k league

I did.

You're too soft for this world, ph33ph33

All you said was (or at least as far as I looked) "Why are hockey fans so sensitive about their dying league"

but if that's what you meant to extract from that, go right ahead

and don't give me that garbage talk you ps3er

Shhh don't use logic. It would kill their stupid fucking argument that their shitty sport is superior because the NHL is "dying".

two lockouts in 8 years and playoff games on the versus network is the sports equivalent of hospice care; the nhl is a second tier league for a second tier sport

little wonder that starcraft is more popular now

The only one who got emotional is your mate who came in and started poppin off about hockey and then ran off because he couldn't take his own medicine.

:lol

I stopped posting because the discussion was degenerating and not relevant to what we were talking about, and I said that. I've actually been discussing this topic further with people in PMs who were actually being relevant to the topic. But since this thread has now become anything but relevant...

I gave you the chance and all you were doing was sinking lower and lower into a cesspool of butthurt teen attitude. So what are we meant to do, keep this going simply because you're trying to be an internet tough guy? No chance. You're a childish nobody to me, so why would you be worth any extra effort after you proved it. When you get to the point of careposting and acting like a passive aggressive dickhead instead of coming back with actual relevant substance, then just like in reality, I'm gonna shake my head, pity you and walk away. Nothing constructive comes out any resulting effort, so why bother? Nothing I put any value in is on the line here, it's not like your words actually mean anything to me whatsoever, so why bother? Why would I want to see more of them? Or are you upset simply because now you've lost a channel in which you can vent and be a passive aggressive dickhead through? In which case, sort your god damn life out.

I own my words I've said in here, I put forth an amazingly controversial and crass statement and it wasn't designed to personally hurt anyone who would post here, but people will take things like that personally and feel the need to turn their frustration into anger and attacking. The only thing I regret is offending people who have been through Achilles tendon injuries before and sympathise with Kobe because of it. Hanging shit on professional athletes is one thing, but personally offending people on a forum is not my intention.

Some chose to turn it into healthy debate and had fantastic viewpoints which I found enlightening, and others just chose to be children. Shit I don't have time or any actual care for, which is why I stopped and continued with discussions via PM instead.

Chill the fuck out, it's the weekend :lol

Oh Red Blaster, you're just trying too hard. I appreciate the commitment to the art form though.

He'd do what Jordan did and whine to the refs about it. WTF is with this exaggerated idea that the 80s had fucking landmines on the court or something? LeBron is a fucking beast. You really think he wouldn't dominate in that era as much as he does in this era because Bill Lambierr might give him a few hard fouls. Stop romanticizing the 80s.

He couldn't even handle the few shots the bulls gave him without crying like a bitch after the game. I mean he actually complained that a little white guy held him instead of letting Lebron lower his head and Adrian Peterson him into the 3rd row.

No clue why anyone would think its a good idea to pick a fight with the basketball fans here. NBA GAF is fucking ruthless to their own, good luck starting shit as an outsider and managing to make it out with your soul in tact.

To be fair, when players got held/tackled in the 80's and 90's they complained also. Im not sure why we would pretend that they didnt. They bitched when they were fouled hard. The difference between now and then isn't the players complaining about hard fouls, its the frequency of them. I too am not convinced Lebron could not have played during those eras. He may have whined more than most did back then, but I have never seen anything to suggest that he would not have been able to compete.

is being "ruthless" on an internet message board supposed to be threatening?

Jordan bitched to the media and refs when players were rough with him too. Take off the nostalgia goggles.

What does this clip, from 1992, tell you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToN9FpJD4CI

That even back then it was common knowledge that MJ, like all star players, was protected by the refs. That shit didn't start with Kobe and Lebron while Michael had to rough it in the 80s where there was a "no blood/no foul" policy.

No more so than starting shit in the first place.

chill son, I'm on your guys side on this one. Importance of thread or whether it should be a thread is up to a mod, i have no stake there, frankly I hope this isn't it for Kobe. Watching him play live was pretty damn awesome when I had the chance.

It is a pity that people couldn't have taken the initial brilliant post of yours and discussed this matter maturely.

This needs it's own topic in OT?
Erik Karlsson

;(

Kobe isn't a hockey player. He'll be out for a while.
lol, thinking the same thing. Fucking pussies. It's a shame he doesn't have an upset tummy or a sore pinkie. Otherwise everyone would know for sure that he'd be out for exactly 6 weeks.

For those not in the know...

Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson was injured during a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 13 when Penguins forward Matt Cooke‘s skate blade inadvertently cut Karlsson’s Achilles’ tendon.
OH GOD CAREER ENDING INJUR- oh wait...

In fact, Renaud Lavoie of RDS tweeted that Karlsson could be back within 3-4 weeks

And this isn't some scrub either. This is a guy who won the Norris trophy last year for best defenceman.

Oh, wait. Never mind. You're full of shit. You came in here calling players pussies and telling them to walk it off basically, then you run and hide when you start to get worked over?

Now you want to talk about these pretend PM's you're getting? Please. Keep acting like the hockey guy that you are and opt to burn down the place when you see something happening that you don't like.

It would have been fantastic if you had this viewpoint when you clicked on this thread

Believe me, I would've toned the belligerence down intentionally if I knew people were going to be personally upset and angered by a faceless nobody on the internet calling professional athletes 'pussies'.

I really have no dog in this fight here but this is like the longest 'I'm not mad and I don't care about any of this' post I have seen in quite some time.

Believe me, I would've toned the belligerence down intentionally if I knew people were going to be personally upset and angered by a faceless nobody on the internet calling professional athletes 'pussies'.

I'm not sure anyone here is really PERSONALLY upset...but what would you expect if you went into any other thread and tried shooting down whatever the topic was or what you knew the majority of the people participating in the talk had a passion for?

I could see that after a while you realized that you might actually offend people who went through it, but you can't deny that your first few comments weren't anything productive and were mostly chest thumping for the NHL/trolling.

It's actually the opposite. This started because Lakers-Age thought an ACL injury was relevant enough to deserve a thread. NHL GAF disagrees.

Kobe Bryant is a great player but outside of NBA circles nobody cares whether he got injured.

why the fuck do you care about Gaf real estate? If I see a thread that dont mean shit to me, I just move on. I dont gate crash and bitch about why it exists. Because Im not a fucking brat.

Oh please, like I said, I own everything I said. But if nobody is capable of retorting in the same manner (some were, a mixture of crass and fact) and instead just going to be personally hurt and angered then it just degenerates into undirected butthurt. I wasn't out to upset anyone personally, I just straight up assumed we could dish some salt back but be relevant in our exchanges. That's what sports fans usually do. We call the other teams players dipshits, we tell whole other cities they suck, but as soon as some guy tries to drunkenly half-heartedly land a punch then you know it's time to stop.

Nobody should have that much emotional investment in the faceless words of somebody on the internet.

I don't deny it one bit. I own those words. I wouldn't do it with any other topic but something related to sports. I assume that sports fans are capable of taking it in stride and dishing it out. Isn't that kind of the point of trash talk?

Damn I should put down Dark Souls and pick up MW3 by your amazing logic.

I don't think people trash-talk the seriousness of injuries like a full Achilles rupture.

I don't know what kind of sports fan you are, but most sports fans (in my experience) don't make fun of injured players. It's just not cool.

One thing I've come to realise after people posting in here about their own personal experiences with it, and just exactly how specific the repercussions of it are to an NBA player.

Its one thing to complain about fouls, but the thing about LeBron is that shit talking and physical play can actually rattle him. It's happened to him a number of times where he got punked and bounced from the playoffs.

Some of the players and teams from the 80's and 90's would've eaten him alive.

I don't know what kind of sports fan you are, but most sports fans (in my experience) don't make fun of injured players. It's just not cool.

Generally no. But the LA Kings and their fanbase have a history of applauding players of opposing teams who get hurt. A logic I shouldn't have applied to the Lakers fanbase.

so the video game equivalent of the NHL is like...some random Loli jrpg? That's probably a better comparison.

Yeah, I can see that comparison. It's generally how people outside of America look at the NBA. The obscure title with the occasional fanboy.

you just picked the wrong time, player, and place to talk that kind of stuff. nothing against you, but whenever someone goes on here and starts comparing injuries or telling somebody what kind of pain threshold they should feel, it's really annoying. if that isn't puffing your chest out I don't know what is

that isn't what your intention in the end was, but you probably know by now how you came across. trash talk's cool and there should be a wide variety of it but that kind of stuff just wasn't amusing for this topic

every sport has its own culture that's all. I never think too much of it

lulz true that

how do you like my god is the sun?

It's grown on me over the past week. Thought it was decent at first but I find myself listening to it more and more. At the least its reminds me more of Songs For the Deaf rather than a continuation of Era Vulgaris. Frankly I'm just glad to see QOTSA releasing new material, and that list of guests makes me more interested to see the final result.

you would be right to do it

spread the gospel brother.

i started to believe we would never see a new queens so i'll be happy with whatever we get. REALLY curious to hear the songs with nick. can't wait to see them live again!

Second tier? haha. Hockey is less popular because it's expensive to play as a kid and because of bullshit nationalist stuff.

If I wanted to watch people flopping around and getting called for fouls for slight contact in a league where the last two minutes take twenty and the refs obviously side with one team to give them 50 fucking FTs so they make the playoffs instead of another so the same 3-4 teams win every year...

Oh wait. I wouldn't. Ever. My bad.

I'm sorry we can't all share in your wondrous league where the same three teams win every year.

If only the NBA followed the example of a league where outside the jerse... errr nightgown wearing, octopus throwing, tooth missing, obsessed fan; nobody can name one team in the league, let alone who won a championship trophy named after something you drink from.
