Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

I wonder how ESRAM would play into this IF the GDDR5 rumor is true. They just scrap that whole thing since it's not needed anymore? This rumor seems weird.

Either it's genuine, a stretching of the truth, or a glorious Tales From The Ass.

He/She has made their bed.

Exactly. It would completely change the build. The ESRAM is their to boost the DDR3. If it's GDDR5 then they wouldn't need that ESRAM.
edit:to my understanding.

Also, the Twitter handle "@Vustadumas" redirects to the account of a Blizzard Cinematic Animator.

so he is right basically. I think the initial rumors of Microsoft leaning too heavily towards Kinect in every box were overblown. Looking forward to the actual reveal now.

edit: he is also based in California and so is Blizzard XD

Does Blizzard even have Xbox 3 devkits? Not so sure about that, because Diablo III was only announced for PS3 and PS4. I don't think they have a very good relationship with Microsoft at the moment.

Yup, that memory architecture just wouldn't make sense. Best of luck, Vustadumas. I actually hope you are right due to 8GB GDDR5 lowest baseline for 3rd party games. Would be best for the consumers in the end.

Yeah, googling the handle makes a bunch of Blizzard stuff pop up too. The internet is scary, maybe i should start using different handles.

yea pretty sure they are working on Diablo 3 for 360 according to some European retailer.

Diablo was never hinted at being exclusive

It was never confirmed as an exclusive. It may be timed but it'll probably hit Xbox platforms.

This is what I think. It would be great for everyone but would cost MS a ton of money. They may need to totally rework their OS and previous development for games because of the change in latency timings. PS4 has always had a lot of things to mitigate the latency issues but MS hasn't, they've focused in mitigating their bandwidth issues. It would be an enormous change that would have to be rushed or would delay the console.

Please stop this Diablo III exclusivity talk. It will definitely come to both PS4 & 720 because Blizzard likes that dolla dolla bill ya'll. So yes, Blizzard has 720 dev kits.

If he is an animator or artist he probably doesn't even have access to a dev kit. Probably does all of his work on a PC.

Except the LinkedIn profile I found states that he's been with Blizzard for a long time.

Even if he doesn't directly work with a devkit, he'd very easily know the specs.

I didn't said it was 100% exclusive, just that it was only announced for PS at the moment.

And he did work at Starcraft in the past, which is a PC title. Of course that doesn't mean he did not work at other Blizzard titles, but could be a hint.

You think Mark Rein & Cevat Yerli held Don Mattrick hostage to make the jump to GDDR5?

But based in his statement they mustn't change anything because always has GDDR5...

Oh man, how has this thread gone back to GDDR5 shenanigans? I thought we were in the clear.

Microsoft used GDDR3 as its unified memory in the 360. There is no doubt in my mind that they considered GDDR5 as well for the next box. If the rumors are true, they decided that they would rather take a different approach for whatever reason. As long as the games look great, I'm happy and couldn't care less about the specifics of what's under the hood. It's fun to geek out about when we don't have any specifics about the games yet, but when I go to sit down and play, I don't give two shits about what's under the hood.

'On paper' everyone thought the PS3 would wipe the floor with 360... in reality the PS3 has only gained a consistent parity for multiplat releases in the last year to 18 months.
This has been already debated over and over again and has been proven to be wrong.

That'a a very long winded way of saying at this point we should wait to see how things look 'onscreen' - MS have seen Sony's reveal and demos and will pitch their own accordingly.

The real acid test is going to be on the 21st, followed by responses from the showfloor at E3.
I dont think the 21st is going to be the acid test, if anything like you said MS has had the chance to see both competitor's (main) approaches and will have planned theirs to counter and leapfrog them. Even then I dont fully expect MS to show everything on the 21st, so we'll have to wait till the E3 to get a full picture. That whole period will be the acid test with both MS & Sony trying to outdo each other.

The minutiae of each console's memory system will largely become both obvious and irrelevant.
Bold and very wrong (premature) statement to make.

Account bets are awesome.
Oh shit. Good luck Vustadumas.

Someone leak something please, even if its just a tap

It's building up so much... it's going to explode. Can MS make it to the 21st without a big leak bursting out? You know some are digging deep to leak something significant as we type. Just a little over 10 days to go.

But what's under the hood can effect the games you're playing in a negative way. Especially multiplats.

When asked, by Goeff Keighley, at the PS4 reveal if Diablo 3 would also be coming to Microsoft's new console, their response was basically "(pause) This is Sony's night so that's all we're going to talk about".

Diablo 3 is not going to be exclusive. Whether that adds credibility here or not... We'll see.

This is Activision we're talking about--the king of spreading around multiplats.

Being a PlayStation family exclusive shouldn't even be a question. If Sony had made a deal with Activision, they would have flaunted it.

he is working for a big developer, so he must know his stuff. I am with #team gddr5 XD

Remember the Vita. The thing was so secret in some studios (for example MK devs) that even some of the staff didn't know Mortal Kombat was being done for the system. And even then the system was very much leaked.

Now with the next Xbox. Do you think everyone in the studio has knowledge on the new system?

Do you think they would share it as freely as this guy? Even if he's speaking truth he's probably going to lose his job because of violation of a NDA. After Orth, do you really think a dev is gonna come out and say stuff like this?

I felt the same before the PS4 event, the waiting is becoming stagnant here. We need a solid source willing to give info

Some devs like to see the world burn.

A pic of PS4's controller leaked. Wonder if any hardware for the next Xbox does.

Obviously the hardware choices will affect multi-plats. Let's wait until we see some games before we start thinking about which has the better approach.

Oh, I'm waiting...as patiently as possible...but I have my fears from the rumors.

Interesting developement regarding the memory set up. If they ever had DDR3 et eSRAM combination at any point in time and shifted to a unified solution with GDDR5, they must've done this a year ago, just after the console summit in London.
If we take this change for granted, we are legimitately pushed to question the GPU choice. Having such a large pool of fast memory only to feed a moderately powerful GPU would be illogical.
Hum...
