Linkin Park blows but at least they're better than Rush.

Bizarre comparison. Rush has been around for 30 years and has, arguably, three of the best muscians to ever play their respective instruments. I'd also say they produced one of the greatest albums of all time (Moving Pictures).

quick! someone determine the link to the song!

It's embedded in the flash... You have about, hrmm, zero chance of finding out. And Sparkart probably has the flash file run through XML, and the song is loaded into the flash through XML. Yeah. Zero chance.

the video was awesome. made me like the song more...and its growing on me. still not as strong a lead single as i would have hoped.

Please don't try and defend this band as anything but a guilty pleasure. While you chose four fairly different songs, they all expose considerable weaknesses of the band. Repetition, teenage angst lyrics, and most of all, predictability. The band has had no surprises.

If anything, its very easy to recognize that Hybrid Theory (while not GOOD IMO), is certifiably better then Meteora. The production is a lot less cluttered, it has a geniunely solid DJ Shadow immitation (A Cure For the Itch), and 'With You' has a nice industrial pre-chorus tension/release feel despite sounding like the rest of the stuff.

However, songs that have the opportunity to be interesting 'By Myself' fall victim to the 'intro-quiet-loud-quiet-loud-climax scream' we're all expecting. The rest blend together into inspired-sounding, yet ultimately dull and unrewarding music. Its a 1.5/10 record and don't even get me started on the utterly depressing recording that Meteora is (the intro called 'Foreword' is EXACTLY THE SAME to the intro of NIN's 'Downward Spiral' wtf???)

What is depressing is how shitty nu-metal is that Linkin Park rests in the upper-echelon of the genre. If I was rating on that scale, in comparison to its shitty peers, it would be a 7.5/10 record

You can take this as 'hate' but its really an urging of LP fans to seek out the truly wonderful music that is readily available out there.

I dont know, i think Cure for the itch is one of the best songs i have ever heard. I am a massive dj shadow and james lavelle (unkle) fan and this song is up there with their best. Mr Hahn doesnt get enough credit, though he does himself a disservice being tied to a teen band.

I thought I said I liked 'Cure For the Itch'? But yeah, he is certainly the best part of LP as some of his other stuff is genuinely interesting. Thats really the only way I see for LP to expand their sound in a positive direction.

:lol I wasnt going off at you ! :)

PS: The version on Re-animation is just as cool imo.

It's fun going back and reading replies from all the people with no reading comprehension &/or no testosterone. Nobody cares if you people don't like LP, this isn't about your taste, get over yourselves.

LP is great music to workout to, plus Chester is ridiculously talented, unfortunately the rest of the band is quite subpar, esp the tag along for the ride DJ's, but somehow they all play great together and form a pretty damn good sound.

Cough *wtf* Cough

Surely you dont think Mr Hahn is a tag along DJ ?

There`s a video of me and my friends doing Nookie at karaoke. It was a ****ing riot.

I consider Linkin Park a 'guilty pleasure'. They do have some songs that are very catchy IMO.

That being said, this new single is really bland. I expected more considering how long it's been.

Music quality is not quite as subjective as you may think. Preference is, but quality, nay. Take some musical theory classes or understand ART in general. There are fundamental principles that guide quality music and like any artform, tons of little things can f*ck all of it. If you think Radiohead is boring you're clearly uninformed. You can dislike them as a matter of taste, but to call them boring is flat-out stupid.

Trust me when I say the pretentious music elistists are only like this because we too, at one point, were uninformed and are frustrated that many fantastic artists are held back by an industry that favors conservative repetition of genre/song structure/thematic content. Well, hope you have a musical epiphany.

Let me guess, you think Tool is the best thing since sliced bread?

How does this put revenge on the haters? Does this suddenly mean they've stopped sucking massive ass?

Sales =/= quality. All this proves is that there are 100,000 confirmed morons in the world.

How does this shut up haters? It reminds me of the stupid arguments some rappers make, along the lines of "well I sold 3mil so I'm better than this guy because he sold 1mil" (see: Young Jeezy).

Of course the song is a hit. It sounds like their other stuff, and despite it being a rather bland song that's wha the youth is into today.

While I like Tool, you'd be surprised about how many 'serious music lovers' (because what's serious, really?) find Tool fairly average. Next to that, both the band and the fans are often seen as a bunch of elite know-it-all-pretenders.

And the last album wasn't as good as any previous work ;)

But I like em.

And Deftones owns them all. So does Reznor.

omfg the video for the new single is incredibly embarrassing and it really helps capture just how bland the new single is.

And yes PD, Tool is pretty average IMO, they've been making half-interesting, but somehow similar albums for about 14 years now. They certainly peaked with Aenima (which itself isn't really great as an album, but Eulogy, 46+2 and a few others stand out from of the bullshit drunkard satan missteps).

I'm not a hater, but I'm rarely captivated by their music.

So Deftones=good, Tool=bad? Wow

I'm not a huge Deftones fan, I made this handle YEARS ago when White Pony was sort of interesting and I was on the tail-end of my nu-metal angst years. I just kept it because its easy to remember, etc. Its either that or my XBL handle of 'I Push Fat Kids'

And average = average, not bad.

I like tool, but the tool army of stupid sheep-like fans who memorize all the stupid shit maynard sprouts is so ****ing annoying. Like the stuff with 46&2 where maynard said some shit about a faux philosopher/physician and some silly-billy theory about muscle memory and humans merely being part of a greater grid like muscle tissue... I've heard this "life philosophy" from so many 'diehard' tool fans I want to ****ing puke.

the same with NiN fans, they are slightly edged out by the tool army, but they are really just one step away from the emo MCR "I hate all that isn't black and self-loathing" crowd.

Dats right, imma hater.

Nice one Junior.

Another really good LP song from Hybrid Theory is "With You". I <3 it.

Few clips mixed together to form the second track on the album.

Pretty badass and holy shit, a Linkin Park song where you actually hear BASS!?

Definitely has a different feel than their past stuff. Little more aggressive, the drums and everything just sound more raw.

Apparently btw, Mike only raps on 2 tracks on the album and sings one entire song by himself.

Track listing:

1. "Wake" - 1:40
2. "Given Up" - 3:10
3. "Leave Out All The Rest" - 3:18
4. "Bleed It Out" - 2:54
5. "Shadow of the Day" - 4:50
6. "What I've Done" - 3:25
7. "Hands Held High" - 3:53
8. "No More Sorrow" - 3:38
9. "Valentine's Day" - 3:15
10. "In Between" - 3:14
11. "In Pieces" - 3:37
12. "The Little Things Give You Away" - 6:23

Their longest album so far. (Thankfully, Meteora was way too short.)

So now they've gone from generic nu-metal to generic emo? That sounds like any random Good Charlotte/New Found Glory/whatever song of the past few years.

Oooh, but he says the "f" word, though.

Sorry to be so cynical...I was ok with "What I've Done" but this track just sucks ass. I hope the rest of the album turns out ok.

Honestly, I don't mind music arguments. It's the internet, it will never change in that way.

If someone wants to say something sucks, that's fine. I could care less if someone likes Linkin Park or not. What really GRINDS MY GEARS! is people who pretend their OPINION is fact on the matter. And for some reason, more than movies, video games, comics, or television, this really gets hit home with music. More than any other subject, music brings out the most elite of the elitists. I'm not sure why.

yeah, it's kinda obnoxious. i listen to a huge variety of artists, but i always have time for supposed 'simpler' or 'guilty pleasure' stuff. nothing like a good catchy song to balance out all the other pretentious shit i listen to :p

Uh..

No. No, it doesn't. Not even remotely.

What the hell New Found Glory songs have you been listening to exactly? I'd LOVE to hear them. :P

I just found out that my brother's girlfriend's mother is going out with the father of one of the members of Linkin Park. Amazing!!

Yes. For a while I used to be a music snob and it was just tiresome. I like some pop rock songs too dammit :P

EDIT: lol why does gaf keep on putting my posts before everyone else's?

oh i go further than that and sometimes plumb the depths of pop trash :p i can't really stomach the overly poppy sweet stuff though for too long! i used to recoil in horror at that sort of stuff on the radio , but god dammit if jamelia comes on the radio you better believe im shakin it :p

the whole 'this band is objectively good' thing bothers me - i have every radiohead album, for example (to reference a band mentioned in this thread), but if i'm in the wrong mood it comes off as dour, moany rubbish and i wish someone would give thom yorke a ****ing lollipop or something to cheer him up. the latest one that is used as a similar example is the Arcade Fire, which in my opinion is absolutely horrendous. but eh. there's a time and a place for any music and if someone enjoys it, that's all that matters.

It's not about being top 40/not being top 40. Music, like film, has definitive qualities that help seperate crap/non-crap. That doesn't mean there aren't differing opinions, but generally, there are ways to make distinctions of quality. Oh and yes, besides a few great tracks, the most recent Radiohead album was putrid IMO.

that was my favourite radiohead album! except for a few tracks, particularly the horrific 'scatterbrain'.

i think what i meant was, people enjoy stuff for different reasons - sometimes to challenge themselves, other times just cos it has an awesome beat or something. stating the obvious, but basically just cos something is suposedly 'crap' doesn't mean its unlistenable. most of the time a catchy guitar line or something will keep my attention. what can i say, im easily amused :P i don't know what i'm arguing anymore!
