Mario Kart World |OT| See that mountain? You can drive to it.

Update: I changed my mind after seeing this video, goddamn this game is meant to be played in HDR, WTF? This looks like a gen or more behind without HDR no kidding, the lighting is just flat and bland and the textures details get completely lost in SDR, damn, now I'm a believer...

The game looks bad and as some of you have already said, boring. Open world with nothing to do or look at, which punishes the actual gameplay because it forces wider and less inspired tracks.

My God this game looks fantastic with HDR. Definitely a generational leap.

Can't wait to drive on the ocean at night in the rain.

Looks like a generational leap even compared to the same game in SDR lol.

Not kidding, I wasn't interested on it at all because It looked ugly (not just "not enough of a leap" but literally ugly) to me and I can't stand a game if I don't dive its art style, now I'm hyped but won't buy it until next month lol

A new Zelda with HDR will blow some minds probably.

Played for a few hours now. Game looks really good but honestly it kind of sucks. MK8 had this issue for me sometimes where specifically with 200CC races - it felt pure RNG because of the items and the never ending middle cluster shitshow because of the speed.

Now naturally, Mario Kart World is always like that because of the number of players in a race. At 100CC....

This game is the Nintendo epitome of "Any retard can win and no ones a winner". Thanks Nintendo.

Still decent fun, but if MK8 online wasn't irrelevant enough this is even worse. Not putting as much stock into online as I thought I would. Definitely just another dumbed down party game to play with friends.

I didn't look really at any pre-release news and stuff too much, but will say also the Free Roam and Track Transitions that were mentioned are nowhere near as cool as I imagined.

Most underwhelming Nintendo launch title in history and definitely doesn't warrant the price increase.

Some cool things since I've mostly been shitting on it however - is the grinding is fun, and when you do a circuit, the "Good AI" is usually the character you end up unlocking. So there's that. The new Warios' Galleon is really nice too.

Haven't played it myself yet but this sentiment makes me wonder. Did you just want MK8 again or what? It's always to some extent been an RNG party mess, how many hundreds of times in other MK games haven't you been first all race just to be absolutely ganked 20 meters from the goal line ending up like next to last. It's not a hardcore racer, it's a party game.

Take my word back on the Free Roam. Gave it a longer chance and it's actually pretty decent. I think it would be a lot better however if there was a way to actually see what's available to do / track stuff. Unless I'm missing it?

Also I have map off usually, but the minimap is actually pretty sweet looking at it in Free Roam

Finished all the cups. Not bad. Some good new tracks, but at this stage I feel like the circuit designs and music in 8 Deluxe were better. I need to spend more time with it.

Just watched a youtuber stream the entire game, it took 4 and a half hours to complete

It doesn't even have extra CC modes after you finish the championship, which is a really weird decision

3 issues I have are

A. the drift and trick button are the same so it's annoying to drift when you want to trick on the challenges.

2. everything just rewards stickers

D. some challenges are bullshit trial and error of knowing whether to trick jump or not.

Some of these reviews/impressions don't really surprise me. The novelty of an "open world" Mario Kart free roam mode seems like would wear off pretty fast.

Mario Kart is all about the races and the action in the races.

Haven't played yet but I'm hearing more negativity than I expected.

Mario Kart is an easy lay up. I thought it was a great call to make it a launch title because everyone just loves it.

Guess I'll see for myself after work tomorrow.

Do you see other racers online in the open world? Like horizon or do you only see them when joining a race or event

So the washed out look is gone when playing in HDR? I had a feeling that was it. Still, SDR still shouldn't be so much worse. Friend of mine will visit me this month with his Switch 2 and we'll check it out on my Sony A95K.

I thought it was a great idea, but seems like it didn't work out so well in practice.

Well maybe MKW2 will be better.

Open world racers always raise a red flag for me. I just prefer course design in closed circuit racers.

That's pretty disappointing. Especially given that development started years ago on the switch.

I think Nintendo was hoping that the "open world" mode would be a sufficient replacement but opinions are mixed on that as well. Nintendo should have just taken an integrated open world approach ala Forza Horizon, instead of stringing together half-assed modes and charging $80 for them.

This game feels like it's missing some kind of big feature but it isn't?

It's like they had no idea how to reinvent themselves.

And sometimes you just shouldn't. Less is more.

From my perspective, MK8 didn't truly shine until the first two waves of DLC on the Wii-U which really elevated the ho-hum experience of the base game. Nintendo has been really good about supporting their titles with free and paid DLC and I'd be surprised if we didn't see both in World. Some combination of free open world activities and paid courses, characters, karts/parts. On the flip side, their DLC hasn't always been a home run as most of the additional tracks for MK8 Switch really didn't stand out.

Given the base price it's a tough sell for me. Like pay $100+ for the complete version of a game?

Are the reviews embargo are for at noon for MK World ? I heard a lot of negative around it, it scare me a bit. managed to snatch a switch 2...

That's a fair perspective. I'm not trying to sell anyone on the game as I haven't even played it, but game pricing and post launch support is just the reality we live in. The bundled cost of $50 will make it an easier pill to swallow if it is underwhelming and there are a bunch of alternatives to fall back on (F-Zero GX via NSO, Ridge Racer via Arcade Archives, and Fast Fusion for something modern). I'm excited to try out Mario Kart, but like I said earlier, open world racers have never impressed me as much as closed circuit racers. I'm honestly more excited about F-Zero GX. And for a more out there take, the new Kirby's Air Ride is more interesting in that I never thought we'd see sequel after the tepid response to the original and Sakurai is at the helm which again is a little surprising that he broke free of Smash (for now). I just hope that game is given enough development time and space away from MK. I'm personally hoping for 2027.

Goddamn the 24 player online experience is as chaotic as ever holy shit i already raged on the first race. On the positive side of things, online seems super smooth so far. Matchmaking works well and im not feeling any lag. I already finished the grand prix and now just playing online. Nintendo is out of their mind charging 90 euro for this tho. Game is fun, but its really similar to mk8 and i dont think there is enough content here to justify this insane price. They better release post launch content for free

I see a big difference, specially in textures details like they are lost in all SDR videos but not on this one

Been playing for a bit. It's going to take some time to get used to this I feel.

I definitely understand why a lot of footage have people not using the boost jump, it's pretty tricky to get the timing right imo. Hopefully there are a lot of missions/challenges for training purposes.

I've been trying to wall-ride on the busses and get jumps on the cars but tend to fail more often than not, or jump over them instead of on them.

Shame i got the bundled box with mario kart.
Oh well i guess i will play some fantasy life i
A little of cybahpunk and streetfighter 6

Don't believe these idiots at IGN, free roam is great, it's designed for you to develop your tech and master the more skillful bits of Mario Kart, someone said 100cc is a clusterfuck that anyone can win, that's just a skill issue genuinely.

This game is GOATED.
