Gave in a saw Star Wars with a friend last night. Mehhhhdiocre tbh. I enjoyed all the practical effects and props more than anything.

so is everyone else back to work and reality tomorrow?

Always takes me a few second to remember that most people get all sorts of time off around the end/beginning of the year. It's just been a regular busy few weeks for me.

Thank you for the kind words and for the explanation! It was a great insight, although I learnt a bit of how US and UK educational systems work, I have this doubt stuck in my head for a long time and, every time I checked a dictionary, it only gave me a headache.

I might conclude, after reading it, that thesis is one of those "false friends" given that the direct translation, "tesis", refers to those post-graduate studies or investigations in Spain rather than just a final project of a degree. Really interesting.

By the way, do you, Amerrrrricans :p, have an official dictionary? Similar to our RAE: http://www.rae.es/ where you can find not only word meanings, but also grammatical rules, uses and such.
As far as I know, an official dictionary and/or guide for American English does not exist. As a result, there are lots of grammar blogs and sources online that discuss American English grammar and word usage to help people with the confusing parts and provide suggestions.

For unofficial sources, the most prestigious dictionaries I can think of are the Oxford American English Dictionary and Merriam-Webster English Dictionary.

Regarding grammar, I think the closest things I can think of are style guides; for example, The Chicago Manual of Style (general English and citations), the AP Stylebook (an English guide for journalism), and the MLA Style Manual (a formatting guide for research work). These are guides that essentially give you rules for how to format your writing and in some cases explain how certain rules of grammar should be followed. Although many of these guides are highly respected and considered authorities in various fields, none of them are nationally sponsored, and as a result, there is no "correct" guide or national authority. This is especially true when it comes to how to format papers, as different styles have been adopted by different disciplines and conflict with each other (for example, MLA, Chicago, and APA citation styles are all different). As a result, I don't think there's any definitive source for American English grammar and language rules like there is for Spanish (or French, from what I know).
All great suggestions. My former boss would add Elements of Style by E. B. White and William Strunk, Jr. and I'd like to add Writer's Digest Grammar Desk Reference by Gary Lutz, which includes a convenient tabbed form factor for easy lookup. Also includes a section devoted to commonly misused words and phrases.

[edit] It's also true what kirby said concerning style formats like capitalization and titles, adjectival-noun compound hyphenation, etc. I'm assuming in those instances that unless whomever you're writing for has a specific guideline, you'll likely not have to worry about them.

so is everyone else back to work and reality tomorrow?
Tomorrow? I've ready been working since the the 26th :)

So, this is kind of a weird thought but today I realized that it's now been 9 years since my family moved to the US. Holy shit... I was 9 when we moved :") time flies by lol. I still like it here more after all this time since I basically grew up and made my actual friends here in the US.

waiT. your noT americaN??

Noice, the US is pretty awesome
I like it ^_^ I mean it has it's share of problems but what country doesn't tbh.
waiT. your noT americaN??
Well... I was born here in the US, then I lived in Mexico for 9 years, and then we moved here permanently.

Keep in mind I live in a border town and Mexico is literally like 10 minutes away from here and stuff. I guess that makes me Mexican-American? idk? I just call myself Mexican/Hispanic/Latino.

Happy New Year guys! Wasn't sure if anyone would be interested, but I put together my best of 2015 music list. Thought maybe some people might find some new music through it. It really was a great year for some stand out albums and pop influence.

Grimes on the list. Bless. But Miley is higher? Has Miley Cyrus hit jackpot with some producers? Gonna give her a listen, but can't really compute.

And yes totally interested, I've been out of the pop loop a while and didn't even know Peaches and Hot Chip had new stuff. So I'm getting into new/old stuff.

And belated Happy New Year everyone!

Yahhh, when they entered the bar and all the aliens sat around - that was the best moment of the movie. I'm a sap so I enjoyed the throwbacks and thought Finn was an energetic dude, so that was fun! And this..

Dead Petz struck a chord with me more than anything else this year. Bieber was quite a surprise success. And Rebel Heart, well, it was quite a few bops and is the first Madonna album I've enjoyed in a long time. Some of the production is great.

This is good, though I'd add Marina And The Diamonds, Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey to the list.

I didn't listen to the Marina or Lana Del Rey releases this year, and Kendrick was just alright. Didn't do much for me.

Miley Cryus teamed up with The Flaming Lips, who are one of my favorite bands ever, and put out some really great, experimental pop. It actually reminds me a lot of their Yoshimi album in tone. Sure, it's silly and really out there, but it's something that no other pop star would do. I saw her tour for the record and it was amazing. An experience I won't ever forget. She has a lot of talent and gets far too much shit from people who don't give her or a chance, or are just generic rock music lovers, like the guys that tend to go into the Miley threads here on GAF.

The Peaches album is pretty good. It's really dirty and a modern throwback to Teaches of Peaches. I think she mentioned that this is the type of sound she wanted her debut to sound like, she just didn't have the technical expertise or money to do it back then.

So this probably isn't the right place to post this and I'm gonna spoiler it because it might bother someone in some way, but I don't know what else to do and I need to get it off of my chest.

I had a sexual encounter with someone a little over a month ago, while we were both very drunk (about equally so), that I would not otherwise have consented to had I been sober. I didn't black out, I was cognizant, and I did consent - I don't believe I was taken advantage of, exactly - and yet it was an unpleasant experience during and after and thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach, like I wanna throw up. I've been able to hide it to greater or lesser degrees since then but it's made me kind of... emotionally unstable lately. If I weren't as robotic about it I'd probably be crying right now. I know I'm probably taking this harder than I should, which only makes me feel worse about it. It's certainly not a position I'd ever imagined myself being in, given that I'm normally very choosy about who I have sex with.

I should probably get professional counseling for this, I realize, but that has more implications for someone in my line of work than I'm super comfortable with. Anyway, I didn't know what else to do, and semi-anonymous internet confession seemed like as good an idea as any. Sigh.

Do you have a close friend or confidant you can talk to? They might be able to help, or they might urge you to talk to someone, which might also be helpful. The only problem with online interactions is they can be so tenuous. I will say that how you feel about the situation is how you should respond (or your feelings about what happened are basically intrinsically right), but you might need more than just a vague vote of confidence.

I dunno wtf is happening to me. On 3 separate occasions, I've struck up chats with guys on OKCupid. They message frequently, and I reciprocate. We learn about each other's hobbies and interests and set up a meeting time. Then mid convo I get a message saying their account is deleted.

I dunno if I'm being spammed, catfished or just blocked by guys who get bored. I always try to not to bombard dudes with messages and only respond and keep the convo going if they initiate.

This last guy delete his account literally mid convo. Am I just being messed with? Is OK Cupid freaking out? We set up a time and place to meet up tomorrow. I'm half tempted to show up like a sucker just in case.

Has this happened to anyone else? Multiple times with guys?

i have an interview at chipotle and it's on tuesday (tomorrow) and i literally just checked right now holy shit

i mean it's not a guarantee at all lol but still.. I got pretty excited :")
also,it turns out that my parents were just giving me shit about a job for no reason and didn't actually expect me to apply anywhere. I told them I applied at a bunch of places and they were like "what the fuck why?" I was like "Well... it's too late to turn back now lol" My mom reluctantly said that yes, I should go to the interview.

Congrats and good luck tomorrow man! But...why would they NOT want you to go to an interview?

As for coming back to reality, honestly I'm glad the rest of the world goes back to a working schedule tomorrow. I got a used car a couple days ago to replace one I totaled a few months back, and getting insurance and registration done during the holidays has been a major pain. It should all be done later today though, thankfully. Meanwhile I worked both Christmas and New Years, so yeah, get on my level, rest of the country! :p

I guess it's because it's in the city, not the town. It's a 40 min drive and I never drive around those parts but honestly I'm going to have to work sooner or later and that's where most jobs are, plus I'm already going to have to drive there 4 times a week for school so.

Had to bury a dog yesterday. I'm pissed about it because the dog was clearly not taken care of. I had just seen the dog for the first time the night prior and she wouldn't get up or anything. She just looked at me with eyes that said that she'd accepted her fate. Told my family that she shouldn't be tied to a chain all day long outside to a tree and that she was dying. She'd clearly been there for a long time because there was no grass and lots of her own shit neaby. She looked unkempt, and they had fed her chicken bones. It was cold and miserable, and they refused to let the dog in the house or anything. In the morning, she was dead.

I should have never come home to visit. What a waste of vacation time. I can't wait to depart Wednesday morning. I hadn't visited my folks in a decade, and I've been reminded why.

Sorry for the negativity, just had to vent a bit.

I'm sorry about that. That seems like a terrible experience and made me quite sad this morning. :( Was this your family's dog or was this a random dog that they partially cared for after seeing (you mentioned feeding)?

Was the family dog. Don't understand why they bothered if they were just going to keep her outside on a chain all the time.

Ah. :( I can't say I understand either.

I hope your trip to your family has had some positive aspects, too.

Appreciate the sentiment. Honestly though, it's been a wasted trip. Had important friends I should have visited instead.

Ah well. In a few more days, I'll be in Korea. 2016 is going to be a crazy year! Got a lot of traveling planned for the summer. Need to visit Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Australia while I'm in the Pacific area.

I just started listening to the new Carly Rea Jepsen, and I'm really like it.
Also it is my last day of winter break today, really not looking forward to going back to school. I don't have another break till spring break which is a while from now.

I live by a river that has a bike trail. Its a nice getaway.
My old apartment used to have a bike trail that ran parallel to a river
(and the freeway)
. I used to run it every other day. Moving closer to downtown also meant missing out on easy-access places to go. I'm jealous :)

I live right by the Rideau River/Canal (longest ice rink in the world in the wintertime) and it makes for great walks/bike rides!

Ah, so that's what you look like. Cutie! :D

Thanks! :)
